That’s pretty much how I saw it.  Bradley had his best game in a Rams shirt, I wonder if being captain gave him more confidence?  I think Warne picked the best starting 11 he could given he’d lost Collins on Wednesday and being a bit careful with others coming back.  I also thought his subs were spot on.  Smith allowed Bird more freedom and a bit more positivity on the right with moving Wilson there.  I think if we want Sibley to play in a more attacking role, he’s best as an impact sub and it worked today.  Full credit to Warne, I’ve been critical of his use of subs in the past, but not today.

I’m sorry but I really don’t get this place sometimes.  We’ve taken 6 points this week and opened a gap on 3rd and 4th.  They have games in hand but they’re under pressure to win them and it this stage of the season I’d rather have the points.   We win 3-0 on Tuesday and we didn’t deserve as we only had 30% possession.  We win today and we only had 2 shots on target. They were organised at the back and did OK at nullifying us and we lost our focal point up front in the week.  I despair!!

This place is full of extremely top qualified coaches that have won everything in the professional game of football and top quality professional football players that have won every division, every cup and every award.

I agree with you. I enjoyed the game, we performed well, in a game, that was always going to be a battle and we won the 3 points. Another great week to be a Derby County supporter.

  2. I think all supporters would like to see us promoted and build the club back to being successful.

We are achieving results and we are currently rebuilding. A lot of work has been achieved so far and a lot of work will be required to carry on rebuilding.

As supporters we have a massive part to play in the success of the club. Paul Warne talks about the importance of unity, that is all of us together, making Pride Park, a place that opposing teams, don’t enjoy playing at, from all the positive support we provide to our club. Callum Elder talks about us galvanising, the characters we have at the club. Ebou Adams is showing his passion and fight on the pitch.

I watch how HKR are rebuilding in Rugby League successfully with the same unity, the importance of passionate fans supporting their team, I watch how players celebrate together when they have had a part to play in the opposition making mistakes on and off the pitch from the pressure created by everyone together.

I read on here on this forum about us supporters being more B4, being more positive and wishing and believing in the current players, current coaches, current chairman, current staff at the football club, but then some of us opting to try and look for faults, pick holes, be bored, turn on players, turn on coaches, predict future failures, when the opportunity of trying to be part of all the positive aspects of the current day, the now, the rebuilding, is with us all to grasp.

We marched and we were all together in the hope to save our club, it’s more important now, to stay together and work together to rebuild the football club, Derby County the football club, we all love.

Our most successful coaches are watching us all at UNITY PLAZA and they are part of the unity, the belief, the passion, the pride we all have, in achieving the success we all desire.

Only got back into Leeds at 8.30am this morning after a nightmare with a connecting coach but here are a stream of thoughts from my sleep deprived mind.

Absolutely clinical display from Derby - felt like the game was pretty even first half until Max's goal. Thereafter, their need to attack opened up acres of space that Mendez-Laing & Barkhuizen thrived on - both should have had another goal. Exeter obviously had a lot of ball in the second half as we looked to break on them & had a couple of real opportunities but we did look reasonably assured. The possession stats showing 30% for us would likely have been higher if the game was more even but it does reveal a lot about how this team finds success.

Ebou Adams is the missing ingredient this team has needed for months - perpetual energy, real hunger to protect that back line & plays it simple. Successful midfields are all about blend, not just your best players & his skills perfectly compliment Bird and/or Hourihane.

Lovely to see Max on the scoresheet again - he seems to be really enjoying his football & I hope he realises the majority of Derby fans appreciate what a bloody good player he is & that he's staying with us until the summer to take us up. He deserves a good reception every time he returns to PP as an opposition player.

Away support was fantastic but would agree with others that the truncated nature of the away end made for pockets of fans singing rather than a group effort. That said, had a great time - very loud around us (right behind goal) & enjoyed the celebrations immensely.

Massive game on Saturday against the type of team we tend to struggle with - physical, niggly, clinical & hard pressing. Real test of our promotion credentials as these are the games (both auto promotion challenge & potential playoff games) that we need to win. Would be a real shame not to follow up yesterday's great result with a home win.

Very frustrating, particularly given Bolton & Peterborough dropped points.

As others have mentioned, conceding late goals at home is becoming a recurring theme with this team. There seems to be a real reluctance to a) hold onto possession & b) slow the game down. We drop deeper when protecting leads at home & on the break, seem desperate to make the killer pass to score a deciding goal. Problem however is that the ball is often lost from the flick on/speculative ball/run into a load of their defenders...they then recycle the ball & come back at us with our defensive shape pulled out of position.

We can point to weak defending for the goal but we shouldn't be conceding the ball so easily in the first place. Get the ball on halfway line? Hold the bloody thing up & play it simple to move the team up the park. This is basic stuff we're not doing & it's going to cost us.

NML losing possession easily again that led to their thrown in and to the goal. He’s done that a few times. Can’t shield the ball

The basics are key and it’s been mentioned in previous matches threads by @FlyBritishMidland myself and a few others, including Paul Warne mentioning how important they were, in our victory away at Charlton.

I have only seen the highlights of this match and I didn’t see the build up to the throw in, but @HorsforthRam mentioned NML, and it can happen, and it does happen with other players, that we have all seen in a few other matches, when they either over play it, hold on to the ball far too long, or add in additional step overs, struggle to shield the ball, put in a poor pass, to put a team mate under pressure etc,  forcing other players to then also to fail, to do the basics, which is usually down to making the quick decision, of controlling it and passing it on, in a comfortable manner and therefore keeping us in position, instead of the knock on effects it has on the team and usually the result, when we fail to be good at the basics.

From only watching the highlights it looked like we created a few good opportunities to score that second goal, but on this occasion, were not far away from doing so.

For 60 minutes it looked like they were still in Reading!!  One of the games where you’re glad you’ve got the 3 points but know you’ve got away with one.  But, there are no bonus points for playing well.  That said, we do need to start doing the basics better.  Too many times in the last couple of games passing the ball more than 5 yards seems to be the most difficult thing in the world.  And the players have to bear their share of the blame and that really is basic.

They do seem to have character though.  After Tuesday, to behind at home in what was, at times, a pretty nasty atmosphere takes guts.

Booing - never understood it, never will.  I think that if I had people following me around at work and they booed me at lunch, would it motivate me for the afternoon.  No.  Footballers are no different.

Totally agree with the need to be doing the basics better. We have seen the players in other games, when they have done the basics well, then the passing, and creating, and better tempo follows and we see better individual and in turn better team performances.

That process works in the stadium also from the fans, they are part of the process, they require also to achieve their basics, be passionate, sing, keep songs going as long as possible, be loud and proud with the singing, keep the opposing fans quiet, be creative, the better tempo follows, and we see and enjoy all together, better individual and in turn better performances from the crowd, the supporters of the players, the club, that they want and crave to do well.

Occasionally, teams make a single signing that transforms the team.

Virgil van Dyke at Liverpool, Kante at Leicester are good examples off the top of my head.

I think Warne has found a player in Adams who can have a similar positive effect.

Fitted almost seamlessly into that midfield, and just made everyone around him that little bit more effective.

Keep him fit, and he'll make a massive difference come the end of the season.

Good pick up in the Jan window, and brave to slot him straight in, good call Paul.
