Because of the EFL case! Their case was that simply by filing the accounts with the amortisation method we used was breaking the rules, how could we file new accounts when we had no idea until the conclusion of this case whether we could or could not use that method?

The EFL can argue all they want that they didn’t understand the application of the method, but they certainly understood the implications of it. That email (to himself) is a plain as day, they knew that there was the potential for being a large charge in the last year of the contract.

The EFL don’t seem to care about the impact that this will be happening to members of staff employed by Derby county football club because if we are ultimately forced into relegation through fair or foul means we will immediately have to make between a third or half of the staff redundant.

Unfortunately we do seem to have a very peculiar subset of supporters who will always look to do their own club down and simply join in with others slagging it off.
Ooooh sub-optimal supporters, they can be the new half fans!
I'm sure we're nothing special in that regard though, every club must have them.
We can definitely be critical of how Mel Morris has handled the club, but not to the point of excluding basic decency and certainly not to the point of actually being supportive of people taking action against him and the club.

Exactly this. We are not the sneaky villains we are portrayed as outside the club. We have genuinely tried within the rules as written to compete to the absolute best of our ability.

But they were of the belief, as were their auditors, that they did do the accounts ‘properly’.
It does not mention how you’re supposed to account for amortisation, they believed they were fine within FRS102 to do it as they did, the original IDC decision vindicated this, yes I know the appeal has since gone against them, however what that should show you is that it is not at all clear cut, it seems to boil down to a difference in opinion.

I don't think their potential appeal is against our to be re-submitted accounts I think its against the £100k fine. In other words they could appeal today if they wanted.

I can understand why other clubs are laughing at us right now but they won't be laughing when they are next.
The EFL is supposed to be a democracy, where clubs have a say in their own futures. Instead it's more like mob justice that instigates witch-hunts against its own member clubs to purify the leagues. It's insane

Your phrase "Not that they need to bother as dragging this out effectively sends us down anyway " is totally spot on. They know we are not getting a points deduction now for these issues so paralysing us in terms of takeover and a squad rebuild is their way of making sure we get one anyway effectively and then going after another if refiled accounts mean we breach FFP. Ensuring we are weak next season so a, say, 12 point deduction would be something we cant get over on the pitch. Spiteful and petty

“The Club is disappointed that the EFL has not, as is usual, waited until after the publication of the Disciplinary Commission’s reasons nor agreed a statement with the Club and in addition has chosen to be selective about the Decision and present it in a form which omit key dates and details, which the Club has provided by way of clarity above.”
This and the timing of their statement shows how truly vindictive the EFL are. Shocking.

They wont. They are doing it all for show to try and appease yet another club that has complained about us.

Interesting that the EFL omits the dates that the commission gave. We have until 18 August to submit accounts - after the start of the season. It would be absolute chaos if we submitted on 18 August, and the EFL then claimed we were in the wrong division having already played Championship fixtures.

So we don't even have to submit the accounts until 11 days after the season has started, so why the EFL even bothered to put two fixture lists out is beyond me.
    The EFL are completely mental.

You’d like to think so wouldn’t you, especially if we’d have been under the limit anyway with the recalculated accounts, as during the 3 years in question it would have made zero difference, if that’s the case.
But we’re talking about the EFL, and they seem to like to ask for maximum punishment, that’s what I’m saying, I expect them to do that, I don’t expect the DC to agree with them though.

Isn't that what the Mail is doing too, though, and some posters seem to be hanging on their every word?
If people are going to believe stuff they read, they can't just decide they'll only believe the negative stuff about Derby.
I posted the article, not because it is necessarily any less speculative than the Mail ones, but at least it is a bit more positive!
