Thorne & Hughes

I'm very worried about Thorne's future. If the last injury makes him slower than he was this season, he might struggle.

He doesn't have enourmous amount of speed to lose...

Hopefully it's just bones which are broken, ligament injuries are even worse.

It is just bones, he's had a rod inserted inside the bone instead of a cast as a cast causes muscle loss, he has a support boot and crutches at the moment.

Been there, done that. It still is months with crutches and muscle loss is inevitable eventho those are easy to get back. But good to hear there's no problems with ligaments.

You managed to get bone and rod into the same sentence, yet not make me snigger.

You feeling ok?

I think we need to sign a specialist player in Thorne's position. As great as he is his luck is rotten and these injuries can have a built up effect as they pile up. In terms of Hughes you would have to have rocks for brains to sell him, especially to a rival like Newcastle.

Although ambitious I don't see much wrong with having Carrick even if it's just one year

Carrick signed a new contract at Man Utd this morning and he would be far too good for the championship, in the future I could see him going back to Spurs or West Ham

Whilst we're bigging up NP's transfer dealings, how many of you lot would have been happy spending £844k on big Wes Morgan in the 2010-11 season? Now be honest.

It wasn't an outlandish fee an experienced Championship centre half, but I'd have thought that we could have done a bit better for the money - and I'd have been wrong.

I'd have also been a bit concerned at spending very close to £1m on a non-league striker.

I hope that Pearson can continue to get those judgement calls right more often than not.

I'd try and tempt Barry with a 2 or 3 year deal. Still a decent player, plenty of experience and could still have something to offer even at centre back when his legs go.

These are the threads that really confuse me. Why on earth would Thorne and Hughes not be able to play in a 4-4-2 when they're such talented midfielders and will likely have played that formation much of their lives? Have a bit of faith in two of our prize assets.

I suppose people want things to talk about now the regular season's over and the silly season has begun.

Thorne and Hughes would happily play in a 4-4-2 although both are a guilty of being cautious at times. Both players have pass percentages of around 85% for example.

Both are very intelligent, love a tackle and get stuck in. I don't see why it wouldn't work. It would take a lot of practise on the training ground though. It must be difficult to play 2-3 years in a three man midfielder to then effectively losing one.
