Can’t see Warne liking someone with attitude problems

He's 19 though. It's quite normal for lads to have attitude problems at that age. Can't write him off for that surely

There is but will be a hugely contested market. We will do well to snap up the top talent available and I’d imagine we would be fighting another 8-12 championship teams (plus potentially League One, SPL sides and maybe even Premier League sides who want to spend or not spend money in each respective case).

We might get a couple but would bet we lose more than we get - so much so I would consider other approaches to the market.

Cup with just the dregs in never mind half empty. You know the square root of FA anyway, have a little faith and let's wait and see

You’re right in that it’ll be Warne’s call. My stance on it is partly driven by sentiment as I think he’s better than some credit, but it’s also logical (to me anyway) to keep some continuity in the squad. Collins is seemingly a very good pro, played a high number of games, scored a high number of goals, trains well and plays hard. He’d continue setting the standards in the squad and would complement a couple of younger options as one of our forwards next season. Probably wouldn’t want him as the main choice, but would I want him coming on against tired defenders with 20 mins to go either looking for a winner or putting in a shift to defend a lead? Yeah I would. Would I want him sharing his experience of playing the striking role with a young and exciting talent like Dajaune Brown? Yeah I would.
Hypothetically what would your stance be if it was McGoldrick and not Collins we were discussing?

My stance would be the same as it was. Didzy was 36 or something and it was time to let him go. I'm not sure he's had that great a season at Notts has he? Anyway, OK in the terms you describe, Collins as a squad player with some younger, better first choice players(not Brown yet) then I don't disagree entirely. But it depends on budget

  4. Well fair enough old cheese but my opinion is he makes the absolute utmost of his ability by prodigious hard work. He's done a great job for us no doubt about it but we have to move on, there is no room for sentiment. I don't know how old you are but remember when Arthur Cox sold Bobby Davison? I was heartbroken at the time but Arthur didn't think he was good enough for the first division. Sentiment would have seen us keep Bobby - and he was a far better player than Collins by the way - but we needed to improve and we needed the money to help do that. We will see what Warne does next week

Agree with much of this. But I think Collins has proved his worth and deserves a contract and will contribute, albeit probably not spectacularly. Great if we can move any/all of those four under contract players "Elder, Bradley, Fornah, Washington" on, but it will be tough and that shows why it's important not to be too hasty when dishing out new contracts.

Yeah I wondered about Collins. But the hard work and honesty makes him an effective Div 3 player. But that's as far as it goes, he's very very ordinary technically you must agree. And he's 33. We need to move on. He will be on good wages, money that can be used for a younger player. Collins is known quantity and going downhill. Lets take a punt on some players who can improve

  6. We need to be releasing all of these mid 30's players who are out of contract and replacing them with better, younger ones. In terms of the people on short term deals, Waggy is finished --with us anyway Gayle was a short term gamble to try and give us something for the run in. he needs to be seen as such and let go. I know he has some quality but he's past it. We need younger players. John Jules was a gamble that didn't pay off. Only fools make the same mistake twice, let him go.  Just new contracts for Thompson, Sibley and Wildsmith. Try and move some of the poor signings on as well who are still under contract, Elder, Bradley, Fornah, Washington. None of them are good enough to be regular starters in the Championship

  7. Having been relegated twice from the Championship should at least have give Warne a good idea of what works and what doesn't in that league. He clearly knows how to get out of this league which was the number 1 priority, get us out and get us out quickly. That has meant that we have limited the haemorrhaging of money and our best young players, both from the first team squad and the academy to a minimum.

Warne's last attempt at the Championship was short lived but successful up to that point. So hopefully that's an indicator that lessons had perhaps been learned. He should certainly be better prepared for the tactics and standards required this time. When you listen to Warne its obvious that he's a bright guy, he's far more erudite than most football managers you listen to so it seems inconceivable to me that he can fail to understand the tactical nuances that his arm chair critics - myself included - accuse him of. Bright guys are better than most at learning too. So why did we hate the football so? I'm coming to the conclusion that Warne knew better than we did that the ugly, basic football the team played a lot of the time was the most effective at that level. He said - and I criticised him for it -  ''my job is not to entertain the fans, its to get results''. My criticism at the time was 'no Paul, your job is to do both'. Whilst I still think so, maybe I should concede that his view, as a professional, is that to do both may be possible but with this squad would be less certain to get promotion quickly which was the overriding priority.

So lets see how recruitment goes, this summer and next January. I think we will make a solid return to the Championship finishing comfortably mid table and then kick on the following season

Also depending on how many years you've built up, it could cost you more money over the next few seasons.

I think you would still get the continuity. You wouldn't have had a break in your season tickets. But yes Sage, I did say in the original post that it would cost you and you have to weigh that up. But it would be my advice if you want to get two together in the South stand. There are no easy solutions.

    why?

You can renew with the early bird, then swap as soon as they go on general sale

You can, but you have to go down the club or ring up etc. By which time people have nipped in online and snapped up the plum ones. You can't just swop online at 5 seconds past 10.00am. Or more likely 20 seconds before 10.00am.

  10. If you can hold your nerve and are prepared to stand the small extra cost(of losing your early bird discount etc), my advice would be to not renew. Then the second the seats go on general sale after all the renewal period has expired be ready to pounce online as a new customer. Like you do for away tickets. You might think that's a bit of a risk but I am certain you will get yourselves a pair of plum ones, anywhere in the ground, even in the South stand
