eddie
My first car was an Anglia Estate - cost £50 in 1971.Even then it was expensive for boy racers drivers to get insurance, so for the first 2 or 3 years I was insured as a second driver on my father's policy with the following warning: "Have an accident which is your fault and you pay for both of us next time".Now, 44 years later, my fully comprehensive insurance is less than £180. Still never had an accident which was my fault.Smug.
i-Ram
Bright blue mini - KYS 779V - it's the only reg i remember - I used to have to stop on Milford Straight and collect the bits that had fallen off - mainly a chrome strip that ran round one side of the car - I loved that car. Insurance wasn't as big an issue then. Not much room in the back though MrsRam. I doubt you could of got too big a suitcase in?
i-Ram
Yeah I saved around 30 quid changing my occupation from engineer to factory worker, moneysavingexpert.com has a good guide on reducing your premium.I have always imagined you driving around in a three wheeler, funny that. i-Ram
You're confusing me with DEL, always wanted a Reliant Scimitar when I was a kid though.I am confused; must be my age. I always wanted an Opel Manta but my first car was a Morris Marina. Hardly a fanny magnet that car I can tell you, but once I got them in I can tell you the lock on the boot was very secure. Girlfriend has a Peugeot 208, cost a quid to add me onto the insuranceit's best having learner driver cover, she would lose her no claims bonus if you had an accident, if you have learner driver insurance it wouldn't effect her. i-Ram
Given the events of recent weeks, do you think it wise to be taking control of the wheel of a car at the moment? Will you be on BGT next knife throwing?
davenportram
I had one of these Bought for £200 in 2001 (yes it was 17 years old at the time) lasted 18 months in which I did 65,000 miles. It had done almost 200000 miles when i scrapped it.
Wolfie
First car owned: Ford Escort mark II 1.3 estate Bought for £50 from a scrapper near Bakewell and drove it round the fields on our farm. Used to take the dog with me in the evenings and have a bit of a thrash around. Needed 2 drums of gravel in the back, though, as had absolutely zero grip otherwise. First Road Car: Austin Metro 1.3 City X It used to leak and burn oil so much that it used to cost me a litre of the stuff each way driving the 90 miles to university (Lancaster). Also scrubbed front tires really bad and rusted in front of your eyes.Fun to drive, though.
ramit
Bought a 1973 Dodge Coronet with a 318 engine at a police car auction in 1978 for $375. Had to sell it a year later to pay for damages after i smashed through a 6 foot high redwood fence into someone's backyard in Pleasant Hill Calif. With one long vinyl seat in the front i learned the hard way that it's prudent to wear the safetybelt when taking tight corners while speeding like an idiot. It came fitted with hard suspension, a strengthened front end and a searchlight that could burn your eyes out at 400 yards. The cops made me remove that after a few complaints,
