    This.
He made mistakes learning on the job last year, he might make a few more, but considering the bum hand he’s been dealt, he’s showing his leadership and fighting characteristics in one. He doesn’t flap, he’s not moaning, just getting on with the job.
What is clear, the players believe in him and are not just playing with pride, they’re actually implementing his tactics remarkably well, given the threadbare nature of our squad. For all Rooney has done wrong, lacking maturity at times, he’s actually proving a good mentor to our youngsters and the whole team are responding to his tactics.
Going to be a long season, but Rooney comes across with far more sincerity, than anything we’ve heard from the boardroom in a long while. His comments on the staff losing jobs for me were both heartfelt and genuine.
Whatever happens, his stock is rising amongst Derby fans and rightfully so. Keep up the good work Wayne ?
We as fans should believe in him.

My respect and admiration for this guy increases every day.  Not one of us would be surprised if he walked but no, he remains, fighting.  It's no wonder he achieved what he did as a player.  And it's no wonder we see the team, to a man, fighting for him.

When he first said his job was to bring the dignity and pride back to the club a while ago, I raised an eyebrow, particularly given what happened later that evening.
Wayne Rooney has many talents, but I thought that was something of a stretch.
Yet in a time of crisis, it turns out he is actually a real leader, and has the emotional depth and intelligence to become a figurehead.
I wanted him gone last season, even started a thread saying so, but recent events have made me re-evaluate his contribution.
He's the leader of the resistance, and today was a test he pulled off with aplomb.
More tests lie ahead, somehow this might not be the darkest moment, but I now see we've got a steady hand on the tiller.

    Rams players 'had no information'
..."I spoke to (chief financial officer) Stephen Pearce after, but initially I saw it on the TV," Rooney said.
"This morning it was a bit flat because, by me not getting all the information, the players had no information and they saw it on Sky as well.
"I haven't spoken with Mel. I am sure he has got other things on his mind.
"I've had no contact with Mel for a while now so it's been very difficult for me to address the fans when I don't know what the situation is.
"All we can do is play with a lot of pride. My job is to bring some dignity back to the club.
"I've said a few times I'm committed to this club and to the group of players and the staff, I care about them, so I'll keep doing everything I can to help us get through this.
"I think we will get through this for the better. We are going to have tough times ahead in the near future but it's my job now to start rebuilding this club and trying to put it back together."

I think he is growing in his role as manager and as a person. He’s got my full respect and more importantly of the dressing room they are giving everything for him. ???

Well he certainly deserves a crack with some stability around him in my opinion.
Admittedly, he cheesed me off last season, the Cardiff/Coventry away games spring to mind but there were others, oh Rotherham away was a bad one too but I’m impressed he’s got us into double figures already this season and if you take into account the blunders you can’t legislate for this season that are in no way down to Rooney, we could have been bothering the top 6 at this early stage.
I think it’s a remarkable turn around when you add the deceit he has had to deal with since his appointment.
Hey, you could have been right all along Roy?

The thing that struck me was how I think he said he found out at 7.43pm. That is so precise. He obviously cares especially about the staff. I have been impressed and so far he does seem to be someone you see the best of in a real crisis.

Yes, I think it is too easy to dismiss Rooney the 'media caricature'. I am a fan and hope he turns into as good a manager as his promise suggests. It's a long road but I hope we get chance to find out.

Even my wife, who has no interest in football, commented on Rooney’s concern for the staff who inevitably will become collateral damage in all this. I thought he spoke with humility and sincerity about the staff and I’m giving him bonus points for the beautifully crafted dig at the shyster’s running of the club.

You’re right Roy. What pleases me more than anything and regardless of results is that these players work for their manager. To reverse and old cliche …. He has the dressing room. That counts way more than 4312 433 or overlapping wing backs

It's a tremendous statement from Wayne. We all know he's been a bit silly in his (near) past, who hasn't. But there is no doubting his commitment to the people at the club. Hopefully we will see his ability as a manager blossom too.

    Well said, Mr Rooney.
His role as a leader has already transcended his role as manager of a football team.
And it has clearly demonstrated to Morris what leadership actually is.

I'm fed up with the current Wayne Rooney thread so am continuing on this one. There's an article in the Telegraph to quote from:
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2021/09/18/Derby-county-temporarily-lift-gloom-victory-stoke-administration/
"Rooney revealed he only found out the news on Friday night at his Knutsford home, while also admitting he had not spoken to owner Mel Morris for weeks...It’s a very difficult and emotional moment for everyone,” he said. “We’re going to have tough times ahead in the near future but it’s my job to start rebuilding this club.

