Watched on Rams Player and I think we were good value for the win.  A few thoughts -
First & foremost.  We have to do whatever we can to keep Max Bird.  Coventry can gladly have Sibley, Leeds can take Knight, but we have to hold onto Bird.  Him, Hourihane, and Smith/Thompson can boss it for us this season.  He’s matured so much the past 18 months. Captain for me once Davis hangs up his boots.
McGoldrick looks like a fitter, faster CKR.  I can see why United fans praise him so much.
Hourihane, Chester & Roberts look very astute signings.
Wildsmith is going to take years off my life, playing out from the back.
Cashin & Thompson look like they’re hungry to kick on from last season.
NML showed more flashes of what he’s going to offer.

Overall, everyone put in a good shift, in what was difficult conditions.
    Can’t wait for Oxford

As it turned out, Mel made a complete and utter b***s up of running the club.
He spent way too much, badly managed the finances and ultimately jeopardized the very existence of the club.
Nevertheless, I do not see why people even now think that was his intention.
He was trying to get Derby into the Premier League against a backdrop of unfair competition - and we all agree with him on that: parachute payments, the EFL, the structure of the TV money, badly thought out FFP rules.
He just made a total hash of it - by going too far, by inconsistent choice of managers, paying over the odds for players etc.
But, as is usually the case in woeful situations, that's because of incompetence not conspiracy.

I'm interested to know who kept Mendez-Laing out of Weds' side last season.  He looks like he's gonna be a proper handful if he stays fit.  After 10 minutes you could tell he'll give us an actual cutting edge to attacks.  So refreshing to see a winger have a proper go at their marker instead of checking back and waiting for an overlap from the right back.  Also nice to see our midfielders putting balls in behind fullbacks instead of into feet, so the wingers have to go from a standing start.
Only got to see the first half but bar the odd sloppy pass we looking pretty sharp.

i agree completely but lets not get carried away. There would have been a reason he was left out, but clean slate for the guy but will have a lot more to prove than just a friendly match against bradford to know he will be a consistent threat in this league.

At the moment we could field the following against Oxford -
    -----------------------Wildsmith
    Byrne----------Chester---------Cashin--------Forsyth
    ----------------Thompson------Bird
    ---------------------Hourihane
    Mendez-Laing--------------------------------Barkhuizen
    ---------------------McGoldrick
That's a good side for the Championship, never mind Lg 1

My bad, thought he's resigned already.  I think Bielik & Knight will be gone on a loan & permanent respectively which is why I left them out.

Hopefully this is why Rosinior turned Blackpool down.  To parachute someone completely alien to the club while it's in such a mess will be suicide for our chances of a decent season.  Best chance we've got is with a bit on continuity with signings, contracts etc.
TBF to Wayne, I thought he'd walk at the end of last season.  Not the end of the world but I would've liked to have seen him give it til at least the end of this season.
Maybe we'll see if Liam was the real brains of the operation after all..

I agree. I really want to like City, cos they have a lot of England players playing for them. Liverpool have comparatively few. But I just prefer the style and passion of Liverpool. City seems far too sterile. Even their colour looks like surgical scrubs.

I'll throw this out there and wait for the football hipsters among us (especially @Bris Vegas) to come at me but, I find Cit-eh really boring to watch.  It's all to clinical, all to precise, it's like watching a metronome.  Give me Klopp's style any day as there's always a element of chaos, that it can all go completely tits up at any second.

This is why there needs to be a statutory basis for the regulator to regulate within.
I know I bang on about financial services as it's been my career, but football could learn.
The primary legislation forces the regulator to formally consult on any rule changes. It also sets out the process by which this must be done in order to avoid gaming of the system.
The efl aren't behaving at all like an industry regulatory authority, more like a golf club committee deciding who should be blackballed purely by reference to personal gripes and vendettas.
    Sack them all.

I think pretty much every player will need to take a cut considering League 1 has a salary cap.  I think we’ll need to plan without the likes of those above conserve wages they must be on.  It will give us some wiggle room…
