mike93rh reacted to Chester40 in Wayne Rooney press conference
Did you watch his press conference?
I usually agree with you and have been pretty anti-Rooney until 7 days ago. But this gets top points for trolling and has put me in the invidious position of liking @MuespachRamposts!
Rooney can have lots of things levelled against him but if that press conference was the result of PR advice and he was posturing to the camera then I would be astounded. His PR team would surely have said 'be statesmanlike and rise above it' anyway.
You could feel his change of tone when Mel was discussed. He obviously feels incredibly angry that he is now steering the ship but wasn't been given the common courtesy of the facts. He clearly has had staff coming to him and asking about their livelihoods and he has been in the dark. Some fans were speculating it was all a plan that Mel had made Rooney part of, but obviously that wasn't the case. Staggers me Mel has basically left him front and centre without giving him the heads up.
Nothing about paying for equipment and leading the team through an almost impossible situation seemed contrived to me. He made a comment about the players finding his 5min talk being more useful and heartfelt than Mel's 45mins, I don't see him pushing that idea as something that promotes him as a football manager, it's a personal thing that shows him as a decent bloke only.  It's also easily checked by asking the players. Clearly that comment was made to him by several players.
As an aside, Mel's leadership has finished now.  No avoiding the conclusion it's been a shockingly bad period in retrospect. Like a drunk in Vegas constantly chasing his losses it's now come to its logical outcome. What remains to be seen is whether he wakes up with a banging head and realises he can show responsibility and good faith by slowly nursing the situation to its best possible conclusion (I still believe he will) or whether he is more akin to a Maxwell Mk 2 and having bleed his company dry he walks away from the situation with no self awareness or contrition.

He's adopted us as his own
He's adopted us as his oooooown
    Wayne Rooney...
...he's not 'really' of our own but he's not ducked off in the face of severe adversity and he's slagged off the bloke we all currently very justifiably dislike more than anyone else in the whole world and as he's doing a great job this season that means any valid criticism of him last season was obviously completely wrong and even if he did possibly undermine our previous manager and seriously underperform as a player none of that matters now and if you bring it up you must hate Rooney and be a fully fledged member of the Mel Morris fan club because there's no such thing as the middle ground between agreeing with certain decisions which have been made by Mel made and backing him 100% in everything he does and I could probably go on but can't remember exactly what I've already written or would write if I was thinking clearly and hadn't drank a number of beers..
    ...he's one of our own.

Wayne Rooney is a credit to this Club.
I was pretty anti-Rooney, up until probably the middle of this summer. I couldn't understand why, with our problems, he still wanted to be here. And I was annoyed that without our problems, Mel probably would have pulled the trigger long before the crunch-match against Sheffield Wednesday.
However, as more and more has come out about what has been happening behind the scenes, the better Rooney is coming out of this. People will point to his win-record and say X amount of wins in X amount of games, but right now I don't think that matters. He has completely the right attitude, personality and resolve that we need the manager of this Club to have right now.
There is no guarantee any other manager with a proven track record would get anything more out of this team, and the players clearly want to fight for him. It's ironic that this might be one of the most united squads and coaching team we've had during Mel's tenure, given everything going on around it.
Whatever happens, Rooney should always be held in high regard by Derby County, he's a credit to himself and everybody else involved.

Wayne has set the team a challenge to make history by staying up. Evidently no team in our position has done this before but it is just about possible.
The hairs stood up on the back of neck when he said that he was willing to fight for this club and talked about how he felt for the players and all the Pride Park staff and how broken hearted he would be to see any of them lose their job. He has been helping out financially purchasing equipment that is needed in training but  I think he was very reluctant to dwell on the subject and embarrassed it had been mentioned.
I just can't get my head round the fact that MM hasn't spoken to him since 9th. August - not even a phone call. He was asked if he was upset not to receive an apology from MM but he said mm didn't need to apologise to him but said that he thought his behaviour was 'disrespectful, if I'm honest' and that he was 'a little bit disappointed'. Talk about restraint!

I came to post this but figured I'd check if someone beat me to it!
People obviously want to be hopeful but I think managing expectations will be better for us as a fan base. We don't want attendances to start dwindling when we still need them months down the line, because a buyer hasn't been found yet and people had their hopes up it would be done before January...
Having spoken to pals of mine from Wigan and Bolton they said there was the exact same feeling given to them from their respective admins. Both clubs have been through a hell of a lot of pain since.
Mel has made such a mess of Derby County as a business I personally reckon we'll still be looking for new buyers come September 2022.

'Mel wasn't sincere, wasn't heartfelt enough, wasn't honest' - Wayne's comments about MM's meeting with him this week.
It seems MM spoke to them all for 45 minutes, but WR says we need to 'put him behind us....'

I wasn’t overall happy when Rooney took over and last season didn’t do much to change my mind.

Fast forward to today and I can’t think of anyone I’d rather have. The way he is conducting himself throughout all this is commendable. You can hear in his voice that he cares for the club, players and fans and he has the desire to stick it out.

Well done Wayne keep at it, we need you more than you need us. ??

Just a note of caution, as part of their brief is as salemen to try to say "we've got a great bargain investment here at Derby County" you've got to expect, at this point at least, that they're going to be all full of hope, strong future, lots of interest.
If they'd come right out and said "this going to be very difficult, we are going to have to see what we can do to return some value to creditors" it'd be game over.

Let's wait and see who the 4 prospective buyers are before dancing in the streets.
If the list is Peter Gadsby, Mrs Morris, Fawaz, Reanimated Corpse of Robert Maxwell then it's still not great.

mike93rh got a reaction from Crewton in Players asked to defer wages
If deferring allows the administrators to pay our staff's wages, giving them an extra month to look for work outside of Derby County then I hope the players will do it - even though I agree they shouldn't have to from a moral perspective.
If the players agree to it and the staff still don't get paid this month then sod it, I'd be demanding my pay as a player or buggering off. They'd just be pushing the problem of paying wages further down the line which is not a 'sustainable' approach.

mike93rh reacted to Duracell in Players asked to defer wages
There wisdom here is often "they can afford to, why don't they?" with this kind of thing. It's hard to reconcile with the fact that over half the squad earns in a fortnight what the average person takes him in a year with the fact that they may not want - or even be able - to defer their wages for long.
This argument assumes that all footballers live within their means, are not supporting a substantial network of wider family at home or abroad, and don't have a mortgage which takes a significant part of their salary. Our players would have made their financial decisions based on their wages for the length of their contract.
That's not to say we should feel sorry for them, or to say their situation is anywhere near as sticky as others. Just to highlight the fact that even a measure like this is wrapped up with human complications.

Gone from a promise to bankroll the club as necessary, to administration, to not paying the players. We are going to break Lutons 30 point deduction record a this rate.
I dont hold much respect for a tabloid article but I've been wrong on Mel so much I don't know what to think.

mike93rh reacted to Ambitious in Players asked to defer wages
    I don’t like it.
The players should be free to say no, without punishment. Some players can afford a deferral more than others.
If a life long Derby County fan with 100s of millions in the bank can’t be arsed to sacrifice for the club then why should the players?
I’m a Derby fan and I would be saying get me my money or allow me to walk. There is absolutely no certainty this deferral will ever be paid. Are we not just delaying the obvious?
