Best squad in the league on paper. One of, if not the biggest budget. Best training facilities. Best stadium.

Yet this is the football we’re producing week in week out. Time to go Mr Warne.

Please, just please walk away. It is so obviously not working. PW is not the right man for this club. He speaks well enough, but his style of football is not something I can relate to. I get that we may not be blessed with the best players, but surely we should be seeing better footie than this. No fun, no excitement. Nothing. I don’t mind losing if we are at least trying to play some progressive stuff. But losing while playing neanderthal nonsense really gets me going. It’s just depressing.

The best time to sack Warne was weeks ago. The second best time is today.

Shrewsbury a top side at this level with a top manager. Let’s hope we can grab a point and that would be a cracking result

A managers job is much more than just picking 11 players. The armchair managers don't just want to see names on a teamsheet they want to see those players sent out there with a clear plan on how their abilities are going to be utilised to create a functioning / winning team.
We regularly see a barely functioning team that sometimes manages to be a winning team, but when it doesn't end up winning the lack of cohesion/function sticks out like a sore thumb.
And it's not out of the manager's hands until half time at all. There are tactical tweaks you can make as a manager without needing to make subs and/or wait until half.
If people see other managers making those tweaks to counter our play but our manager failing to make the same sort of tweaks, they're going to point it out.

I think we'll be better once we've had an International break and the lads can spend some quality time together on the training ground.

    Time for a reality check...
We CAN pay fees, but our manager has so far opted to not pay anything upfront - Washington, Fornah and Wilson will all cost us if we get promoted and/or sell them for a fee ourselves.
Our wage bill is definitely top 6, highly likely top 3, and possibly even top of the whole list. Our top 5 earners will be earning more than Cheltenham's entire squad!

We can pay fees and we can offer better contracts to players than other clubs.
    We can't do both.
Very few clubs at this level can. We made a choice to pay higher wages for fewer players. It's paid off with Nelson and Nymbe and Fornah, it hasn't paid off with Bradley and Elder
We also employed a manager (after paying compensation) who's insight into the league should provide us with an advantage over teams who may be able to pay more than us. That's what good managers do.
On the overall balance, Warne is NOT a good manager, he's a very limited manage with one speciality - getting teams promoted from League One. He doesn't currently look capable of providing that
We're currently making every excuse in the book to defend that manager and treating him as if he's got the hardest job in football as an excuse for his underperformance, and making out that him meeting the minimum requirements of the job he was brought in to do somehow proves that people who are unhappy with him are wrong to be so.

My issue currently is I’m not sure we’re any further forward than we were a year ago first team wise.

Didn’t expect much last season but our squad should’ve been top six. Especially after where we were in feb.
This season looks a week division, really think we should be top two. But doesn’t look likely currently. Maybe sneak into the top six

I saw no reason, after the recruitment done by Rosenior/Rooney, for the 1st team recovery not to be immediate.
The Academy 2 or more years.
The finances not until Championship achieved at least.

I’ve never heard of a modern day manager say I wanted to give up the middle of the pitch to have more play out wide. I can see why we have no control in matches if that’s his tactics.

You have to think that if Steele on RD is giving Warne a hard time, then others with good football knowledge will also be doing the same (whether out loud or internally).

Sorry, but the fact that the commentary in here is mostly negative is not because everyone collectively decided to be negative, it's because what we are seeing on the pitch is rubbish and it's being called out as such.
I was really hopeful that the Blackpool game was a turning point, but here we are again.

Warne has been here a year. In management terms that is very much not 'new' and that is not something that can seriously be used in his defense in my opinion.

Well Paul Warne's post-match interview opened a few eyes, and cause a few more to roll heavenwards, no doubt! The first surprise was that a Radio Derby interviewer aske some awkward questions - I didn't think that was allowed! Well done, that man! Also, that Paul Warne was worried that Cheltenham had "overloaded" the midfield, so he chose to avoid it - memories of Monty Python's "Run Away! Run Away" spring to mind. This is against the bottom team, in League 1 who have virtually no performance to speak of all season. They are supposed to be worried about us, not the other way round. So we decide to favour long balls into the channels, and loads of crosses into the box, against a team full of big, tall men. We did show some promise in the first 45, but chiefly when we played the ball on the deck. But overall it was a team packed with gorillas who played the football.
The second half started much, much better, largely because of young Mr Bird, who clearly doesn't listen to team talks, because he had no idea at all that were supposed to be by-passing the midfield! And suddenly the team was buzzing because the ball was being played where God designed football to be played. It's all there in Hezekiah chapter 4 verses 2 - 10, and chapter 6 verse 7. And so it went for about 10 minutes or so, until the Cheltenham boss decided to make 3 substitutions, further flooding, or "overloading" the midfield, and snuffing out Bird's influence. Were you watching, Paul Warne - they saw what had happened, and made some changes to counter what we had done. OR is it too much to ask for Warne to change it up again during the same match, let alone ju8st the once in the season so far? We actually did nothing much, until the substitutions later on. But they changed nothing, because we got Washington coming on to o what was already not working, and we got Hourihane, who played like Hourihane tends to.
The real issue, as I mentioned earlier, and in other threads, is that were are playing the Number 10 role with someone who isn't a Number 10, so we are weak in the key area of trying to unlock the defence, either with a great through ball, as Max Bird showed, or someone who can run at the defence and force them into an error, or break right through them and have a go at goal. Nuff said on that. As for Collin's chance in the dying moment - he had more room to the keeper's left, as he was expecting the camera shot into the top corner. Collins should have "Bladdered it" (how about that for a Graham Richards-ism?!) low to the keeper's right. Oh well.
We also heard from Warne that we didn't do enough in the first half, an admission he has made before now. Curiously I was of the opinion that the players were played to perform for the full 90 minute plus, not the 30, 40 or 45 they tend to dish up when the mood takes them. Unless they are disillusioned because they know what they are capable of, but are restricted by the pattern (I use that term loosely) that is being imposed on them.
I know some people were expecting a cricket score, and in many ways it should have been, but in reality a 1 - 0 or 2 - 0 would have been sufficient, because this lot were beatable. All it needed was for us to play to our strengths, with a proper number 10, and keep the ball on the deck. Oh well. Onwards and same old, same old.
