Films take forever to make. Bohemian Rhapsody began about a decade ago and they picked SBC as first-choice Freddy in 2010. But he walked in 2013. There are differing opinions as to what went wrong, but clearly he didn't agree with the film Queen wanted to make and Queen didn't like the film he wanted to make.

Figures. I think the article sums it up pretty well. One thing I'd be nigh on certain of is that Freddy would have like SBC's version better. Straight-washing his sexuality would have been an absolute no-no and rightly so. I've a hunch Frears would have rather shot a more true to life version too. The irony is that Queen are trying to protect an image that does not exist. In terms of public awareness of Freddy's personal life, that horse hasn't just bolted, it's run the length Newmarket High Street and far beyond.

    Seriously? Ridiculous review IMHO.

Thought it started excellently. I defy anyone to say the first act wasn't genuinely shocking/surprising.

First half promised so much, then tailed off and became generic and slightly disappointing....

Was actually going to watch this but have no idea whether I should or not now. Stringer reckons it's hilarious but not sure how to take that observation tbh ?‍♀️

This is meant to be Freddy Mercury we're talking about. Way too anodyne for me. You can see why Sacha Baron-Cohen didn't work out in such a sanitized version of the story. Astonished his replacement Rami Malek is up for an Oscar.

Malek definitely a strange call to play such a vibrant and larger than life character. Was OK in Mr Robot and would think that's more his thing really. Didn't know Ali G was in the running! Would have been fascinating to see how that worked out - have a hunch Baron-Cohen would have been excellent. Also a dead-ringer for Freddie. WIll give it a swerve I reckon, in any case. Thanks for write up ?

  4. Bimblers. Folk who bimble about, stopping frequently for no apparent reason other than to get in other folks' way. When allowed out in groups they can easily occupy the entire width of a pavement as they bimble merrily along with the rest of the world stuck behind them. These are the same folk who think that because they've had to queue to pay for something, when it's their turn to cough up for their wares, they should rightfully make a day of it. They also like to occupy the bar at the pub  once they arrive at it, thereby ensuring long waits for anyone actually trying to get a round in.

Next door neighbours got a dog. Looks like a little Jack Russell, poor buggers left at home all day, I know because it whimpers allllllll day, which triggers my dog.

Might have to offer my daytime services for free, but I probably won’t offer as it might come across a bit wrong and don’t want to ruin these arrangement where they bring the bin in and I tell the missus I did.

It’s this tiny puppy though, lonely, just wants attention and I’m a brick wall away ?

Precisely the reason I've never bought a dog, despite having wanted one my entire life. It's a big responsibility and one that should be taken seriously. Maybe if there was more than one dog it might be a bit better, but leaving a puppy to it's own devices all day, every day, seems really unfair to me.

  6. Green Book

A simple, poignant and ultimately heart-warming tale of a working-class doorman hired to chauffeur black virtuoso pianist, Dr Don Shirley, on a tour of the Deep South in 60s America. Think ‘role-reversed Driving Miss Daisy’ and you won’t be too far off. An absolute gem of a movie.

    A Star is Born

Definitely not something I’d have gone out of my way to watch, but what do I know? Directed and starring Bradley Cooper (who also co-wrote the film) it features an absolutely stellar Lady Gaga in the role of Ally. Never been a fan of Lady Gaga's music but she’s an absolute revelation in this, so set aside any preconceptions and give it a whirl. It’s a simply brilliant, if heart-rending film.

    The Meg

WTAF. Loved The Stath in films like Lock Stock and Snatch, but this atrocious cinematographic dog turd of a movie is so awful that I actually found myself willing the shark to prevail. Statham and the cast stumble through the film looking utterly bemused, but doubtless not as perplexed as the financiers who stumped up nearly £100 million to make it. Staggeringly, the film somehow generated a modest ROI. Just say no…

  7. Busy end to 2018 in boxing terms. Fury robbed IMO. That said I had him to win on points to good money so I may be talking through my now rather emptier pockets. Taking a fight in the US is a path fraught with danger as the refereeing in the States often beggars belief. The Mexican judge must be related to Mr Magoo.

Interesting fare tonight. Whyte / Chisora 1 was a more than decent scrap but I'm tuned in for the Frampton vs Warrington bout which I’m hoping will be the best fight across either card. Frampton on points the call, but Warrington is no respecter of reputations and a win for him would not surprise.

Al about showing an animal respect... she’s still vary wary and timid with strangers but she now knows we aren’t going to hurt her ? a lot of treats is also key!

Tales of rescue dogs finding love and a good home is a fast way to melt my icy heart! Never had a dog, always wanted one. When treated right it seems they are the most loving and loyal creatures on the planet. Clearly Ruby has not been lucky up to now so it's lovely she's found someone to look after her properly.

You've obviously done a good job then and Ruby is obviously a deal happier with you than wherever she was before ?

Wilder is a guy that owns a bazooka, a gold desert eagle and wants a body on his record. He fights for the black race, he's a King and a soldier who's put on this earth to punish people for their sins.

Hopefully Tyson can put his jaw out of action for a bit because the guy is a complete dick head.

I find his act quite tiresome now. Him and his team are very very boring but loud. I want him to lose his title, his money fight v AJ and whatever small support he has in America.

I mean Tyson talks poo but he's got layers and there's a good bloke in there.

Wilder talks poo. Like full time. With any decency becoming deeper with every ego boosting win against the easiest opponents he can get away with. Knobber

Think most neutrals will want a win for Tyson too. Wilder has some kind of weird anti-charisma thing going on where it's impossible to find anything likeable about him at all. He has a puncher's chance I suppose but I'd hope Fury has done the gym-work and can go the 12. WIlder may land a big shot and kill the fight but given Tyson outboxed and outpointed Klitschko, he's surely value to do the same to WIlder. For me, the entire fight hinges on Fury's fitness.

    Undercard...

Don't know why Crolla is so popular. I find him a bit dull.

Allen was Allen. Showed some nice punch variety and angles but moved like a tractor.

Josh Kelly had harder sparring. Not sure the point

Didn't watch Ricky Burns. Not really interested in his hunt for a title since he clearly pooed himself when challenged by Josh Taylor. Best days are in the past.

Two cruisers at the start were a good watch. The white dude was in total control until one punch, which he took really well, caused fight ending swelling. Very unlucky for it to swell like that after you took it so well.

That 4 round fight was alright.

Decent night rather than spectacular. Lots of expected winners.

Yep, decent entertainment and agree with pretty much all of your assessments. Shame to see Bellew stopped. Think Usyk broke his heart after some early success. Have grown to like Bellew over the years. Can't remember why I wasn't keen to start tbh. Seems pretty genuine and has worked hard to improve to a level few would have thought he could. Doubtless has a nice few quid stashed away for his 'retirement' so fair play to him really. Interesting now to see what Usyk does next. The step up to HW looks inevitable - can he mimic Holyfield's success? Not sure but his presence would definitely add some spark to the division. A match up against Joshua would be a absolutely huge but a few hoops to jump first I guess.
