Ah, but that's revisionist. When we played them nobody was hailing then as "one to watch". They'd been close to the relegation spots last season and had signed a couple of players but nothing to suggest that they would be a force.
They rocked up at pride park and weren't brilliant - just average. We were so poor we lost, but I didn't hear anyone saying that they were top of the table material.

It does make me chuckle that some are forced into defending being negative when we have just drawn to what may be the worst ever team at this level who have not scored a single goal this season. And you then have to listen to the manager say he didn’t think we could play through them which just beggars belief really.
You can only write off so many results like yesterday, or Cambridge, or Wigan who are finding their level, before you find yourself stuck in a position you don’t want to be wondering how it happened. I would love to have the faith some do that things will get better but we are a year in now and I don’t think we’re better than the day he walked through the door. Our best player will leave for either nothing in the summer or next to nothing in January.

Nope..slept on it and I am still furious about yesterday’s match. I rarely comment on this forum, but I enjoy the comments and banter. Living just outside Cheltenham, this game is a bit special for us, with some of us living within walking distance of Whaddon Road and rarely being able to get tickets for away games. So we had 6 seats in the Cheltenham fans.
Furious, because for the first 20 minutes of the second half Max Bird ran the game from central midfield and we had Cheltenham on the ropes. Then inexplicably Bird gets moved forward to the number 10 role to accommodate the ineffective Hourihane. After that we should still have won it against such poor opposition, but to move Bird was tactically inept and made us less effective.

In my professional environment I behave very differently from what I do on this forum as you might expect. This after all, is an ultimately anonymous social setting where we can be combative. We are not acting in a professional capacity representing the club or arguably fighting for our job. If the manager can't give an adequate explanation as to why he's not playing one of our best attacking players that is a cause for concern. If he can't field a simple tactical question without his back getting up that also makes me wonder is he like this if his players disagree? If so, how does that make them feel? I would say when Warne gets questions asking about tactics and selections he gets more prickly than a lot of other managers we've had tbh in their post-match pressers from what I remember.

At times it's like he's watching a completely different game and he's rarely able to justify his answers with any quantitative or strong qualitative analysis. It always reminds me of someone who's been caught out not doing their background research and saying something on the fly.

I'm a little surprised about the performance. I genuinely thought we turned the corner and found a system that works well that blends our technical players and Warnes simple tactical play. I thought the lads strolled up, didn't take their chances and Cheltenham quite rightly had a bigger hunger due to them not wanting a horrible record in their history book. We completely underestimated the opposition and that's why we didn't win.
Warne has to back his team in post match interviews, you can't in this day and age be critical of your own players in public and expect any changes. Thought he came across very arrogant in the Radio Derby interview. Some of the questions were a little awkward but I don't appreciate the sarcasm when talking about putting Bradley on to win a goal from a set piece, over potentially putting Sibley on the pitch. No need for it, stupid remark. Gained nothing.
He seemed far too happy about a point gained and protecting the unbeaten run. You've got the biggest wage budget in this division, the best resources by far to get this club to the Championship. If you can't put in a half decent performance against a club who's top earner probably earns less than our lowest paid squad player, difficult questions are going to be asked by folks. As much as want us to go under the radar, we're a big favourite for promotion. There is nowhere to hide.
I keep hearing Warne going on about the league table, another naff result and we're stuck in mid table. The main positive however is we're unbeaten, that's what the manager is clinging on to. Without this, he would be getting more negative criticism from the supporters. We've got plenty of winnable games this month, we have to start pulling away from the rest of the pack and asking questions of our promotion rivals.

Even if he gets us out of L1 (which based on current performances ain't happening) does anyone trust him to keep us in the Championship? He gives L1 teams far too much respect, imagine what he'd be like in the Championship.
He's at the wrong club. We need something else.

You have to think that if Steele on RD is giving Warne a hard time, then others with good football knowledge will also be doing the same (whether out loud or internally).

We were the better team and played ok in patches………..but it’s a very low bar!
I can’t understand the reluctance to sub Collins.
Should have moved Waghorn upfront with Sibley, Bird or even Hourihane coming on as sub at HT for Collins, would have given us a much better chance/cutting edge.
If you can see it’s not working, you change it. We didn’t and we got exactly what we deserved.
Very frustrating and the RD interview doesn’t sound good. I’ll reserve judgement till I’ve actually heard it mind.

