If you're passing abandoned furniture and not posting it on @uttoxram75 legendary thread, you need banning from this forum forever! ?

    Money making tip:
Switch current accounts. You can make a few hundred quid from introductory offers by rotating around Nationwide, Lloyd's, Santander and First Direct.
Obviously make sure you fulfill the appropriate criteria but it's dead easy.

In theory correct. But I think the risk of brain drain caused by increased taxation only is overstated.
People live in the countries they do for more reasons than taxation. Especially rich people. It's why they all live in California.
If you give people enough benefits for residing here e.g. standard of living, culture, arts, liberty, law and order, health, good environment, enlightened society etc., those bright lights that are high earners will choose your country over some lawless, empty, illiberal, tax-free utopia that's too hot 10 months of the year e.g why live in Dubai when you can live in London.
Unfortunately, over the last x amount of time (could be 5 years could be 20 years, could be 50 years), our comparitive standard of living is down, culture and arts have been ravaged by Covid and then by the governments response and through years of dumbing down in the mainstream media, the government seems to think liberty only applies to itself and the police have today had to actually confirm that they will attend a burglary.
So yes, if you're in a position where you can leave, paying higher taxes will probably help make your decision for you, but if the other aspects of the country were in a healthy state, it probably wouldn't factor in so highly.
Overall, I think the sliders need some adjusting.

I think Pete doth protest too much. It just looks like a "1st world problem" when you live in a country where currently kids are going hungry and foodbanks are a boom industry. I've got family members working long shifts, sometimes 10-12 days straight without a day off, on minimum wage, for whom £500 is the difference between getting by and struggling to feed the family, pay rent etc. So I've got little sympathy for someone who can choose to give up work because their last day of 35 hour 9-5 working week is technically done on half pay. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

Problem in the UK has always been salaries, people just don't earn enough unless you're in London.
The country needs to decide if it's a high tax high benefit economy like Europe or a low tax, low benefit country like the US. Problem is we're a bit of both and that results in low salaries and the problems we're seeing now.
To give you an idea on salaries, I frequently hire new university leavers in the US for IT support work and they're on $50-55k minimum starting. All this is in a relatively low cost of living states (Indiana, Ohio & Tennessee).... When I left university in UK (Although just under 15 years ago) and I earned just 17k GBP.
UK Salaries are a joke and need to change.

Money saving tip of the day number two:
Save a fortune in commuting costs and income tax by getting sacked from your job to enjoy a wonderful life on the dole.
Not only will get to watch This Morning everyday like all those bloody middle class home office b*******, but you can even save up your massive £2002 per year "salary" (assuming you eat, drink, wash and sleep for free) and in just 50 years you'll have enough money to buy a one bedroom flat. Assuming your payment doesn't get stopped after 6 months that is.

Whenever the oppo's goalkeeper runs up to take a goal kick seems to be a thing of seasons past.
Probably cos they all play the ball short now and wouldn't have the same effect as it did accompanying a big booming clearance downfield.
    Completely stupid retro fun.

I’m 62 and most of my contemporaries   had final salary pensions whipped away along with companies taking “pension holidays “ when funds were supposedly full but never replaced them when the funds became depleted.
I don’t begrudge anyone getting help.
This Govt wants the young , old and poor to blame each other as a deflection to their incompetence and and cronyism.
We should stick together and support each other where we can.
