I suspect if there is a problem it’ll be down to the “permanent” vrs “ loan” pot issue (includes fees and wages).  We’ve been told that the permanent pot is empty (hence the CBT loan deal).  Gayle is a free agent therefore technically he is a permanent signing albeit probably a short term deal.  Hopefully the Max Bird deal gives us some leeway but I wouldn’t put it past the EFL to be awkward!

It would really be classed more of a loan deal as such due to the fact that we not paying a fee for him. That's what was meant in permanent v loan debate that they couldn't outlay large sum of money  to sign players

  2. Bird is one of them players who really annoy me at times. We all know what he is capable of but, more often then not doesn't produce. Knight was mentioned earlier and his problem was that he didn't have a designated position.  Bird is similar in a way where he is being played out of position.  His performance yesterday was one of his best recently due to the fact that he had Adams behind him. When he is asked along with hourihane to do more of the defensive work it doesn't come naturally therefore allowing players to find space or simply running past him.

When it was announced he was leaving and then being loaned back, I didn't want him back. He has shown what a good professional he is with his performance yesterday.

    Lead us to promotion Max.

  3. Change of formation is fine when we have the players to suit, which we had to today. Bradley played well, Ward did OK, Sibley and then Elder Good. Big difference is Adams. Sort of player that also fits the system allowing Bird to play his preferred role. Hourihane for me is now the weak link, purely because of speed and mobility. Shame because he is an important player.

We can change formation and go Nyambe in back 4. Great options now throughout the squad. Light up top yet but, players on the way back.

Encouraging weekend after what we thought was a poor window.

Still can't really understand how come Clowes gets in new 'reputable' Academy staff, but chased after Warne as first team manager.

Whilst I really didn't want to watch two seasons in league 1, we were meant to be rebuilding. And whatever some people think he's not making the most of our older Academy players either.

Be glad when the window is shut.

With the current situation at the club it should have been a natural reaction to blood some youngsters. Not given any a chance to show what they can do in the first team apart from Brown's 5 minutes here and there. They would get more patience from the crowd if given this chance.

We know that the current set up with Bird and Hourihane in midfield isnt really working but, if one was dropped and replaced by robinson who is more of a combative midfieder then it would appear that warne is addressing the situation.

Older journeymen with injury records aint the answer.

  5. From the very first kick off from hourihane to Cashin, he then lumps the ball forwards towards the sideline the tone was set for the match. This is not good enough when you have our forwards strength in the air. Poor tactics.

Bird and Hourihane just are not strong enough in midfield. Their positioning is too high up the pitch not to help out with the defence and far eniugh back not tk influence things going forward. Hourihane has clearly been told to get the ball forward quickly, which quite frankly makes him look foolish. He has to sit out the next few games and get some legs in the middle. Bird did far better when the changes were made as did the team. Lucky to get away with 3 points today.

  6. Had stuck up for Collins for large periods knowing his previous goal scoring exploits but, gave up on him 2 months ago. The fact that the other strikers were unavailable has played a part because he knew he would be starting. Never questioned his work rate, aggression from the front or overall effort regarding the team but he was missing good chances in tight games. The fact that Derby are creating more and playing better football with more control allows Collins to settle more into games and not snatch at every goal opportunity. He has proved many people wrong and hope he continues to do so. Well done James.

  7. Just a quick question. How many of the chances we scored from last night would Collins have scored if he had started?

    1st maybe

    2nd no way

    3rd no

    4th should be

Washington offers so much more up front with the same amount of work rate but better control and linking up than Collins. Not here to bash Collins because I have stuck up for him in the past but, them early goals killed that game last night. Collins is a sub for us at best.

Great overall performance from Derby last night and a nice shape and balance. Same team next week please Warne.

  8. Overall a good performance from the majority in a Derby shirt. Standouts were Cashin, nyambe, bird, fornah, smith and Collins. Took a while to settle but then it settled to frantic style of football from both teams. Wilson should have scored 2 and them near misses usually cost us the game. The addition of fornah as improved midfield immensely with bird coming back in to add more mobility tonight and  looked good. Nyambe can defend so far and is ok going forward. Small victories and small steps. Get home from sorted and we can challenge this year. Well done Derby.

  9. Had reservations about waggy returning but has so far proved myself and majority wrong. Different player it seems in this league. Said he has matured as a player since he left. Maybe so.

Had reservations about tommo in the past but he has come into the team and added real energy into that midfield. Looks like a real player.

Actually liked Rooney in the past because he does so many things well. He was put on toast today( but recovered ) and has been unlucky in the past on and off the pitch. A couple of protein shakes and extra sessions in the gym will do him the world of good.

Nelson good today and everyone else steady.

Elder yet to win me over in the cameo roles he has had.

    Good day all round

  10. Local lad from my town. Only a matter of time before he got linked with us due to Warne signing him for a low fee and him being slightly different type of striker. Knee injury has put a stop to that now surely.

The immigration rules between UK and Eire are unaffected by Brexit, so I'm not sure that's the case.

Maybe it is for underage players. Friends son (16) has joined the wolves academy. Only declaring that he had an English grandparent did he get the go ahead to stay there full time.

It doesn't take a genius to realise most of these players aren't Mark Thomas's suggestions. His 'specialty' we'll call it is low league and Irish league 'gems'. Small fees with a huge sell on potential. Premier league academy off casts also. I think he will come good but so far people are a bit peeved off

Seems more red tape than usual for young  Irish players to cross over due to brexit. Maybe the reason why none have been linked given the time scale of his employment start date.

To clear up confusion, I’m referring to Mark Thomas. He wasn’t prepared for this summer and that’s why the recruitment is Warnes buddies/ players he knew.

If this is the case it's an awful scenario. We could regret this for seasons to come.

  14. The way Warne is saying we need more pace throughout the team is true. The way Warne sets the team up demands pace and energy. With the current players that system is going to fail and fail dramatically. It's ok to change to suit the players you have at your disposal. He refuses to do that. He has bought in ageing players at the back to play set piece football but they are no good at set pieces. Cashin for all his good play last season only scored one goal. The other two alongside him don't look like scoring either. We are far too open with no cover and it is glaringly obvious. Warne has to shut up shop. I hated watching Rosie's team last year because it was so laboured but, by Christ I would take that over anything shown this year. Last night we couldn't string five passes together. It's horrible to watch as a fan and as a football match. Mindset has to change from the manager.
