It could be an exciting ride.

Mel clearly has a grand vision, the plaza, expansions to Pride Park etc, it just looks as though he has reasons he needs to sell and he is passing the baton to someone with the wealth to put his visions in place.

Obviously we need promotion, but if we did ever achieve it, it wouldnt surprise me to see a stadium expansion, new stadium name etc.

I base this on nothing of course.

I agree, just because I like the idea

Stadium name spot on this is where surely they could they get wriggle room on spending on players. Sponsor the stadium for 20 million and call it the bin Zayed group stadium. Sponsor ship for shirts 32 red gone and a dubai based sponsorship.

Can think of two reasons why we should not call the Stadium by that name but The Khaled bin Zayed Stadium or The Zayed Stadium or The Khaled bin Zayed Pride Park Stadium would be fine. Latter being my first choice.

The Bin Zayed Group are an investment company with a specialism in construction so I would expect they would be interested in the infrastructure around the club, as well as the club itself.

One of their most notable investments is within the Indian city of Telangana: https://www.news18.com/news/business/dubai-based-bin-zayed-group-to-invest-2-billion-in-telangana-1563183.html

I don't know much about India, nevermind Telangana, but it's an extremely large city (population over 35m) and they're investing in the infrastructure to largely get a return on their investment. Instead of Telangana, see Derby County, we're going to be a relatively large investment for them and they will look to turn us into a profitable business which I imagine will include the club's infrastructure.

My best hope is that we're going to be run sensibly, by people who are interested in generating money. The only way you generate money in football is by being successful, creating excitement and consistently making right decisions.

One other interesting point about that data was that according to some reports quoted on this thread, the deal has been bubbling away for months, yet this par (assuming they were introducing intermediaries) were only appointed in late september....

Nice blooming work being a director for a month just to scoop a nice pile of coin......

If they bought the stadium from Mel as an outsider he could gift the money to the club. Not saying he should or would, but its one way round FFP.

They could then give the club a massive sponorship deal like they did at man city. Etihad airlines was losing money but spent millions on deals to man city. Plenty of loopholes if you plan to stick 2 fingers up to the efl ?

This then starts to smell like other similar schemes that ultimately failed - for example the Thais who bought Reading had an idea to develop the surrounding land for residential flats but couldn't get planning permission and hence withdrew and the club stagnated.

Little more than property speculation and using their cash pile to convert through rents to future income.

Not really, the company was only incorporated in Sep 2020 presumably once the deal had reached "finalisation" stage.

Depends whether they have bought the stadium too.

Good point.

I guess that would be on a separate invoice (as it's not currently part of "The club"), but hopefully still ends up being owned (again) by DCFC?

... Or would BZG own the stadium, and rent it to DCFC, as now?

Ooh...Ooh... Just realised... I almost have a Rams related reg plate, after coveting one for decades... **18 ZGB!

In fairness, I wish we were stagnating as bad as Reading at the moment. Although, I agree their running of the club has been far from ideal.

MSD Holdings have a charge against the stadium as security for a loan. Mel couldn't sell the club without either repaying that loan  or getting MDS's permission. I don't think they would give permission  for the club and the stadium to be owned separately. By far the most likely outcome is Mel selling the stadium and the club together. The academy, the catering company, the company developing a new roof for the stadium and the outreach company are also separate companies, Theoretically they could be retained by Mel  - although they all have charges against them to MSD as well.

Guess If that’s it for Mel that’ll be the end of the planning he had for the plaza?

I thought that the Plaza was Gadsby's baby. If I remember correctly GSE looked into it but decided the economic climate wasn't right. When Mel took over he revisited it because the planning permission was about to expire and decided that it wasn't a very good scheme anyway and binned it.

My bad thought I hadn’t heard anything about it for a while

He probably means the East Stand development.

Among other tweets stating Mel hasn't sold the club, Mel has already sold the club, Mel has sold half the club, Mel has sold and then quickly re-bought the club and Mel doesn't actually exist.

I follow him and haven’t seen any of that? Do you have screenshots?
