Having said that, both were good and probably deserve a starting berth. I thought Young was the weak link because he comes inside every time, prefer Rose however if this wasn’t England we were watching we would be highly commending the overall experience performance. StaffsRam
Glad that the sneaky camel-ducking peasants got nothing from that game. Exactly what they deserved. That being said, we were pretty poor, and still carrying far too many players who aren't really good enough (Young, Lingard etc). Trippier's set-play delivery though, wow. Also thought it was a bit non-sensical that we had a referee and linesmen from a country that our groups paired with for the last 16....seems fair... Sexydadbod
I just want to see both England and Derby play high intensity energetic, attacking football and is why I was so critical of Rowett last season, who did the opposite .England seem to be heading in the right direction, I hope Derby follow. Mafiabob
1st half thought we were fine, 2nd half we become stagnant..... Sterling and Alli we were carrying. Kane is Lineker...... roll on Panama, fair enough critique..... but come on doomers enjoy the win..... or didn’t we do it with style and entertainment. Millenniumram
Drop sterling and play like we did the first 20 minutes and we’ve actually got a chance here, not to jinx it or owt
Jourdan
A deserved victory and a lot of positives to take away. We were more impressive in that opening 45 minutes than any other major team has been against opposition of a similar standard at the tournament. It begs the question though - how many chances does one team need to score? It's no exaggeration to suggest we could and should have been 5-0 up at half time, if it weren't for terrible composure in both boxes. Everyone has seen how easily penalties have been given in the tournament so far, so Walker's defending is just inexplicably bad. But in fairness, it was a first World Cup match for almost the entire team, so perhaps nerves played a part. But at the very least it was good to see that the positive intent was there. All in all, it was a strong performance. Far from perfect - we'll pick holes in it as that's what we do - but overall, it was comfortable and that should have been reflected on the scoreboard. The trouble is that we played so well in the first half that probably we have set the bar too high. There were signs that we are going to find it hard to maintain that intensity and incisiveness over 90 minutes, so we really do need to become more clinical when we have our spells on top and are creating chances. 1of4
An inept second half performance we allowed a poor Tunisian team to control the pace of the game. Our passing was slow and mundane, we've never got at their defence. But lets not worry about that, a wins a win. Bring on Panama, though I think there needs to be a few changes to the line-up that started tonight.

Naff all to do, maybe a little disappointed with the penalty as he got a hand to it but that's being harsh. Calm on the ball. Maguire - 7. Couple of bomb scare moments in the first half but played well, very good on the ball. An absolute nightmare for other teams at set pieces, a lot of our chances including our late winner came from his initial header. Stones - 7. Decent, will be tested more in the final game. Walker - 6. Gives us a good option coming out of the back 3 and recovered a few situations well with his pace. Madness moment for the peno though so marks off for that. Young - 6.5. Ok, good in the first half but faded in the second. Henderson - 7.5. Top performance IMO, plenty of people like to jump on the hate bandwagon when he has a bad performance but you don't see many giving him due praise when he deserves it. Alli - 6.5. Good in the first half then picked up a knock, went missing after that until subbed. Trippier - 7. Good width, always an option on the ball. Delivery not as good as usual but a good solid performance. Lingard - 6. Missed a fair few decent opportunities but credit to him for getting in the positions in the first place. Sterling - 5.5. Not doing it for England at the mo, rightly replaced. Kane - 8. Wasn't in the game much but stepped up to the plate twice to win us the game. Right place, right time.. just a brilliant goalscorer. Subs: Loftus-Cheek - 7. Much needed energy and creativity when he came on. Rashford - 6.5 Similar to RLC. My MoTM: Harry Kane. Goalscorer, match winner, talisman. Trippier a close second though. needles
Good win, good performance for most of the game apart from a slack 20 minutes at the start of the second half. Their penalty never, ever, ever, was, although Walker got in a daft position and shouldn't have given the ref the opportunity to make a twit of himself. We should have had penalties twice, including two all in wrestling bouts in one incident from one set piece. Decent finishing first had and we walk off top of the group. Shame that, but all in all very pleased.
