It's all well and good comparing our points totals this season to previous seasons in both Derby and Warne's history. The problem is that come the end of the season the points total will be compared to the other teams in the division and we are already 9/10 points off the pace.

Also, Warne may have seen the light or even the comments on this forum about his 3 centrebacks with wingbacks that produced dire football and bad results. We look so much better with 4 at the back, which we played in most games last season during that 15 match unbeaten run. And did he get lucky picking up Waggy through Fozzy wanting him at his testimonial match, then Rooney getting injured and others in that position also crocked he gambled on bringing in Nyambe.
Perhaps he got lucky at Rotherham getting those 3 promotions and being at a smaller club was restricted in improving the squad, hence getting relegated twice. With 7 years in management under his belt, now is his time to prove that he can be successful. Get Derby Promotion and keep us in the Championship and maybe beyond.
But please Mr Warne no more 3 at the back with wingbacks, with the players we have lets stick with 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.

We are doing ok away from home. I thought Tuesday night was the best ive seen us since February!! The movement off the ball and the passing was very good. Defensively pretty solid. At home its been nothing short of very basic and boring. Its not just a few games either. I reckon we havent played well at home since Morecambe!! We have to become a better side at home. The goals against Lincoln were 1st class. Thats what we need...movement,clever play, third man running..teams cant cope with that at this level. Our squad is capable of top 2. Look at the bench the other night. Unreal bench for League 1. And thats with Ward,Elder,Thompson and Jules still out!! Warne has to show more at home. The players are there. No excuses.

Whilst we have a manager who prefers not to have the ball than have it, I’m going to struggle to support him.
It’s amazing really - when the team plays football we score goals - all three at Blackpool were super, so why doesn’t he encourage that style of play more often?

I was at the game stood in the Cheltenham terraces (i live locally, that's my excuse!)

First half was nothing short of woeful.  Cheltenham fans around saying how poor we were.
Couldn't put two passes together and far too relaxed.  I was almost on the pitch i was that close and there was zero noise being made by the players to each other compared to the Cheltenham players, apart from to moan at each other.
Second half much better but still highlighting the obvious lack of a proper goal scorer.  Bird made a difference!
Still, its one game we certainly cant sing "Cheltenham's a s*** hole, i want to go home" at!
Loved their banter at scoring a goal - I sang along to that one!

The key is to find these forwards before they become £1m players. It’s not easy obviously but that is what people are paid good money to do. I don’t think the question is how much would Colby Bishop, Devante Cole or Dion Charles cost now, but rather how much did Bishop and Charles cost Accrington, and Cole cost Barnsley.
It’s not an exact science, I’m sure Accrington have had some duds alongside those two but if they can find these hidden gems, so can we. Incidentally Bishop was at Derby til he was 15 and released. Probably the best all round 9 at this level now.
If the manager or recruitment team are simply looking at last seasons top scorer list to inform their targets then we will never ever get good value for money again. We have to be smarter.

Depends how you see it really, 8th place in a pretty poor league. More importantly for me, pretty poor football.

Haven’t seen the game yet, nor indeed the highlights package, but very disappointing that we didn’t have the wherewithal to beat a very poor team.
Also disappointing to listen to our manager say that he was concerned about being overloaded by Cheltenham’s midfield, and his clear instructions were to bypass a midfield battle and just get it out wide quickly to the wings.  We have Bird, Hourihane, Smith and Fornah. All good ball players. Surely, to god though those kind of players can be up to going head to head and winning against Cheltenham’s Rag, Tag and Bobtail. If our sole tactical aim is to hope NML gets a few crosses in and Collins heads it adequately, we are in for a continuation of what we have seen ever since Warne took over - chaotic, basketball type football, with points ultimately gained from such tactics only sufficient to end up around 6th or 7th position.

I wish Barks would stop saying on commentary of Collins "he's been putting away chances like that throughout his career". I know he has scored a lot but on the evidence of his Derby career I reckon he should be saying "he misses guilt edged chances like that every blooming week". Yes and I know he runs around a lot.....

Collins fluffed his lines again had enough chances to walk away with the match ball with a bit of composure can't blame warne for that move on

The football is really turgid stuff, first half was dreadful.
So incredibly one dimensional, get it out wide and hope the winger can beat the full back and cross.
No plan for if that doesn't work, seemingly full backs are being told not to overlap and we aren't trying to progress play through the middle.
Early subs made sense and did improve us but he lost the plot towards the end.
Bird had a big impact playing from deep, when he got pushed further forward he got crowded out, I thought the obvious change would have been Smith off (who'd had a poor game) and drop Bird back in with Sibley at 10.
The change to a back 3 and bringing Washington on absolutely killed us and Cheltenham could've had a winner.
We need to be vastly more creative and actually attempt to score goals in ways other than crosses and set pieces, but I don't see this changing.
Think Warne is a little bit lucky that  there is no home game next weekend, a bad result there would have gone down very poorly.

