I don't think we could afford any current Championship or League 1 manager.
- Lee Carsley (England U21) would probably be holding out for the main England job at this point. Even if he isn't chosen for that job, I doubt he would drop down to L1 level.
- Luke Williams (Notts County) for the long term project. Someone I could see taking us all the way to the PL.
- Gary Bowyer (unemployed, previously at Dundee) to build solid foundations and rebuild the link between the first team and academy
- Paul Cook (Chesterfield). A difference in opinion led to him being sacked at Ipswich, but he's done well everywhere else.
- Aaron Danks (Middlesbrough assistant manager) has been assistant for Kompany at Anderlecht, Dean Smith at Villa and now Carrick at Boro. Has also been involved with the England setup, having assisted Paul Simpson as they won the U20 World Cup in 2020, and then the U21s in 20/21. The riskiest option I've listed, but has a good contact list and I think is worth taking a risk on. Another I could see growing with the club as taking us to the PL.
You don't think we could afford any current league 1 manager. So the managers of Fleetwood, Cheltenham, Burton, Shrewsbury, Leyton Orient etc. Are you mad?

Nyambe was a defensive right back (back 4) who started to transition into a RCB (in a back 3/5).
Wilson has always been a RWB.
Ward was a RM (such as in a 442), well suited to RWB (in a back 3/5) who can be RB or RW in other systems.
Barkhuizen was a RM/RW, who had occasionally filled in at LW and CF.
Thanks for that. My point is that if we are now going to play a flat back 4, we have one right back(on a six month contract) and 3 or maybe 4 other players for a more attacking right side position

Personally I think PW needs to chose between Wilson and Nyambe and stick with it until 1 drops out. Tried to shoehorn Wilson in and ended up going 5 at the back which was extremely puzzling.
We are playing 4 at the back and we have 1 right back - Nyambe - and 3 right wingers, NML, Wilson and Ward. I think Barkhuisen prefers to play on the right as well. Bit of a mess isn't it

I can see where you’re coming from but I’m a bit old school when it comes to players returning from injuries.
If you’re fit to play 90 minutes you’re in the squad, if you’re not fit to play 90 minutes you’re not in the squad.
I’ve never been a big fan of this bring em on for 15 minutes at the end mullarkey. 👍🐏
In the old school you only had one sub so he had better be fit!

A shame yes
But we got max bird back soon but seems a bit waste of money that could been used for a striker.
Agreed. Or a left sided player with pace

When Bird or Hourihane is fit, yes.
If Embleton was fit, I'd have him at 10 away from home, to bring some control to games.
I think Warne would do that too
-
If we go to a 3 he can go in the middle and Nyambe on the right. I suspect that is in Warne’s mind

So Barkhuizen comes back from injury and we actually look like we can play football with him. What do you do Paul? Stick James Collins in instead. Of course
Not to mention putting Nyambe straight into the team following Wilson's star performance on Tuesday. Sibley, whilst starting which is good, will of course be wide left
-
Just results and performances. Same with any manager. When Brian Clough was sacked from Leeds he was interviewed on the telly. So what went wrong Brian? He just said 'results'
I'm much happier with the squad than I was before Fornah was signed. OK so TJJ might be injury prone so that one might not work out, but in him, Fornah, Embleton and now Nyambe we have the younger players added to the squad that will make it very competitive, particularly when we get some more injured players back. So Warne will have no excuses, he has the tools to do the job

Those people who suggesting teams without Washington in them need to give their heads a wobble. He’s one of Warnes main men

Why signed until Jan?
My guess is we have reached the limits of the budget and this is primarily to cover for injuries at the moment. However, having taken up an option to extend we can do so if anyone(like Cashin) leaves in January

Morris was going to go all out for him until Uncle ‘Arry rang
Bet he regrets that decision now. He'd probably be a couple of hundred million better off

Not sure we could pay compensation for a manager currently in a job….and can’t see Colin as a long-term option.
He doesn't have to be a long term option. His track record is there for all to see. He would get us sorted out and promoted and then established in the championship. He would so relish a last hurrah at Derby. He would galvanise the fans with his passion. We must go for this
-
-
He certainly looks on paper to be a reasonable, beggars can't be choosers option. Mainly a right back but can cover centre back and left back, 25 years old and 6' tall. However lets not forget he was released by Blackburn and then given only a 1 year contract by Wigan then released again so Paulo Maldini he aint
-
Sunderland fans rate him highly and they can be a hard to please lot. I'm not sure we could have expected him to come on and do much more. He will become a good player for us if he stays all season. I think he will go back in January though
-
He looks to have all the attributes and deserves a bit of patience from the fans

Maybe because he has achieved promotion in league 1 three times and on each occasion his team started the season slowly...perhaps the boss has placed an equal emphasis on both of these aims.
As I've said,I'm no fan of the football but clowes took him on to both steady and repair the club and achieve promotion in the medium term.
In his time at Rotherham he achieved both of those goals so you can see where the owner was coming from when he employed PW.
Unless we are looking at relegation he's going nowhere.
The fans will be going somewhere at that’s not to Pride Park or away matches. Just under 28K on Saturday including a sold out away section of more than 3K. Portsmouth is a plum fixture too, a proper club. I reckon we have already lost 2-3 K ‘floating’ supporters. Warne will get a stay of execution because we have a run of fixtures against minnow teams now so will probably get some results. Also players like Bird coming back. But it won’t last. It’s not improving and it looks very like the players don’t really want to play for him to me