Sure I just heard our head 'coach' say our plan was to not use the midfield at all.  Dynamic thinking against a side of giants who can't move but can head all day.  My plan was too not use the central areas at all and get it out wide every time.
Then a surly load of nonsense when questioned about Sibley.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but did you hear Warne on radio Derby? Literally said he didn't want the ball in midfield. Happily admitted to setting us up to NOT play football. He was worried about their overload in midfield. So decided to kick it over the head of midfield all first half.
He's responsible for that. Absolutely rubbish when that's how he sets up against a team bottom of the league. As if our midfield wouldn't be able to play football against them today. I can't fault the players if that's how they're told to play. They've come out with credit from me for not losing the game, despite being set up to play that anti football.
I find it really frustrating. It's not like we don't have the players to play. Man for man, not many other players in this league would get into our team. I just can't understand it.

I did not like that interview at all
he’s not bothered about playing football in midfield and the likes of Sibley are simply not going to get a proper go in the league which is incredibly frustrating when we know what he can do but Warne didn’t sign him did he and simply wants to play all the highly experienced players and not give the talented ones a go.
frustrating and I still believe most supporters could manage the players we have and achieve the current level of performances

Worried about their overload in midfield? The side who hadn't scored a league goal before today had Warne worried? This is us in a nutshell we get worried about teams we are miles better than. Respect them by all means but just play our game and beat them with the superior quality

If you're overrun in midfield then put another body in there. Tell waggy to drop back. Tell cashin to step up. Play sibs as a 10 and put him in the middle to win balls and break up play. How he came out with the idea to just give up on midfield is madness.

The quality of our players should be much, much more than enough to handle something as basic as there being an extra man in midfield. It's baffling for me.

Less than a tenth of people who regularly watch Derby live at home get to the away matches on anything like a regular basis.
That's why it is so important for us to find a way to improve our home performances.
There's absolutely no point me telling you how much more fun away games are. You want to experience that feeling for yourselved,  and the noise around this won't die down until you do.

Does it need a poor run? Clough Jnr was going nowhere season after season slowly sinking the ship and then rising up again. It could have continued for decades. 😄
I guess if time doesn't matter the fans can wait for Warne to retire. After all what does it matter how much fun the football is or how successful, we still have a club.
Name me a business where the CEO is still the same one as when they were founded. Change happens, what is best if is it is controlled and aimed. I guess it depends what you find acceptable for a club of Derby's stature to be achieving. I see nothing in what Warne is putting forward other than the chance of promotion that would make me proud to be a Derby fan. Mac 1 had us playing the sort of football that made us 'everyone's second team'. It was wild. Lampard, Rowett both had the fans hearts beating faster. Warne is just at best dull.
It's not just where you're going it's how you get there. Sticking with the wrong person because you don't want to sack them makes no sense at all.

We missed Hourihane today.  Firstly, his set pieces would be better.  Secondly,  whether he's playing well or not, it gives their defence who were quite happy to sit in and head it away, the stick or twist dilemma that not pushing up means he could rocket one in from 15 yards at any point.  That's why Sibley should have played behind Waghorn when the subs were made.  It would have made their centre backs very uncomfortable for 30 mins.
Really poor game management.  A Sunday league manager would have seen it.

Pail Warne’s observation that when we tried playing through the middle the passes got blocked misses the fact that he had the wrong player in the key position. He put Waghorn in the number 10 role, and the lad looked lost. He should be up front, although he is happy playing out wide. This is quite ripe for another pro-Sibley comment, so here it is. He was sat on the bench yet again. Warne acknowledges that Sibbers is the best finisher at the club, so when we are struggling to score, why put him on the bench? His best position is at number 10, but when he finally gets on, 65 minutes too late, it is stuck out wide, where Waggy prefers to be! What if Warne had played a number 10 in the number 10 role, instead of giving the job to a player whose only link to the role is having a number 10 on his back?

Imo, No. He's a decent player but no more. Sometimes goes missing for large parts of the game. He has his moments for certain and he's had games where he's been brilliant, but it's very few and far between.
Fornah looks a better player for me and he's only been here a month or so.
    My opinion of course 😆