I think the point people are making about yesterday is that although we didn't do too badly playing the way we were set up, some of us feel we could have done so much better with a midfield three and playing football on the ground more.
    Cheltenham are poor.

It’s not hyperbole we should be beating the worst side in the division by some distance and the worst thing for me is when we do try and play a bit of football we create chances so why don’t we get the football on the floor more ?

Once Cheltenham scored they were happy with the point they turned their home game into a “home game” problem for us.

Cheltenham, once they that scored, played in the same way that Cambridge did in our last home game and we find very difficult to break down teams that just sit back and defend.
Our good away form is based on counter attacking teams not breaking down packed defences, we need to find an answer to breaking down defences.

It's not knee-jerk stuff when the performances have been poor for a majority of the season so far.

I do understand those of you that don’t want us chopping and changing but just a reminder that the difference between L1 and the champ is around 8-10m isn’t it?

You might be happy to take another season in this division - and it’s been quite interesting playing different teams after about 400 years in the championship - but will our finances take another year in L1?

I guess my point is, if you’re confident Warne will take us up then fair enough. We keep going. If you’re not confident he’ll get us up then we need to think about whether we can take the financial shortfall for another year?

Don't disagree with a word you have said, the best one to sum up the day is in there as well.
    Frustrating.
That for me lies with the players today, Collins in particular.

I've really really really wanted to give Warne the benefit of the doubt.
Even after watching that, I was still just about onside, let's face it Collins should have scored at least once today, that's not on the manager.
His Radio Derby interview has tipped me over the edge.
Giving up midfield as a deliberate ploy when facing the 24th best team in the league, without a single goal to their name all season, how on earth do the squad take confidence in their abilities when that's the managers mindset?
Even if that attitude was successful over a season, what happens beyond?
Ipswich are running wild in the division above, having been promoted last season, can anyone honestly see a PW led Derby County doing the same if we somehow squeaked promotion this year?
He talks a good game, but plays a pretty poor one.

We’ve got better midfielders than them though surely there has to be some trust that we can win the battle in the middle?
I’m not saying don’t plan to utilise the space either side of their 3 CBs but don’t give up on the middle of the park because they’ve been innovative enough to put an extra body there.
It wasn’t that bad as a stand alone away performance I’d agree.
I think if you add in the context that we were playing the worst team in the division by some distance it becomes more frustrating. It was such an opportunity to get back to back wins and put some of the negativity behind us.
I’d say I agree that players need to be held accountable. NML at times is so completely devoid of quality (which is more frustrating as at the start of last season he looked the best winger in the division). Collins has got To score from 2 yards out. Forsyth and Collins both (whilst we were building pressure) uselessly lumped crosses straight out behind the goal when we were in dangerous positions.

BUT the first half we didn’t look up for it. We needed to use our quality to take the sting out of their enthusiastic start and then turn the screw’s ourselves. The responsibility for getting the players fired up - especially after an excellent away result against Blackpool - is Warnes.

    Lots of talk about Sibley.
I would have brought him on for Forsyth who was awful.
I would certainly have left Barkhuisen on.
    We should call ‘Wash’ HOG!

I hear he found him having a crafty fag round the back of the Moor Farm changing rooms.  He's now on his list of not good people and must drink 20 espressos in an hour as contrition to get off the naughty list.  Until then his position will be taken by Waggers or Wash, who is without doubt in the top 20 most pants footballers I've seen pull on a Derby shirt.  He may even push out Fagin in my top 10.

Pail Warne’s observation that when we tried playing through the middle the passes got blocked misses the fact that he had the wrong player in the key position. He put Waghorn in the number 10 role, and the lad looked lost. He should be up front, although he is happy playing out wide. This is quite ripe for another pro-Sibley comment, so here it is. He was sat on the bench yet again. Warne acknowledges that Sibbers is the best finisher at the club, so when we are struggling to score, why put him on the bench? His best position is at number 10, but when he finally gets on, 65 minutes too late, it is stuck out wide, where Waggy prefers to be! What if Warne had played a number 10 in the number 10 role, instead of giving the job to a player whose only link to the role is having a number 10 on his back?

We've new owner, no debt as such, a good budget, a business plan agreed with the EFL, a decent squad...and we've spent over a year going nowhere.
What are we waiting for? 😄
