S8TY reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in Yankee Doodle Derby
To be perfectly honest. I don't care about hearing about a takeover. After the last 2, I'd rather just know about it when it's done.
The takeover isn't bothering me.
What's bothering me is that the man that owns us has ran us into the ground.
The man that owns us was a man that grew up on the terraces of the Baseball Ground like we all did, a fan, a supporter, been there through the good and through the bad, a man who supposedly wants the best for the club, a man who would sell us for £1 if it was to the right person.
Takeover or not, how this man has allowed us to be one week and 6 days from a season starting without us being able to put a team out is quite frankly disgusting. How can he be letting this happen?
They would have known that they would have to resubmit their accounts long before the verdict was announced (or at the very worse know that it was highly likely that it was going to happen) How they haven't been submitted already is beyond a joke. Mel knows exactly what we need to do to get out of this embargo and he hasn't done it.
Takeover or not, we should not be in this position, even in the dark times we have had, we have always had a team.
How can we be going into a season a week on Saturday without a centre half in the squad is disgusting.
Stephen Pearce is despicable, he's bare faced lied on Radio Derby and 3 weeks ago he did an interview with the BBC saying "We have a core of senior players and extremely talented academy players that is enough to operate with and we have a plan for the rest of the window, we are not rushing to fill the squad"
We have one centre forward and no centre halves but according to Pearce we have enough to operate with.
Also we haven't heard a single thing from the club since then and no positive actions have been done to get us out of this embargo.
How Pearce and Morris have treated the fans is nothing short of disgraceful. They don't care about us.
This is the worst state the club has been in my lifetime and the blame lies at one man's door.
Cannot wait till he's out if this club and never comes back. The bloke is poison.
Always remember when things are going well he was everywhere.

Agree totally re clough etc
always made laugh during and after their time the amount of stick Simon clough got … “he’s only there cos he’s Nigels brother” turns out he knew what a good player looked like without it costing us the world

Angie I’m certainly not criticising Mr Morris for having good intentions but I ran my own business for many years and what I did was make sure my taxes were paid because if you get on the wrong side of HMRC you are in trouble
He knows as a businessman himself that if you can’t afford to pay the HMRC then something is quite wrong in how the whole operation is being run
you can only stick your head in the sand for so long ...if he sold some players and said it was a necessity to balance the books we might not like it but that’s how you have to operate
As I said when Nigel Clough was here we ran a tight ship but still managed to bring in good players using shrewdness in the market and not overspending and yet still produced one of the best sides I’ve seen in years albeit with Macs tactical and coaching influence using Cloughs recruits
it wasn’t broken at that stage and just needed a bit of help eg Thorne on. A permanent which he helped achieve but to be honest from then on we have obviously spiralled out of control spending too much and who,s fault is that?
The model was good before Mel took over but we lost our way especially in the recruitment areas spending obviously beyond our means because now we can’t even pay our taxes!

When Morris as a business man took hold of DCFC he would’ve been fully aware of the pitfalls
The debts especially to the HMRC I don’t think are forgivable because that’s just pure poor management from the top
so ok he wants whatever he wants but oh I’ve not been paying the HMRC either so whoever buys it can you please make sure you have a bit aside for them! I mean cmon Angie there is no excuse for not paying them or accruing debt especially to them
do not forget we sold a few players over his term as well Ince Bogle Hendrick Hughes etc …yet we owe money to the HMRC …it’s been run poorly and even think we were better off when Clough was here at least the frugal way in which the club was run didn’t put the club at risk and still meant we were competitive

The answer to your question is I’d like him to maybe look at it yes…the debts are down to himself …he’s been running the club and we trusted Mel to run the club properly and it’s in a mess so maybe yes because i don’t see any benefit to him long term whatsoever keeping the club as it is losing even more money month after month so yes maybe make it more of an attractive purchase somehow even if that means losing a bit more to help the sale or do you think he’s entitled to what he wants?
I have never seen how buying a football club is a good investment because you will always lose money and not just small amounts but DCFC in the second tier of the English pyramid with a great fan base academy and ground and training facilities etc must be as good as an investment as any IF the price is right …
let’s not forget these debts are down to the people who run the club
-
S8TY got a reaction from Rammy03 in At what point ….
My real concern is I think Mels asking too much for the club
We are never going to turn the corner out of this mess unless we are taken over and although it’s easy for us to say I’d like Mel to sell for a pound or a small sum to someone who’ll take this on
From what I’m reading and I might be wrong of course but he’s trying to get back some of his losses and don’t think that’s gonna happen in today’s climate we will never get out of this mess unless we have new owners .

£200m is an oft quoted figure for Mels investment in the club. Is there any actual basis of fact that he has actually spent anything like that? Especially given the debts to MSD, HMRC, etc.

I don't think that's the question, it's not what we'd like it's what's an attractive proposition for a buyer to come in and take the club off Morris' hands.
And the answer at the moment is that it's not an attractive proposition hence why Morris has been struggling to flog us for so long now.
And the longer Morris sticks his head in the sand then the longer this current situation will suppurate and we'll be playing in League 1 and even less of an attractive proposition to a would be buyer and we get caught in this endless spiral.

We couldn't afford to sack Cocu, he agreed to defer some of the payment and we still haven't paid him all of it. If we still haven't paid Cocu then we definitely can't afford to sack another manager earning as much as Rooney is.

Excellent post this totally spot on
if we are relying on Stretton and CKR to get us enough goals I cannot see us being anything other than relegation material …put a couple of dangerous goalscorers in there and we’d start to look a lot better
my worry is I don’t see any change in our play since Rooney took over and if it wasn’t Wayne Rooney he’d have been out by now and before anyone mentions we can’t afford to sack him we did with Cocu albeit he hasn’t been fully paid off which is credit to him
I think Wayne’s captaincy speech shocked me how un inspiring he comes across when speaking I’m not sure he’s right for us especially at this time …we need someone who knows this division so Alex Neill would be my choice ( begrudgingly ) I dont particurlarly like him but if you think about it he knows how to get out of this division and how to operate on a budget this isn’t Wayne’s job I’m afraid

S8TY reacted to Day in v Salford City - Pre Season Friendly
Today was HOT, I was melting, literally melting. The game? Yeah, weather was nice.
Already hints of a toxic atmosphere, some strong words coming out the stadium. Some will never learn.
Was decent atmosphere though before they scored, got to be said, the goal changed it massively.
Not a great situation I know, but still, pre season is pre season.
The stadium? Looks great, but the facilities were crap, toilets were in a HGV container, they had 2 kiosks, 2 people to serve in each, one food only and cash only, the other alcohol only and card and they were slow, like Pride Park is rapid compared to them.
Got to be honest, I felt a little uncomfortable with Covid and that, only saw the odd mask and as the game started people piled in around us to the point we couldn’t move.
The sun blasting at us I went out to watch the game from the corner just outside with the beer to get a bit of space.
Would have preferred to go in the seating area but there you go.
Anyhow, got some pics, @DarkFruitsRam7 legged it to the toilets as soon as we arrived as expected.
