Because we're a different club to 6 years ago. There isn't a chance Clowes would blow all our budget on one player. Not a chance.

Plus getting him in on a 3 year deal. 500k spread over 3 years isn't a lot. Even if he ends up going for free at the end. But at the very worst, Derby could break even.

1 good player is better than 2 average players.

Love clowes for saving the club but obvious to see he’s repaired a broken car with elastic bands doesn’t have the money to run derby long term or at least spend anything. Never going to be a weaker league 1 or a better opportunity for to get promoted. I’m not saying spend millions on transfers but couple hundred thousand on players shouldn’t be out of our remit

Is it your opinion that the owner should throw money away into the club then? I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with you - just checking that is your position?

Im frustrated as well - Clowes Developmets do have money and thus therefore so could DCFC if they wanted to.

In Peterboroughs case its all about Ivan Toney, they receive 30% of the sell on fee. Assume that's 80 million or more.

Their owner confirmed on Twitter they have nowhere near 30% as a sell on fee. I think it’s closer to 10% but that’s still a massive payday potentially.

A million times better than it was the other year when we were in administration

It's January btw. How's your lawn holding up?

Quite well considering I don’t have electric heaters on it for 12 hours a day, undersoil hearing, being cut once a day and forked every second hour with a full time labour team.

  5. OK - different chat rather than the “Will Bird go?” Chat.

For me the condition of the pitch this season has deteriorated. Not sure if it’s the excessive rain over the last 4-6 weeks or not but it doesn’t seem to be as good as it was in the past.

I also noticed we’ve stopped watering the pitch pre-game. This was even before the current rain we’ve had. I wonder if that is an intentional aspect from Warne or not?

  6. More and more I’m beginning to think we can improve on Bird. More from a perspective of assists and goals and breaking into the box which for me is not his game.

Depends on whether Warne wants to play more of a 4-4-2 or a 4-1-4-1/4-2-3-1 with Bird being a number ten, as he’s not a number 10.

Just seeing a number of potential targets on here being mentioned and we could get two of them for a million each and sell bird for two million.

  7. Also - in football transfers, very rarely does much of it get paid up front. If we sell for £4 million, I’d be shocked if we got more than £2 million up front.

That means we have less to play with ourselves to try and entice transfers to us.

Simply - he’s the most important player we have. Do not sell if we want to finish top two.

If it's £4m up front I think we have to take it. That's a massive amount for a League One club, in this post-Covid era. It's also fair to Cashin and shows the other players if they do well, they can go to the Premier League. We've known of Brighton's interest since the summer so we should have a decent list of names ready and waiting. I remember when we sold Christian Dailly for a ridiculous fee to Blackburn, we bought Spencer Prior for peanuts just before the Dailly deal was announced. That would be the strategy here so the price we pay isn't inflated by any Cashin deal.

Or it could also be the difference between another season in League One or going up.

We absolutely should reject. Activate the contract extension and let him go in the summer if we don’t go up.
