mike93rh reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in EFL appeal
Erik Alonso will not be taking over this football club.

Given that our prospective new owner has been spouting off at journalists on twitter before he's even taken control, it doesn't fill me with confidence that this will be something he does.

You are absolutely right, @EdinRam - it is a shambles. It has been a shambles behind the scenes for a number of years, and that has played out fully on the pitch this season.
It's one of the main reasons why I, and many others on here, are hoping for a fresh start come the start of the next season.

I have tried getting over my points very similar to yours but you articulate a lot better than I do. The club is an absolute shambles and we will have to pay the piper eventually.

Have to agree with @EllafellaI'm afraid. Whilst I agree that it's all been a rather sorry tale of woe this last few years, no so-called Senior Sports Reporter should be using terms like 'basket-case' to describe us. It lacks class and professionalism and it something I'd expect from the Star, not a supposedly respected broadsheet.

Completely depends on your definition of what a "basket case" club is, @Ellafella?
I think a club that has cycled through as many managers as we have under Mel, been involved in so many controversies that we see the Corner Flag Tweet more than we see wins, numerous financial issues such as payers not being paid on time and transfer embargo(s), battles with the EFL over and over again (and still going!), drink driving dramas, captains being sacked, games called off for "snow", nearly selling the club to one, two, three different shady buyers...how many reasons do you need?
If I'm honest, calling us a basket case club is probably going pretty lightly.

We are a basket case club though?
There's plenty of evidence for it.
Strange little club, in the words of Pat Murphy a few years back.

mike93rh reacted to SillyBilly in Roos
Why? Roos is a perfectly good goalkeeper at League One level.

mike93rh reacted to Gaspode in Roos
The problem with Roos is that his general play doesn’t give the defence any confidence - he’ll do something great and then follow it up with a howler. Good defences have a relatively consistent keeper - Roos terrifies me and seems to have the same effect on his team mates….

How much have Roos's mistakes cost us in recent seasons. He's always been a bad keeper, I don't understand why people think he's good on here.

mike93rh reacted to Comrade 86 in Louie Sibley
So why not just have a word with him in private, given he has unfettered access? Why not qualify his comment by making it clear that it's not just SIbley under-performing. Why not give Sibley the run of games the likes of Waghon have been afforded to see if with games he does 'do better'? It's the inconsistency and lack of loyalty that has annoyed people.
Given Wazza is meant to have gleaned some lessons from his time under Ferguson, you'd think he'd have learned that you defend your players as individuals to the hilt in public and if they need the hairdryer treatment, it's done in private. Publicly shaming your players, even when you're 100% correct, is the fastest way to lose a dressing room and frankly, it just smacks of desperation.

No. I think we should play them because they're better than the alternatives.
Buchanan is already better than Forsyth in every aspect of play already.
Bird the only player we have that can play as a sole DM.
Sibley is one of the few players we have who can score from nothing. He's one of those players who instantly draws the opposition towards him, opening up space for others.
-
mike93rh reacted to Ghost of Clough in Louie Sibley
The problem is it's not just Sibley.
It was only a few weeks ago Rooney backed Buchanan to play for England one day. He's now found himself dropped from the first team.
Last year, Rooney was quoted as saying "Bird will be pushing for an England place in a year". Under Rooney, he's only retained a starting spot on 3 occasions.

mike93rh reacted to TomG in Louie Sibley
I feel a bit sorry for Louie, he gets 10 minutes(if he's lucky)towards the end of a game which we're usually chasing, usually out of position and he gets criticised by Rooney, saying 'he needs to do more'. Well personally, I would aim any criticism at Waghorn and Joswiak, they certainly 'need to do more'!

Really don’t get why he singled out Sibs. He looked really bright. And a massive tryer. How on earth Waggy and Joz get ahead of him is unreal. Their end product is horrendous. Got to start with Sibley and Watson in the next game. He can’t possibly stick with the same 11 when we haven’t scored in the last 4

Not for the first time, I'm with @angieram on this one.
I've supported Derby for over 40 frustrating years, sometimes up, mostly down, and recently I've found myself pondering on what it actually means to support the club. After all, there is almost no link between the Derby of the late '70s and that of today - not the players, manager, owners; not even the ground. Perhaps the kit, if you squint in a low light...
I think it was Rowett's preposterous sale of Will Hughes that really crystallised it for me - it's through the development of the club's young players that I most identify with the club. I really enjoy watching young football players develop; like the vicarious thrill of hearing fans of other teams talk about "that young Derby player" they've seen; even more so when, like Buchanan this season, they show it on a bigger stage.
That's why, after yesterday's disappointment, I found myself looking at other results - Will Hughes at Watford, obviously, but also Jack Stretton at Stockport, Farrend Rawson (& Nigel Clough) at Mansfield, Charles Vernam at Bradford, wondering where JH-I is at Stevenage.... These players (and manager) are always "Derby" to me.
And so, after Rooney's ill-advised public comments about Louie Sibley yesterday, I no longer care whether Rooney goes or stays. For me, Derby County isn't about Wayne Rooney, it's about Louie Sibley, Max Bird, Lee Buchanan and the others. Keep going, boys.

Sibley can't get a game, he only gets 10 minutes. What is he meant to do. Waghorn is continuously poor yet starts most games and never gets criticised.

The biggest fear for me is that back in February when Alonso's interest was first reported it was said he was working with Matt Southall, the a*se who asset-stripped Charlton and left them without a paddle.
Southall isn't being mentioned currently but I'd be surprised if he wasn't involved still, which is my biggest concern. If you associate with these sorts of people it's hardly a reassuring thing.
