Ghost of Clough got a reaction from angieram in Academy thread 23/24
Interestingly, we've had 33 dangerous attacks and 11 shots to their 25 and 7.
Gibson-Hammond just came on for Moloney at LW.
Edit: it took just 2 minutes for Gibson-Hammond to smash one into the top corner.
Wheeldon came on for Richards prior to the goal too.

Both goals assisted by their left winger (Barrington). He's now on 2 goals and 4 assists in 6 games and someone to keep tabs on as a loan option in the future.
He had 6 goals and 8 assists in 24 games at a 17/18 year old last season, as well as 10 goals and 7 assists in 22 games for Man City at U18 level the year before.

Ghost of Clough got a reaction from lrm14 in Can anyone actually name a single improvement Warne has done since arriving?
Using your logic, you also need to include Villa's future internationals too: Abraham, Grealish and Mings.
From that squad the following have represented their country:
England - Abraham, Grealish, Mings
Scotland - McGinn, Hutton
Ireland - Hourihane, Whelan, Hogan
Wales - Taylor, Chester
Norway - Nyland
Iceland - Bjarnason
Croatia - Kalinic
Belgium - De Laet
Egypt - El Mohamady, El Ghazi
Ghana - Adomah
Ivory Coast - Kodja
Congo - Bolasie
Australia - Jedinak
From our squad only King, Ledley, Cole, Lawrence, Mount, Wilson and Keogh have so far represented their country at least 5 times.

I agree. I'm expecting him to name this squad:
Wildsmith
Nyambe Nelson Cashin Forsyth
Mendez-Laing Fornah Smith Sibley
Waghorn Collins
Subs: Loach, Bradley, Wilson, Elder, Bird, Barkhuizen, Washington
Subbed off: for Mendez-Laing, Fornah, Sibley, Waghorn
Subbed on: Wilson, Bird, Barkhuizen and Washington
Maybe Bradley coming on to defend against a late aerial bombardment as Cambridge chase a late equaliser.

I'm going there to support the team. Why would I not, despite thinking we would be better off if we made changes out of my control?

Nyambe Nelson Cashin Fozzy
Fornah Smith

Just got round to watching Warne's preview. Can see him visibly getting choked up talking about Josh Vickers. Horrendous stuff, emotional, passionate... say whatever you like about him the manager, but he's a proper bloke, that is undeniable.

Mac1 turned a slightly above average Championship side into one playing fantastic football over night.
Rosenior created a very good League 1 side from scratch over a few weeks.
Warne has taken a very good League 1 side and turned it into an average one after 12 months and 55 games in charge, and can barely pass the ball anymore.

What utter nonsense. Everyone at the club has talked of winning promotion this season as the aim. Warne has even targeted top 3. Our budget at the very least is top 6, and a chance of it actually being the highest wage bill in the league this season. We are 8 games in, sit 9th in the table thanks to an over reliance on set pieces and Waggy magic, whilst performing more like a bottom half side not far off the relegation spots.
Anything less than promotion this season is a failure.

I was responding to the poster who said "Didn’t Florists put a younger team out that us that night ? Including a very young Brennan Johnson making his debut. Thrown in the deep end . At the end of the day it boils down to the quality of youngsters coming into the club."
I wsa showing them what the teams of both sides were on the night.
I'm not denying there wasn't a rebuild because we have lost a lot of talented youngsters. However, we do still have a number of talented players who aren't getting the first team experience they need for their development. Warne's approach is out of touch with the modern game, but that's not surprising when he's only ever worked at a club with a Category 3 academy prior to joining our club.
I would struggle to recall the score lines of individual games too. However, I would find it impossible to forget the scoreline of a game I attended a few hours ago, unless I wasn't interested in anything other than the first team players who are on the field, and then walk away when they've come off the pitch.
Warne shouldn't be relying on Buxton. He should be using his own judgment on players for the same reasons that everyone on this forum holds different opinions to someone else.
Small details matter:
2-0 up with 10 minutes to play against Lincoln in the Pizza Cup. It's the perfect scenario to give Robinson or Brown a runout to show what they can do, and to also give Smith or Collins a rest. Instead we only use 4 out of our 5 subs. 1-0 up vs Fleetwood. We've only used 4 subs and Mendez-Laing can hardly walk. We could have brought Bardell on to add fresh legs to the RWB area, or added Robinson to the midfield area to help shield the defence
2-0 up vs Carlisle with 2 subs spare. Another opportunity to give minutes to Robinson in a low risk scenario and give Smith a rest. -

There are a few factors which come in to play:
1. training and match intensity (primarily the former)
2. Age of players and being managed carefully (see Mendez-Laing as an example of someone who needs reduced play time to reduce the risk of injury)
3. A lot of the players we've recruited have all had limited game time over recent seasons - either due to injury or other reasons.
Here's the percentage of minutes played in the league last season for our new signings:
Ward - 77%
Nyambe - 53%
Nelson - 49%
Fornah - 47%
Elder - 46%
Washington - 41%
Bradley - 28%
Embleton - 26%
Waghorn - 22%
John-Jules - 19%
Vickers - 5%
Wilson - 2%

He didn't know the score - he said 4-2 when it was 5-2
He stated he watches the first half of U21 games on Saturdays - they have played on a Saturday only once since he's been manager. He's likely been watching the U18s instead but doesn't realise it.
He's joked about not wanting to be quizzed on naming the academy players.
