Conor Sammon

Has anyone out there got a calculator that works? 11 - 9 = 2...at least get the facts correct!

The fact that he played 15 fewer games would be a worry for me too, as it would surely indicate that he is injury prone or wasn't deemed good enough to get in a team that only just managed to finish above us!

Maybe you should try using your fingers and toes; 12-9=3.

Only 6 players started more games than him; maybe the reason is that they used a squad rotation, something NC has admittted to wanting to do more often ????

Yes correct followed by 17 goals and promotion to the Premier league.

Bit pointless comparison

Pointless comparison? This whole debate has been centred around someone saying that Sammon will score more goals next season.

I was pointing out that players can recover from a bad start even if the expert fans don't think they can and choose to boo them.

Yes, that's right, Howard was quickly becoming a target for the boo boys before his 17 goals fired us to promotion.

Which would all be very good if Sharp had scored 12 and not 11!

Look it up, 12 for red dogs, 1 for southampton in the CC.

Yes Howard did have a bad start but he still scored 17 goals in the season he had a bad start.

Sammon had a bad start and scored 9 goals in the same season he had a bad start (or a bad season, depends how you look at it)

Maybe he deserves a bit longer though. I'm sure people will monitor his progress as the season unfolds.

12 toes?

Is he from Nottingham?

To be honest I am not going to read too much into Sammon/Hull speculation. Considering his price tag last season some view his first yer at Pride Park as average or below so I wouldn't imagine Steve Bruce to sign him up and lead his forward line in the premiership quite yet.

Given he needed a calculator to count to 11, then still got it wrong, maybe he is....lets see if he does a Bris and confirms it by moving the goalposts :-)

Having said that I leave myself open as I could be wrong, as it does happen,  quite often.....

Sammon 9 goals in 47 appearances and 6 assists.

Average: 1 goal every 5.2 games.

Assists : 1 assist every 7.8 games

how can anybody argue that as a striker this is good enough.

if he'd got 15 assists and been profilic in that department it would be forgivable.

to be so lacking in both is simply not good enough.

I'd love him to prove me wrong and be awesome next season, but from what I've seen I simply can't see it. he just doesn't look like a footballer.

Someone told me cup goals don't count!

So Charlie George never did score a hat-trick against Real Madrid then.

They don't when the person was quite clear in saying something like "he'll score 15 now he's got used to the championship".

So few assists to go with the poor goal tally indeed.

Martin will assist more, as will Russell and Ward and all 3 will score more.

For me Sammon should be no more than fresh legs coming from the bench.

I would agree that them stats taken as a standalone view are p**s poor.

However, if a ball is played long to Sammon, he controls (unlikely I know) and lays it off to a winger who crosses for someone else to score, then Sammon gets absolutely no credit for his part in that goal.

I would also argue that it can be hard at times to assist when you have no team mate within 20 or 30 yards of you, as was often the case during away games or late on in home games when Nigel decided he wanted to shut up shop.

Contribution to the score board says about as much about a player as candle wax on water, but ultimately people will keep spouting nonsensical nonsense until the actual numbers are posted (dates represent period over which the data is taken from, all data is from Derby County in the Championship only):

It's too early to really make any reference to Martin and players like Kuqi and such really didn't appear that much (although Varney is included). For a bit of flavour, here are some other records:

Take from that what you will.

I'm certain he'll get a better return next year, 12 goals would be my prediction.

You have to remember as well though that it's not like he had loads of chances. I remember someone on here saying he only had 50 shots over the course of the season (just over 1 a game!) which is terrible for a striker. As long as it's drilled into him that he needs to shoot more, I see no reason why his goal tally shouldn't improve either.
