Lets be honest, the clean sheet was a touch fortunate. They did hit the post and accumulated 1xg to our 1.2xg, as well as having more shots.
The 3 goals were good quality, but the problem is that there is just no pattern of play to either our attacking or defending. We just completely rely on moments of brilliance from a NML or Bird for example. It's identical in that regard to Didzy last season. We are basically the man utd version of league one. No identity, no pattern of play, fairly boring to watch, heavily reliant on moments from individuals, and just getting enough results to keep us near the top.

    Why can’t you believe it?
Next season in the Championship the odds will be stacked against us. Unlike in League One, we won’t have the best players and we won’t have the biggest budget.
Therefore we will need good coaching to succeed. Warne isn’t a good coach.
You only have to look at the top sides in the Championship currently. They are all the best footballing sides, the ones who dominate the ball.
Rotherham, Huddersfield, Sheff Wed, Millwall and Birmingham are the five teams with the lowest possession in the Championship. They make up five of the bottom seven. QPR (16th) and Stoke (12th) are the others.
The top five are Leicester, Southampton, Leeds, Sunderland and Hull - teams who make up the top 8.
Where do you think we will be under Warne averaging 40-45% possession per game?

Our problem is that our home fans - absolutely rightly - would not be happy with 30% possession at home in a third division game

Chris_Martin reacted to IlsonDerby in xG - hype or valuable stat?
    Rubbish.

Shots on target/shots assume each shot is just as likely to go in which leads to people assuming ‘more shots = better performance’. xG rightfully builds on that over simplified view and looks at the quality of chances rather than just quantity of chances. I can’t see how anyone can say it’s not a useful metric.

Surely moved past smarmy pundits giving it the ‘the only stat that matters is the goals scored stat’ large.

It was clear from xG that despite derby not having the results we’d like under Rosenior we were creating quality chances that we simply weren’t taking. (The eye sight test would tell you that Collins had a howler of a start to last season but xG took the emotion out of those claims that we were a boring team that didn’t attack. We did. We attacked very well. We just couldn’t hit a barn door).
Whereas Rotherham were massively over performing against their xG at the start of last season and eventually started falling like a stone with only the over performance at the start of the season keeping them up ultimately. They regressed back to where their underlying stats said they should have been.

A few people on here use the ‘let Warne get us out of the division’ argument.
I remember a similar argument with regards to Billy getting us out of the Championship.
He did the job but, because he’d drummed a negative anti-football mindset into the players, we were then  ill equipped for what laid in what and, despite a few transfers, produced a team that is now the butt of everyone’s jokes.
Are we so happy that the mindless tactics and negative thinking, I.e., setting up to nullify the mighty Shrewsbury at home, may cause irreparable damage that our players may not easily recover from, even if we bought in some new faces.
Short-term, ‘just get us up Warnie’ thinking may only kick-the-can down the road to next season where we’re languishing at the bottom of the championship.
Ipswich from last year should be our model, try and get some sort of footballing philosophy going that you can build on if/when you move upwards; although I do accept they had a transfer kitty last season, and that, of course, helps.
But, back to my point, negative short-termist win-at-all-costs football may set us up for more pain in the long run and anyone who thinks we can use Warne to get us promoted, sack him and bring someone else in, must realise that the damage is already being done.
He seems like a nice guy and I’ve got nothing against him personally, the irony is that ‘failed’ football managers get such juicy payoffs that they don’t have to worry so much about the things us ‘ordinary folk’ do; so they don’t really lose in the end.
I’m going tomorrow night and I just wouldn’t mind seeing a bit of good football from the Rams, it’s not loads to ask for is it 🤷‍♂️

It does seem that the club does have a very , very short term plan . On entry to the Championship , our first 2 signings  should be Knight and Bird .

When was the last time all three relegated Championship teams weren't challenging for promotion the following season?

You missed the point in your need to 'attack' the poster. So like Warne or not, when chopping and changing 'system' signings etc. It's that Clowes budget unlike Mels is limited, so to waste it is tantamount to 'throwing good money after bad'.

Its not helpful to ignore caveats regarding how well the team is doing on a topic regarding how well the manager is doing.
I agree, views and opinions are meant to be shared on the forum. You wouldn't think that recently given the vitriol directed at anyone who expresses any sort of negative opinion of Warne.
All I did was highlight something obvious everyone's ignoring. What's wrong with that?

if you want to put that narrative on it then ok.
However, we are 2nd (or 3rd) in the league realistically because the league has been so poor this season. In any normal season we would absolutely not be. The target for the season was automatic promotion (as stated by warne in pre-season) and if we are only just hanging on to that playing against this level of opposition, what chance do we have if we go up to the championship? Where is the long term planning? What are we building towards? I still don't even know what our team is, what's the identity?
