Ward or Dawkins.

Neither are really wingers, but that's fine. We never needed a left-winger, because our formation didn't have them, and Forsyth was our left-side width. Dawkins and Ward barely cost a packet of Wether's Originals between them, and yet we've let them go in favour of  spending more money on players who can technically play this position than anywhere else on the pitch.

Not one of the new players who can play in a left-sided attacking position can play well in the left-sided attacking position in our 4-3-3 system, meaning we either have to play someone who either struggles to perform or we have to change the system.

So from having the option of the competent but unspectacular Dawkins or Ward to chose from (but incidentally, when they played and we had 11 players in their preferred position, the football WAS spectacular), we now have the following:

£800k Russell - the only one who has proven he can play there after spells of good form in the position. Hasn't looked good all season though. Confidence player.

£2,500,000 cross-country runner, who can't control a bouncing ball or dribble

£2,500,000(?) am-I-a-winger-am-I-a-striker-or-am-I-just-Nathan-Tyson-when-not-playing-in-Reading's-specific-formation, who last touched a football with his right foot in an U9s game in 1998.

£4,500,000 winger who is the professional football equivalent of that cocky **** at school who wouldn't even pass to anyone in a game of headers and volleys

£6,000,000 bulldozer who can't pass quickly enough for the way we play, found success last season playing widest of a midfield four, which we don't play

£1,500,000 byline-hugger, looks very raw but not seen enough of him yet, early signs that there could be shades of Tito Villa in terms of his effort-to-skill ratio.

Shows how much of a curse Mel Morris' money has been when arguably our two best options for just ONE position out of 11 are the two cheapest, discarding £15,500,000 worth of "talent".

Calero been doing well lately so why not give him 15 mins sometime?

May I ask why would we give Calero 15 minutes game time whereas we have few players that are WAY ahead of him?

I was puzzled by the complete lack of Dawkins chances - perhaps something behind the scenes meant he was never fancied, although his professionalism was praised when he left.

Still, he was no more a left winger than a right one.

Sort of attacking player without a nailed down position or speciality - oh how we wish we had someone like that now................

To much ephasis is placed on this left midfielder/ left winger/ attacker Position

They're all professional footballers the majority of the players mrntioned should be able to play left wing in a 442 and left side with three up top

In recent years we & football in general have totally made up a position where a player can play one or the other but not both positions.

Ryan giggs played left wing in a 442 as did robert pires at arsenal. Both imo are wingers and attacking & both could equally play in a 442 or 433. If someone on here suggests playing russell on the left on a 442 they get shot down. "He's not a midfielder" equally though he isnt a striker or a number 10

if we play 442 its about balance. If for example we play ince on the left he needs to be up and down the line but as he cant defend he'd need a warnock behind him who cant bomb on stays back and we are not exposed. In the same breath If we played johnson on the left in a 442 we need a fozzy behind him overlapping and bombing on as johnsons less likely to get to the line. Complimenting each others weaknesses

If we play with three up top its like we have martin as the target and two number ten roles but isolated on the outside and as they were probably asked under clement to play a slower passing game and further back they were left in no mans land.

We have talent in the side but none of our players at the min complement each others game. We have made subs this season and become un-balanced ive often wondered where some players are actually playing. Its like we pick the best 11 on paper rather than a balanced side complimenting each other.

Under mac we played an 11 where each player complimented anothers game. Wisdom at rb bombed on fozzy stayed back leaving a back three & vice versa eustace would sit back allowing the other cm to bomb forward or link play or he'd sit back allowing both wingbacks forward.

At the min its like a free for all too many players doing the same job or not knowing what they are doing and not in space & we havent has a solid 11 to allow the manager to know the best team as we try different personal every game

trim the squad & have desginated roles for the 11 on the pitch... we look clueless at the min

Wieman is neither a winger or a striker and is poor and should be moved on...

Why has nobody played well there?

Because the've been isolated in a 433 but asked to play far deeper than martin also i stead of running and beating a man they've cut inside to pass it or lose the ball

but the honest answer i dont 100% know why nobody played well there probably for a number of reasons but then again im not paid £2m a year or watever PC was on to solve the problems.

Id like to see a 442

id like to see camara on the left getting to the line and getting a cross in. Id then like to butters and thorne in the middle thorne infront of the back four sitting when we have the ball & butters bombing on and creating. RM henrick  with christie overlapping to the line then ince or blackman up top with martin. One of the two closer to him for the lay offs.

Id then like to see like for like subs around one system rather than a loss of shape... Too many options too many individuals and too clueless
