I came over to the UK and went to the match with a crowd of friends we sat in west upper where I still have a seat, on Sunday  I also caught up with friends who sit in the North Stand, I can tell y’all that if Warne continues as manager the ground will be virtually empty next season, to a man and woman we were disgusted at what we witnessed. None of us will be there tomorrow night and the lack of enthusiasm to turn up for another game was palpable. Apart from Waggy there was no effort from the team, and the tactics were at sub pub team level. Clowes must be getting severe buyers remorse about warne, and I predict as soon as crowds drop below 20 k he will be an ex manager.

    Crowds aren’t dropping below 20k!

I'm also quite interested, out of the many players he did bring in this summer, which ones epitomise the 'fast, pressing' game he apparently wants to play? Because it seems to me he brought in quite a lot of older, slower, not-especially-mobile players? And pretty much ignored our midfield (which was designed for passing, not pressing) until signing an unknown (Fornah) at the last minute? What about pressing from the front? Was Washington the magic forward who was going to unlock this bold new strategy? Or was it the 33-year-old Martyn Waghorn?

It's one thing saying we need more time to finish the job, but at the moment I can barely see what he's started.

Yeah it’s hard to see what the plan is, I was initially worried would be hoofball and smacking it up to big guys up top for second balls. It’s not that though.

Think is get it forward and wide pretty quickly, and cross it as soon as we can. But we don’t really have people to cross to. Our wingbacks are pretty slow so ended up crossing from pretty deep and easy to defend.

Washington looking very underwhelming so far, waghorn a pleasant surprise with how well has fitted it.

  3. Just a bang average game, really not sure what we hope to achieve. We don’t pass the ball but we also don’t seem to lump it forward either. Is all just about getting it forward quickly and running I think. Really forgettable and dull football. But still nearly won!

Big issue I have with warne is that I’m pretty sure 90% of managers could achieve this with the players we have.

I think part of the problem with discussions like this is that while I think WarneBall is absolutely both hoofball and also very defensive football, it isn’t what people normally mean by those terms.  We aren’t just lumping long balls up to a big target man, and we aren’t doing anything like sitting deep in 2 banks of 4 of trying to be hard to break down etc.  But we are very set on getting the ball forward and wide as quickly as we can, at the expense of having any kind of control of our own.  And we do seem very set on going out to stop the other team playing (by out running them, pressing them etc) at the expense of having a strategy to win the game of our own.  So both sides are kind of right, but it’s also basically an irrelevant argument over semantics.  The people saying we don’t like the hoofball are basically saying that we don’t like the minimal effort to actually establish some element of control in games, not that we don’t like the number of long balls we play (not wanting to put words into other peoples mouths etc).

Yeah, sort of what I meant by playing through midfield more. And like you say we’re not just banging balls up to a big man and playing for knockdowns.

i do sometimes wonder who we’re actually crossing the ball to? Have no real targets to aim at attacking wise.

  5. When we play a back four I don’t mind it. Certainly wouldn’t say is hoofball. Could definitely do with playing through midfield more though.

when we play five at the back it just all seems slow and laborious. And overly defensive without looking any safer at the back.

think the lack of pace probably makes us a bit worse to watch, warne had two windows to try and address that now though.

I thought te wierik was going to come in and be a dominant centre back, the leader of the defence and a strong figure in the team. We saw absolutely none of that. I thought Bradley would be the same but we haven't seen it yet. Still need to give him some time though.

Yeah, said yesterday than other than the sending off thought played quite well and was best had looked so far.

Obviously the sending off a big but, and not the first mistake. Don’t think is a total bust like some do. Might be another player that looks better in a four. Probably fourth choice centre back now though.

Today perhaps not, but they are second in the league for a reason and our season isn't going to hinge on away results at sides like Bolton

It isn’t it but it’s hard to watch games like today and be happy with it.
Not saying warne has to go now but can’t be many people left who’d miss him if he left? Am pretty sure most managers could get as much from this group of players as warne is.

  8. Pretty underwhelming today, think Bolton were ok but not a great side by any means.

We’re not good to watch at all are we. Really struggling to see why the wing back/five at the back idea is even considered at this point. We always look worse playing that. Seems to leave us really deep and no pace to break forward. we have very little movement either.

smith at right back might be an idea, is struggling in midfield. Fornah, hourihane and embleton might be a way forward.

Washington had little to work with but genuinely not sure he did a single positive thing today.

    not our best day.

I’m not sure he can properly kick the ball, same vein as Jozwiak. His one goal he has scored for us (cup match, can’t remember it was League Cup or EFL Trophy) but it was a shot down the middle with the gk dived away from.

However, the tenacity, skills and use of a small space are all excellent not to mention work rate.

I just fear not having enough players to offer goals.

