Oh I get your point and to a large extent agree with you, having leadership figures in the squad is really useful especially for blending in academy players. I was more just musing on it as an issue as I'm not convinced it was the primary issue last season and I often think it's given a disproportional amount of attention and importance (especially when it's purely about experience and not necessarily how good a leader they are).

    Each to their own
I think (especially in a relegation battle) matches can come down to the smallest increments and that's where having leadership figures makes a difference - The ability to pull a defence together to see out the win/draw in the last few minutes - Organising the defence in such a away that you're able to spot the gaps and direct people to fill them - Pushing the team on when they're flagging - Taking responsibility for the ball further up the pitch and holding on to it when options aren't available - Giving the more talented players the support and encouragement to try a pass or a run despite any grief they might get from the fans/manager for failure
I think we have a lot of talented youngsters coming through - But they need those kind of leadership figures (or experienced old heads maybe) who can help give them confidence - Shinnie is essentially a relative newbie as a midfielder as is Wisdom as a CB - These guys are still learning their own position so can't impart that confidence in other people

I mostly agree - I've always thought 2 'senior' players per position was adequate - With any player who's started 15+ games in a single season counting towards that (so Knight, Buchanan, Bird, probably Sibley)
However I think the thing we haven't accounted for is leadership on the pitch - Wisdom and Clarke, whilst having experience, were not defensive leaders - Shinnie is an absolute asset and a terrier but is not a leader - And it was noticeable that without Davies and Bielik last season we didn't have that influence on the pitch

Somewhat contradictory statements there - I'd have thought if the players are as bad as you claim then they would not be capable of keeping us up

This weekend the eyes of the football world will be on the Rams. Absolutely no point in turning up to protest - that would just be a huge shot in the foot. The situation is what it is. Let's turn up, cheer and support WR and the players. 3 points from a win will give the players a huge boost; siege mentality, fans behind them, nothing to lose. We're in this together. If you can keep your head when all about are losing theirs and blaming it on you...

I do think too much leniency has been given to managers over the years - I think Cocu (more than any other manager) was screwed by having to deal with the tail end of a squad made up of 3/4 previous managers signings and/or losing those players in one fell swoop
Too many managers seem to have come in and said "I need a Left Back, but not the kind we currently have" and been allowed to go off and buy that player - With no one above them pushing to sell a player from the position before they could bring one in

There are, unfortunately, enough people out there who see places like this forum as their 'right' and don't give any thought to fact that it takes time, effort and money to run - I can pretty much guarantee none of them have ever offered to help run this place or offered to contribute financially to it - Yet they're happy to have a pop at the people who do
I think they're the same people who complain about Morris running the club into the ground and when asked what their solution would be state "well that's not for me to work out - They should work that out shouldn't they?"
Is the club in a mess at the moment? Yes
Do I think the work David puts in to keep this place running FOR US is worthy of respect and some basic politeness? Yes
Is the mess at the club the fault of anyone on this board? No (well, probably not - We're all mostly anonymous)

Is it just me that reads the academy comment as meaning that in the past the academy players weren’t being brought through, which left us in a worse position to keep some of the others, or to get really good money for them, rather than now?
Rooney has given a lot of them game time, as did Cocu, but before that not many were given a chance, only really Bogle.
At the time we had Lowe, but we bought Malone, who ended up not being used too much in his second year and then going out on loan through to the end of his contract, and we ended up selling Lowe for probably less than we could have got had he played more the year before, rather than having been sent out on loan to Aberdeen. In the end we sold him to let Buchanan through, which is exactly the way the academy should work, in an ideal world, but we likely would have gotten more for Lowe with more game time.
Knight probably could have broken through in the Lampard season, given how quickly he broke through the next year, but instead I think the first time we see him (on the bench) is at Leeds in the play off semi, despite IIRC having had many injuries to midfield players during the season.

Hardly a shock - But then I find it amazing that they weren't already aware of his thoughts on the academy, he's been pretty vocal over time
Morris has said over and over that he wants to have more academy players in the side - But he's also repeatedly put his hands in his pockets to pay for more senior players - I think the problem is he keeps stating his personal opinions as a fan (more youth) in forums where he should stick to the business principles of being the owner (players that the manager wants)

BTW does anyone want to talk about Mel wanting to sell 2 years ago?
That would have been around the time we were playoff finalists and doing pretty well - And yet no-one was interested in buying the club at that time it seems - The following season we signed Rooney (for good or ill) and still no offers I'm assuming
Is it any wonder the offers we get for the club now are 'tricky' to get over the line?

It says he "could" - Which he definitely has the ability to do
It doesn't say he "would" or even "may" - It doesn't say that he's considering it just that it is one option available to him
I think we need to be very careful with our analysis when it comes to stuff like this because changing that word from could to may gives it a very different meaning and some people will only see your post

I used "may" as in "it is a possibility", just like the word "could". But I get your point and have edited my post to avoid unnecessary interpretation.

You've been working on the assumption our Wayne knows how many hours there are in a day - Or even what day of the week it is

Actually with all seriousness I wonder if he had just lost track of the days? I genuinely lose track of what day it is if I have a week off and footballers have the whole summer off - Then pre-season starts but you don't necessarily play games on a Saturday - So where's your reference point? Plus no-one accuses players of being particularly well organised people - Watching the doccos on Netflix/Prime somewhat suggests they have a LOT of people around clubs who look after basic things for them like their schedule
He may well have thought the whole of Wednesday was within 48 hours of when he was speaking

You make a lot of assumptions about the club being the ones enforcing this NDA because they don't want to talk about things
As part of any company takeover process pretty much all meetings where senior management (or senior stakeholders in the business) are going to discuss almost anything with outside parties (which we as fans are in a business context) would be covered by an NDA - Regardless of the content of the meeting and what is said there
The club and employees within it will be covered by an NDA as part of the takeover process/negotiations - But the people attending tonights forum won't be - So there would be a requirement which likely comes from whoever is currently negotiating to buy the club (if they're sensible) to make sure this is covered by an NDA as a matter of course

Regardless of that if @David says he's happy with the answers given in the meeting then so am I - I think we have pretty decent and level-headed moderators around here - Open to information from the club/Morris but cynical enough to take it with a pinch of salt - But I appreciate not everyone on here is going to take that line
