The Football Association is set to make the historic decision to play an entire round of the FA Cup in midweek in order to secure a winter break, it can be revealed.

Oh yeah, this is gonna do wonders for fixture congestion…

Not having a winter break is just an excuse for teams in Europe and England.

In the lead up to their Champions League clash, Barcelona and Chelsea had played the same number of fixtures since Boxing Day, despite the Spanish break not having Barcelona play until January the 4th. You could argue the congestion caused by the break nullified the benefits anyway.

It'll also give teams chance to nip over to foreign parts to play in some meaningless friendly round-robin tournaments.

If this happens it should instantly be banned the following season.

Good shout.

But can we extend it just for us, so it last for 4 weeks, the whole of February.

That will hopefully get rid of our mid-Winter hoodoo.

Thus, the old saying 'ah yes but can they handle it on a Tuesday night or Saturday afternoon in Derby in February' would be rendered entirely irrelevant.

English supporters don’t like being starved of football even for one weekend !

Oh and FA cups in midweek with no replays, then give all the lower league teams home advantage!

I think the initial plan was a staggered break so Sky would still get their fixtures.

Lower league teams would rather have a big club away though. Arsenal away covered Lincoln’s wage bill for a year.

Liverpool scraping a replay against Exeter in 15/16 actually benefitted Exeter as the replay was worth ten times more to them than the tie against Wolves in the next round would have been.

It's an established fact that the only reason England haven't won the last 8 World Cups is due to us not having a winter break. Nothing will stop us now.

Damn right, these two weeks off will turn Jordan Henderson into xavi! Stops our February meltdown too- #promotion2020

Extend it to Spring and we’ll win the lot every year

Don’t worry plenty of forest players have a break from playing football every year from October, bar their cup final early January they seldom remember to play again until the next season.

Or even a few days of warm weather training to sharpen the senses, increase the team bonds and generally make sure they're in optimal shape for a winning run on their return.......

Or maybe not
