Going back to last night if I may (so not truly in keeping with the thread title, as there's now another game on!)...
Between seasons 1972-73 and 1990-91 inclusive... that's 19 consecutive seasons... Liverpool failed to finish in the top two... ONCE!
That's an incredible record, that perhaps the younger ones amongst us can't even begin to fathom!
For those of us who were brought up on football through that particular era, it still seems equally incredible... or rather it did, before last night... to hear the words "Liverpool have never won the Premier League"!  I could never get my head around that statement if truth be told, so if for no other reason, I'm glad I won't hear it again!

Seriously thinking of having a drive up there whilst these celebrations are going on...

People who go out to celebrate two nights running (at least!) during a viral pandemic, under the pretence of showing off their famed humour, friendliness, and staunch pride in their city and their football club, only to then be subsequently told by said club and city that they are in fact, an embarrassment to both, and that they have in fact brought shame on both!

Wife and I just managed to connect the football feed to the upstairs telly. 
Won't sound much to you young'uns but to us troglodytes it was like discovering fire! 

I hope you're okay. This sounds like a balanced decision where you have given him an opportunity to put things right. Very mature.
As you know, I am in the same situation as @Mucker1884  so I know when that door closes for good is a very painful life experience. I hope things change in time for you. 
In the meantime, be kind to yourself. 

Difficult for me to offer sympathy, empathy, or even advice, as I haven’t had a parent since I was 18... so 39 years now… but what I was going to say was, make sure you are certain. The less regrets we take to our death beds, the better a life we can look back on!
I'm a great believer in “you don’t appreciate what you’ve got until it’s gone”, so you need to be certain.
I say “was going to say…” as I’m sure you have indeed given considerable thought to such a decision, and ARE certain you are making the right one, so you don’t really need that little titbit from me, I guess. As others have alluded to, you do seem to have a sensible head on your shoulders when the need arises.
All the very best, buddy. You know where we are, if you need to bend an ear or two.
