vonwright reacted to SKRam in Francis Lee
So sad to hear that death of the man who brought me to Derby County.
Rest well Franny thanks for the memories

This is part of the problem for me. The new right back was signed as a last minute stopgap to replace Rooney, now Warne has figured out we have to play four at the back because he signed the wrong centre backs for the system he planned to play. In the meantime we spent summer signing not one but two right-sided wing backs. They have no obvious place in this new tactical set up.
Fornah was also last minute because it apparently wasn't clear to Warne during the summer that we needed more mobility and steel in midfield.
We didn't add any guile up front, because he didn't see that as a priority either. We signed Washington, who doesn't seem to fit in any system, and Waghorn (almost by accident).
Its taken a year to hit on the right overall formation and our recruitment this summer was for something else entirely.

Genuinely at what point aren't we a work in progress? What points in this division would be unexpected? We've won 2 of the last 13 at home I believe with 11 goals scored. That's really not good enough. I think many fans are starting to have enough of the turgid Warne ball which is being served up.

vonwright reacted to Ghost of Clough in Can anyone actually name a single improvement Warne has done since arriving?
He would fail, playing bad football (based on the games so far this season), whilst having one of the biggest playing budgets in the league (if not the biggest).
Mac had the 13th highest wage bill in 13/14 (9th highest revenue) and made a profit on transfers that season. Wages in that season (£13.5m) won't be much higher than the budget Warne has this season in League 1!!!
In 14/15, the wage bill still remained at most levels, and we weren't anywhere near the top clubs for transfer spend, despite buying Thorne and not receiving any significant fees from departures.
Remarkably, Lampard's wage bill would have been 7th-10th (a lot of clubs close to our estimated figure) and around 9th for revenue

vonwright got a reaction from DavesaRam in Warne: what would it take?
Think people are really harsh on Rooney. He was managing when everything was falling apart, squad stripped and no budget. He threw together a bunch of academy kids and no-one-wants-them loanees and got really impressive results. We finished with a much better record than the previous season and would have comfortably survived but for the huge points deduction. There was even a time where we thought we might do the impossible, before the number of matches caught up with a small and very young squad.
Oh, and somehow Rooney kept a sense of calm and purpose despite all the off-pitch drama.
I'll always remember him well.

It's strange people can't see this.
The 'Warne out' people think that getting rid of Warne will lead to more success for the club in the medium to long term than the alternative.
The 'Warne in' people think that sticking with Warne will lead to more success for the club in the medium to long term than the alternative.
I imagine if both sets of people were suddenly granted the ability to see into the future - could see where we would be under Warne in another year or two, say - then they'd probably agree about the right course of action now.
We disagree over Warne because we disagree over whether he will be good or bad for the club going forward. We don't disagree on what we want: success, a thriving club, a return to better times.
We all support the club, we all want the club to win.

What utter nonsense. Everyone at the club has talked of winning promotion this season as the aim. Warne has even targeted top 3. Our budget at the very least is top 6, and a chance of it actually being the highest wage bill in the league this season. We are 8 games in, sit 9th in the table thanks to an over reliance on set pieces and Waggy magic, whilst performing more like a bottom half side not far off the relegation spots.
Anything less than promotion this season is a failure.

It's ok to want a different manager (I'm in the he's on borrowed time camp) but also to fully support the team at games.
Those positions aren't mutually exclusive.

That's my take - all he really cared about was immediate (or near immediate) promotion, then worry about the long term once we were in the championship. (Maybe at that point selling the club to a richer, more ambitious owner.) Not necessarily the route I'd have preferred, but fine as far as it goes.
It does all depend on us actually getting promotion, though

vonwright reacted to Comrade 86 in Warne: what would it take?
It's not binary though, is it? The entire premise overlooks a bracket into which I'd wager the largest sector of fans fall. The pro and out camps on here just seem the most prevalent because they make the most noise.
My hunch is that a largest number of fans are simply undecided and want to see how Warne progresses with this set of players; others may be concerned that if we are not successful this season, compensation for the remainder of Warne's 4 year contract may not even be viable; doubtless others just think that sacking managers without affording them the chance to build their own team is braindead and what got us here in this mess in the first place; there's probably even some who wonder how we'd look with a squad less injury stricken. Let's be clear about this; none of those views necessarily constitute them being pro-Warne, nor do any render them happy clappers.
Bit of a tangent maybe, but let's be honest here; it's dead easy to say drop the gaffer, pay the compo and find us someone better when it's not you that's footing the bill. It's not nearly so easy when you've already spaffed £52 million saving the club in the first place.

Looks like another painful day for Hull fans with a painful away win at Stoke likely to take them to a painful fourth.

I suspect clowes knows such wilful blindness isn't how good businessmen operate, even if you don't.

it always felt like we gambled with a long term budget on players with 1 or 2 year deals on big money.
i think you look at the outgoings this season and money reinvested it backs this theory up in my opinion, we had to go up last year

I guess Clowes didn't want a project? Water under the bridge an all, but I still don't get how there seems to have been no consideration to the type of football we'd see under Warne.
