If Keough had relied on employment law he would have got nothing. He relied on EFL Law which is that if the club is Derby County you are guilty until proven innocent , and even then you are guilty.

Well yes. A proper journo would have asked.. "So Richard you were the only person who was injured out of the four people you say were in the car? Why do you think that might have been? Was it perhaps because you were not wearing a seat belt?"
"Will the people who lost their jobs this week from Derby County be getting £2 million payouts after self inflicted injuries that prevent them from doing their jobs anyway?"
"Why are you coming out with this stuff now, could it have anything to do with the fact that you are worried your big windfall might be at risk if Derby go up in smoke?"
"How many games have you played in the Premier League Richard?"
"Isn't £2.3 milion rather a lot of money for a player of such limited ability , even if you had been paid for playing instead of paid for inflicting on yourself an injury of you own making?"

These are the sorts of questions I would be asking.

    Yes.
He's not allowed to take his wand in on matchdays, as he could use it as a weapon.
He's also banned from casting spells whilst on licensed premises.
... and if he bores us all with his "I remember when King Arthur once said to me..." just once more, I swear I'll kick his bloody 4r5e!

Was in London on Thursday and spoke to a couple of Rapid Vienna fans in town for the West Ham game. I wished them good luck and said I was a DCFC fan. Their response was 'ahhh Wayne Rooney coach. Minus 12 points. Good result yesterday 1 0'. If it wasn't for his name and status worldwide I don't think these fans from Austria would have known anything much about our club! Says it all really.

Keogh has taken no responsibility for what happened at the Joiners Arms. He suffered an injury that was not football related, it didn't happen on a football pitch or training ground. Meaning he couldn't fulfill his contract. So the club ultimately terminating his contract, after he rejected taking a reduced wage till he was fit to play. Still can't see where the club did anything different than a lot of employers would have done.

He really hasn't done himself any favours there has he?
Before this I think there was maybe a 65/35 split, which seems to be 90/10 now.
While I did actually have some sympathy with Keogh initially every word he's said since the incident has turned me against him. Not that he cares with his massive wedge of unearned wonga.
With all the legal issues and repercussions out of the way, the way he still refuses to show any form of contrition at all and offers no apologies to the people he let down is galling.

Im no expert in employment law. However, if I was to go out drinking and put myself into a situation with my work colleagues where I ended up injured and unable to do my job for many months Im pretty sure id expect to lose my job.

I don't agree that employers should be responsible for for nurturing and shielding of their employees outside of the working environment/hours, which that evening was.
It was not a team event.  It was a social event... voluntary... outside of working hours... outside of working jurisdiction... the aftermath of a team event, which had already ended.  (The club of course, did not order all full grown adults to immediately go home, and go to bed, at 8pm!)
If you organised a works pi$$ up, that would have no relevance to this situation, as it was not a works pi$$ up.  See above.

Club should have been smarter than to leave itself vulnerable to being successfully sued by him, but this is a shoddy piece of journalism.
At no stage does the author question whether any of this is untrue.
Which most of it is! There are literally videos and photos from the night in competing papers that say otherwise.
I feel bad for his mental health issues, but i question whether the life coach is helping him to improve as a person if he is happy to front up to a national paper and lie to keep his career going.
For me, not welcome at the club again  while I'm a fan.

The only other thing I'm going to say is that if his team captain (and "good friend") didn't know that, at that time, Tom Lawrence had a drink problem related to his mental health issues, then I'm the Queen of Romania.

I always liked Keogh and I’m glad he’s in a much better place. However, I thought part of the healing process was to account for your mistakes - and he hasn’t.
A few of the lines from the interview just don’t add up. We’ve all been to Joiners Arms, it’s absolute baalocks that he wouldn’t have known what Lawrence was doing. Not to mention the video of half the team watching Bennett throw up in the urinal. Therefore, as we know that is absolutely undeniable ********, it casts doubt over everything else he’s claiming.
It’s not even close to being the worst mistake anyone has ever made in the world, and he got his money, so why even come out with this obvious propaganda!

The points an independent industrial tribunal would have considered most salient are "could he have prevented the injury to himself and could he still do his job?"
They would undoubtedly have found for the club.
That the EFL Player Related Dispute Commission found for the player is no big surprise and is actually a travesty of justice! Interesting that on this occasion the EFL itself had agreed with us.

They would all have been treated the same if they all had been able to fulfill their contracts or all NOT fulfill. Two could, one could not. The one who could not was offered a temporary reduction in pay, a salary that 99% of us could only dream of, he was offered full medical support and physio to recuperate. This wasn’t good enough for him. He only won his case because he went to the EFL. No employment tribunal would have offered full loss of earnings. Ni sympathy fro me.

But that isn't the point. They were all guilty of misconduct so the club were entitled to sack them all.. and also entitled to make a commercial decision to keep them all, notwithstanding their conduct.. which they did but in Keogh's case that meant reduced terms which he refused.
The proper legal test is whether the conduct was bad enough to warrant dismissal.. and for professional footballers to go out and get drunk and break the law I would say in all cases yes it was .
The "optics" as the Guardian rather unfortunately puts it are irrelevant. The optics for Keogh was that he was club captain on a team bonding session.. saying he didn't know Lawrence had been drinking is just pure tosh. You spent the evening on a team bonding session and you are leaving a pub and in any case as I say he was club captain, it his job to watch over players.