Hit a good shot last week. Has really surprised me this season. He seems so much more positive in his play. First instinct is always forwards lately. Felt the opposite last season.

I personally feel that once the ball goes in the net it should be a straight booking for any goalkeeper that stops the opposition from retrieving the ball.

No messing, no mitigation, just keep out of the way or you're booked.

It does feel like a rule needs making for it, but technically once ball goes in is the defending teams ball to kick off. So maybe forwards should leave it?

Agree on the cheating though, he’s done it a few times now. Don’t really care if other teams do it, is cheating and don’t want to see it.

claiming it is great situational awareness is a right stretch as well, he’s just being a dick to try and slow then game down and get their player booked.

Neither Bradley or Elder have shown anything so far to warrant a place. Elder seems unable to cross the ball with his left foot. Bradley is the new Raul Albentosa shockingly slow and weak.

Yeah haven’t seen much of elder but just looks tentative and nervous. Hopefully grows into the role. Looks way behind fozzy currently though

Complicated in what way? You could certainly feel his frustration at our failure to recruit in the last couple of weeks.

He just seems to constantly be talking about how difficult it is to sign players. Has this phrase “through the door” which seems to get rolled out often and then doesn’t materialise.

weird interview, I enjoyed today mostly. Warne seemed to almost be looking for problems. Agree with him though that this isn’t a top three team. But it’s one he’s had for two windows and fifty games now. I understand is not as simple as that, restrictions etc.

    Totally agree.

Didn't completely agree with his assessment of the game either but tbh it was more his tone which I thought was rather odd.

Can't quite put my finger on it - but his overall mood seemed strangely out of context with the game and not in keeping with how the situation is in general. Just kinda weird.

Yeah, felt most of the fans seemed happy and a bit relieved to get a win. Played ok but not amazing.

he seemed to be negative on things, didn’t seem to want to credit the system change.

he also makes signing a player sound the most complicated process ever, every other club manages it! And a few jokes of sorts thrown in for no real reason.

  14. Thompson had another good game, happy to be proved wrong on this. Looks so much more positive than last year. Legs and energy really what we needed.

    rooney steady again

    mendez-laing so much better wide

    cashin much improved too

much happier today, think balance of side looked better. Looked like round pegs in round holes for a change.

dropped back too much later on, wonder how much of it was fitness related.

happy with the win, warnes interview was a bit odd though.

To be honest I think I would take Andy Carroll a bit of a handful at this level if he would take low wages

don't know if he's fit though

Yeah, would be someone to aim crosses at.

I agree, very well explained. Ed Dawes said pre Oxford , that we would enjoy games more if we thought back to how close we went to extinction. That’s true but you will never alter the opinion of Rams fans that “We are massive” , as do the fans of Leeds , Leicester etc etc

Yeah find Ed Dawes to be really annoying now.

Personally felt like the year before last summer was all the suffering, had no idea what was happening, if had a club etc. it was draining for all of us I think. once clowes had saved the club, it was nice to actually look forward and be optimistic again. Don’t think anyone had crazy expectations. And then watching the team, was pretty obvious we were one of the better sides in the league.

Not saying have forgotten where we were but I think it’s definitely time to leave it in the past where we can now. Let’s focus on getting a good side and getting out of this division.

100% that is what has happened.

I was one of a few that didn't expect top 6 at all last season, yet when Warne himself calls it a failure it's hard to disagree with him when that was the objective.

For me, I have given him a clean slate for this season, first real opportunity to bring his own players in, forget what happened last season and that puts me very much in the minority online at least. Not been a great start, yet it's early days.

Combine that failure with those that were unconvinced by his appointment at the very start, we now have a majority of discontent, again online at least.

Your online fans are in my opinion the more hardcore in that they listen and judge you on every word, there is no forgetting what was said following Cheltenham away last season, or in the RamsTV Xmas special, it's all documented online. Even our own opinions which come back to bite us on the arse.

I don’t think many of us expected top six, however expectations shift throughout the season. Think went 16 unbeaten in the league and looking very much up rather than down. Got to fourth and touching distance of teams above.

At that point we all expected play offs, think was almost a foregone conclusion to be honest. The form after thought was terrible. With no real sign of improving.reasons were given that people seemed to accept, small squad, aging, restrictions, lack of pace, lack of prep. We identified these but then seemed to not rectify them.

Move forward to this season, less competitive looking league, looser restrictions. Fans start to think of top six as a minimum. Four games in though and looking in a worse place than last season.

Personally think we’ll give him until ten games, see where we are and any signs of improvement. If there aren’t any I think clowes will make a change. Can talk about finances and a four year plan. Tuesday was awful, many more home games like that and becomes impossible to stay.

  18. Being realistic I’m not sure we can really be talking about this being possibly the worst derby side ever, then keep championing our younger players so much. Like cash and looked great for six months last year. Been pretty average even poor since feb time.
