And this hasn't always been the case. In fact, it wasn't too long ago we were really pacey and powerful going forward. Look at how far we pushed up against Wolves for example, getting players in to the box. Yeah, yeah, but we conceded 2. The biggest crime in football is conceding. McClaren got hooked on "clean sheets" too tbf. Avoiding defeat and waiting for our chance. What boring, negative mentality.

As has been mentioned a few times, Mel's role is to sign the cheques. Sam's role is to get the players who've been targeted. Surely it's the Manager who tells them who he wants. Inglorius
Even LVG has now realised that playing safe defensive football isn't going to get Man Utd anywhere only took him about a season to wake up mind you, hopefully Clement wont be given that long to come to the same conclusion

At least when we had the implosion last season it was entertaining lost of very high scoring draws, bar the final game though.

And he's not the number 2 it's Phillips. According to the OS, Peacock is 1st team coach, Phillips is an assistant coach, seems simple enough which one is more senior. toddy
Where does he go from here? He looks out of his depth, perhaps it is time to bring in an experienced coach while there is time left, at least we might then make the play offs. Top 2 has now gone with Hull how having a game in hand and boro 2 games in hand, I cannot see them losing 20% of their remaining games.

Inglorius
Does Clement actually watch match videos after the game, do any of his support team actually feed anything back to him after the game, does he analyse the match stats afterwards if he does then can he give me some of whatever he's on please
dantheram
You seriously think Morris isn't looking at his options now? This guys biggest achievement is going to be having a £25m warchest and creating the most dour football we've seen in years.

However, if most of this season's signings are down to PC, then we should be afraid. That said, if they aren't, we should still be afraid... Who's responsible for what these days? Why didn't we sign players who were a considerable improvement on what we had? How about this team.. Grant, Christie, Buxton, Keogh, Warnock, Thorne, Ince, Hendrick, Bryson, Russell, Martin. How much worse is that than tonight's squad? I've nothing against Butterfield, Shackell and Carson and they probably add a bit to the above - but how much better are they overall in team terms? Add Pearce, Baird, Johnson, Weimann, Blackman, Bent and Olsson [unfair to judge] to those 3 and we could just about have a good game between the two teams. Who'd win? No wonder PC doesn't know his best team/formation. We've got loads of players of similar mould and ability. Great if you're judged in terms of quantity......but you're not. Rev
- Brain dump alert - Option 1 - We could sack Clement, it seems obvious he hasn't a clue, and replace him with someone so good at management they're currently unemployed. Option 2 - We stick with him, and accept that the hand he's been dealt wasn't as good as we thought, and there's a mental weakness inherent in the current squad. Option 3 - The squad isn't the problem, just Clements lack of experience as a No.1 , and write this season off as a learning curve, give him another 17 games of experience this season before making a final judgement sometime in his 2nd year, in the hope the talent Ancelotti obviously saw in him bears fruit. Who judges the potential though? Surely the Manager. He's the expert when it comes to players otherwise it would be either Mel or Sam picking the team and tactics. If Clement goes to Sam and tells him that he needs X, Y and Z then surely he's got to trust that Clement knows what he's on about.
