Player power strikes again

The squad have had their own way for several seasons and demonstrated their displeasure/discomfort by ceasing to commitfully to games  unless it has been in their own interest to do so.

Its one thing having a tight dressing room but it can be as negative as positive. The squad needs breaking up but this is difficult without the loan system.  Who would want to manage between a demanding / over-involved owner  and a manipulative squad of players ?

Good luck to whoever takes over the challenge.

I listened to Pearson's interview after the Blackburn game. I thought were easily the better team up to the first goal an deservedly went in front after creating some decent chances in first half.

Unfortunately, right before we scored, Pearson had subbed off Bryson and Bent for Weiman and Blackman, ie taken out one of our centre midfielders for a forward.

I'm sure this was a big factor of them scoring 2 goals in reply, although don't forget their keeper pulled of a great save just before their winner.

The low-on-confidence players looked a understandably shellshocked as well as probably wondering why the midfield had been taken off.

I came away from game feeling reasonably positive as the performance, like in the Bristol City game, had been much improved, even though we had only got 1 point from the games.

I was then surprised to hear Pearson lay into the players on the radio and wondered where the 'paralysed by fear' comment had come from. Surely that was more apt for the Lpool no-show, a performance he seemed ok with.

I can imagine the players went off after the game gutted but also a bit confused as to why Bryson was replaced with a forward.

If Pearson had gone into dressing room after match and picked them up, even taking some responsibilty for chasing the win and leaving the middle exposed, then he would still probably be here and we'd have beaten a poor Cardiff side as well.

It seems though he went into dressing room and went crazy at the players and who, even if you think are overpaid and underperforming, would be right to feel aggrieved.

If you were Mel, and a group of players came to discuss this with you, you'd obviously have a follow-up chat with Pearson. You may also ask him why Martin is out on loan, why we sold Buxton right before dropping Shackell and why a team who has been good for 3 years is now looking somewhere between average and abject.

We don't know what happened next. Depends which see-you-next-tuesday journo you read.

This whole article is a sensationalised version of previous reports. It's been reported for about a week now that the players went to Mel however it was always reported that a few senior players went to raise concerns about the level of abuse they received post Blackburn.

Nobody knows who is in the wrong here as we aren't privy to what was said in the changing room. The players may have got mardy over a bollocking or Pearson could have tried to break them down emotionally - you just don't know.

Just putting it out there... Leicester...

All the players came out last season saying how nice Ranieri was... How he'd brought them all together with sweet talk and camaraderie... Taking them all out for dinner when they won...

Won the league...

Same group of players Pearson had...

We do know he said they were paralysed with fear though, which seemed absurd.

just shows how 'unprofessional' our 'team' is.

Mel should've told them to just get on with their jobs.

After all, he had no qualms entering the dressing room that time to do the same.

Depends on what NP said to them etc. If his actions and words were unacceptable then they did right to raise it. We don't know what he actually said but none us should just get on with it if treated in an unacceptable manner by our managers. In most businesses you would raise a grievance through your HR department. The players chose to speak to Mel. Either way, the matter would be addressed and not just ignored.

Another thing is; Only three players that have remained since 13/14 and five since 14/15 would have been in that dressing room.

So immediately the idea that 'the players have been having it their way for too long' gets shot down.

"Choosing their manager's" - for about 80% of them it's only their second!

Maybe im in the minority, but I don't actually see the players uniting together as a bad thing, especially if there is just cause for it.

It's not a bad thing at all - I think people should draw a parallel to their own work lives. It's not essential for you to be BFF with your colleagues but it's important that you can work together as a team and all pulling in the same direction.

Likewise, if a team of talented individuals is not performing as their employer expects then it's not unusual to pull in a new leader to make it work. Now, if that leader comes in all guns blazing and starts throwing their weight around seemingly  without merit, it's only going to end one way and that's the exit door for that leader.

The parallel is obvious and while football is a special case, you can draw that parallel and see how we've ended up in this position. If it is true that some players felt they had to go above Pearson's head then that speaks volumes about his poor man management skills.

If they do not give 100% for the sake of the paying fans then they are a disgrace and should be got rid of...regardless of whether they are being managed by a psychopath with a screw loose.

Complain to the Chairman, ok, but do their job properly in the meantime.

How far have we dropped in the past 2 years?

I really fail to see how voicing concerns about your manager to the man above him is unprofessional. Actually if the concerns are legitimate and they've gone about it the right way, it'd be very professional. Which sounds to be the case. What sounds unprofessional is Pearson's reaction to it.

If this is true I'm disgusted, some of the players have been an embarrassment and still pick up large wage packets ! Poor players & effort from some are the common denominator. They need sorting out !

The thing is none of us know what exactly was said. Are you saying that if your boss verbally abused you, for example, you'd just take it and get on with it? The size of your wage packet compared to theirs is irrelevant. Everybody deserves a certain amount of respect regardless of how much they earn or how bad they are at their job.

If he did over step the mark then you should be disgusted with NP not the players and they acted correctly. If he firmly told them a few home truths and they threw their toys out the pram then you'd be right to be disgusted with them. The thing is, you just don't know what was said.
