Sharp_Ram got a reaction from Crewton in Premier League | 2024/25
It's interesting that when Derby had the same attitude as Chelsea, Villa, Newcastle and Forest, we were the bad guys bending rules going against establishment. Amortisation(Chelsea), supposedly creating false values of players etc. Football especially the prem is becoming an ugly place to be

Massive Leeds, the facts.
In the nine seasons they were in the championship, before Covid.
Average attendance 26,277.
Three seasons in League One.
Average attendance 25,001.
Roughly 10,000 empty seats every week.
Derby nine seasons in the championship roughly the same period.
Average attendance 27,268.
Two seasons in League one.
Average attendance 27,349.
Derby consistently massive.

He’s been round the ground, and was one of the three players Warne spoke to. He wants to be local and be close to family. It’s a strong possibility

No he hasn't. All his league goal contributions (6G, 5A) came in 12 game purple patch in the second half of the season. Reminiscent of Nick Blackman.
Osborne has consistent output championship level(266apps, 19G, 33a) and notched 61 prem appearances. Has a high work rate and is positionally versatile. Makes more sense for a smaller squad. Knows and lives in the area, won't take time to settle.

Seriously? An ex 11 million Cardiff flop whose had a purple patch on TV over a local lad with prem experience whose never dropped below champ level. S

Sharp_Ram reacted to Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
Brentford incrementally hoisted themselves from relative obscurity by recruiting players on a data based model of analysing player attributes, buying those that excel in footballing stats in relation to their playing positions and then selling them on when, surprise, surprise they repeated their statistical strengths at a higher level.
Whilst some may scoff at this data-based approach, they got far more right than wrong and they're now in the Premier League and have made a profit on players of well north of £100m.
Bigger Premier League teams can afford to buy "off the peg" and mostly need instant results. We need to learn some lessons from Brentford if we want to slowly work our way back to the promised land. Mel mostly messed up by cherry picking some of the best players from our rivals, then trying to crowbar them into our team, ignoring the fact that we played a different style from the team we bought them from.
We've a long way to go before we can dream of a similar renaissance, but be more Brentford. Player stats are by no means perfect, but can lead you to spend your money wisely, and hit the jackpot of resales on a fairly frequent basis.
The first stat we should concentrate on is players who regularly are able to play 40+ games a year consistently. At least you're not buying a " Maradonna for 5 games a season ".
Every penny will count this season. We're fairly lean now, with little debt. Not a time for risks.....

Impossible to say this early. No retained list yet. No transfers. Bare squad.

Sharp_Ram reacted to Srg in Retained List
You'd get 9 assists playing in a team which scores so many from corners when you take every single one of them. Stats are nothing without context.
Legs have gone, he was a liability. We improved immensely when Warne finally realised it.

- Ed Dawes is a high quality local radio commentator and critics are ignorant to the standard of local commentary around the country
- Graham Richards became a bumbling confused and inaccurate local radio commentator for the last few years of his commentary
- Derby fans have been generally spoilt/blessed over the last 40 years by the sheer quality of coverage provided by BBC Radio Derby
- Gary Teale was underrated and would easily be our star player right now
- "Legends" Bobby Davison and Igor Stimac couldn't wait to get away from Derby County and lacked loyalty

Mel Morris threw in the towel far too early and in a string of monumental bad business decisions - that was by far his worse.
He would’ve won the appeal against the amortisation charges, as there was nothing within the rules about the straight line concept and what he adopted was a tried and tested accounting method albeit not done in football (to that point). We wouldn’t have had the 21 point deduction and would’ve stayed up that season.
The academy infrastructure he put in place would’ve eventually paid him back more than he ever got and then some. We ended up losing an incredible amount of talent for pennies in the pound because of his decision to throw the towel. He just needed to bring someone in who could control the football operation - Cocu was ideal for bringing on players technically and the developmental angle should’ve been persisted with but like his decision to call in the administrators. I think that was also a very bad, early decision.
He then fell in love with the Hollywood aspect of bringing big names into the club and the circus that would follow. Lampard was a good hire for the club, but ultimately it changed the mindset and from that point he was on a path to ruin. While he was fundamentally bringing things along nicely in the background, he was his own worse enemy. If he had just focused more so on what was working in the academy and replicated it into the first team then he would’ve realised his vision of having a first team heavily subsidised by the academy and in doing so would’ve been able to bring more talent to the academy to continue the flow of progression as opportunity attracts talent.

Chris Martin was a selfish player, lazy, always diving, no work rate, slow as a cart horse and everything went through him. With a better striker we wouid have gone up.

If Sam Rush hadn't sacked Nigel we would be in the Premier League now and wouldn't have had to go through administration

This is one of those nonsense myths around Warne that some people just won’t drop. Just because the press or questionable football accounts on social media link us with a player doesn’t mean we’ll sign them. Last year we signed players from the following clubs;
Arsenal
Blackpool
Bristol City
Cardiff City
Charlton
Coventry
Hull
Luton
Notts Forest
Peterborough
Rotherham
Stoke
Sunderland
Wigan
The January window the season before we signed players from Norwich and Spurs. We’ve been told the club is looking at players across Europe, yet still some people want to peddle the myth that we only sign Rotherham cast offs 🙄

It cannot be underestimated how important this result was. Kept us in the champ with the points deducted the following season. Can't imagine having -21 starting in league 1.