“If it is nine or 12 points [deducted] we might have a chance [of survival]. If it goes beyond that then we might have to start preparing for League One as well. We have to look at every possibility, and treat it very seriously.

“I’d imagine there will be staff members who will lose their jobs, who have mortgages and bills to pay. To have that snatched away from them is heartbreaking.

“These fans deserve my full attention and I’ve got to make it a more attractive club for potential investors to come in. It’s important to get the right people to run this club properly.”

Living in Hampshire, Reading is often mentioned as one of the regional teams.
You've had your share of iffy owners I think - was it some Thai consortium that were hoping to develop the land around the madewski?
Anyway, thanks for good wishes and hope your club comes through also. ?

    Hey All,
I heard this news earlier. I don't know much about the history of how you got to this stage but I know that it's due to mismanagement and really poor conduct by owners. I also heard Rooney earlier say he heard about the Administration when watching TV.
I was gutted to hear this latest update. I like Derby - although that's not really the point at the minute...
I think the point that I wanted to make is that every single football fan really needs to take notice here. It could be there club next. It doesn't matter if they're your biggest rivals, you hate the club, etc.. it's more than that. I'm sick of seeing rich owners come in, playing at being a chairman, making poor decisions or taking risks and then putting the whole club in jeopardy. I'm also sick of the rest of the footballing world just ignore it and almost watch on with mild interest to see what happens. We're all football fans first and foremost and clubs like yours and others have been around well over a hundred years and form a huge part of the community.
It's the fans that really suffer here. Not to mention the staff, those in back office roles, canteen staff, cleaners, car park attendants, maintainance people, etc...
Anyway, I hope that there is some better news for you soon although I realise things look bleak. I know you're going to try to negotiate on the points deduction, either way hopefully there's some clarity and closure on that so you at least know where you stand and can focus on football.
Great result today as well (at least that's one positive!)

Wow. What a day. It was special. A day I will never forget. 17,000 Derby fans but it may as well have been 30,000 such was the noise and every fan 100% behind the team and the coaching staff.
Then the game. What a performance. Some superb counter attacking and glimpses of real quality. Ravel at times today (especially in the first half) was equal to Stefano Eranio   with those passes in the box, magical. Stunning goal from Max Bird who was also outstanding in the first half (what a player he is). Baldock should’ve scored, Ravel should’ve scored, we should’ve been 3-0 up and out of sight but then the Ince goal made it nervy. That said never had any doubts we would close it out. To a man the players were superb today and showed they care. Likewise Rooney and Rosenior.

I was in tears at full time, so proud of all of them and for the fans unbelievable support of them. It felt like we’re in this together. duck the rest of the football world, duck Mel Morris, no bitching about 3 wins in 20 odd and Rooney isn’t the right man. Everyone backing the team backing the coaches backing the club, backing each other - as one. It was truly special.
Its to be a part of days like today is why I’m a football fan and why I love this club so dearly. It will be a bumpy road but if we stick together we will come back stronger!!
    COYR!! ?????????

Just in from a phenomenal afternoon at pride park (had to drop the number 1 son back at Nottingham uni afterwards)
Almost had us in tears at the start of the game as the crowd was the loudest and proudest I've ever heard it and the players reacted to it as soon as they came down the tunnel...even they were in awe of the noise and the stoke fans were immediately shocked into silence.
Immensely proud of the team today who all fought like lions and of all of the fans who continued to be relentless in their support.
I love this club and I'll support it whatever is thrown at us and wherever we end up.

Been at the match and was so so proud of how everyone conducted themselves. The players are really playing for each other and putting bodies on the line for the cause, the manager got his tactics right and then there was the support. It was rocking at the end. Relief, joy, laughter was abound. We were all on the same wavelength today. The players, management and supporters are truly pulling out everything to keep this club in business. Long may it continue. Very very proud to be a Ram. This is what this city is to football. We need to stay afloat and the league needs our great club. From a very hoarse Ram! COYR.

If the EFL want a relegation place sorted in September it’s 21 points or more if they are remotely concerned with the integrity of the competition it will be 12 in total
Remember they openly stated that they want us relegated so you can make your mind up
