We're not the ones out on the pitch! I thought the crowd sounded well up for it last night. That's how it sounded anyway.
The players are sent out and set up in such a way that you have no idea how good they really are! Look how Warne made Jason Knight look last season, fans were saying he was rubbish! 😄
There's a reason we look an ordinary League 1 team, that is how we are set up and managed!
An ordinary league 1 team 😂 we’re second with very good goal difference.

Next season we will have worse players is the depressing statement and the better players of a football are leaving or wanted away from Warneball for whatever reason given - McGoldrick to Notts county in a league below, Knight and Bird to Bristol city for goodness sake whilst NML has kept us away from the bottom half of this league of dreadful non football
I don’t think they’re fair examples. McGoldrick made it very clear he’d always wanted to finish his career at Notts County. Knight and Bird are young players who are better than League 1 and I highly doubt they would have stayed in League 1 if their best mate was the Manager

You can count on one hand the games we’ve actually really dominated this season. It’s not good enough.
This turgid approach to football will see us finish rock bottom of the championship next year even if we do manage to drag ourselves across the line because ultimately we won’t be able to rely on having better players.
I don’t really know what to say to this. To my mind, it seems very dramatic. Were we ever likely to dominate many games in league 1 where everyone is pretty gash? We have the second best goal difference in the league which does suggest we’ve been dominant relative to the league. What exactly do you think will happen if we replace Warne? We win every game from now until the end of the season 3-0?
If we do go up, I don’t doubt next season will be poor because, as you say, we will have worse players. We will probably finish in the bottom half. That’s what happens when you have worse players.

Just to say...this is what Paul Warne said on Radio Derby “We haven’t played well all season “ I never heard it but other posters did
I think he’s mentioned that we have more to give but I think it’s a bit disingenuous to suggest Paul Warne thinks we have played badly all season. I think your struggle to find a manager who would willingly say “that is the best we can be” they’re always gonna waffle on about having more gears

Okay, I'll be that guy...
Were we terrible tonight?! I don't think so. To my eye we looked the better team and should have won. Not inspiring by any stretch but still the better side with more than enough opportunities to take 3 points.
On Saturday at Barnsley we were equal to them.
I accept we play a fairly pragmatic brand of football under Warne, it's not my idea of entertaining football but not every dropped point has to be used as a stick to beat him with. It's league 1 in the winter, it's going to be ugly at times.
Some people's expectations feel unrealistic given all the circumstances. We are not going to win every game playing total football. People calling for him to be sacked whilst we're second in the league or because their crystal ball says we'll be crap in the championship is frankly bizarre!
I agree that he has to stop tinkering with 3 at the back and stick with some version of 4-3-3 but I don't see that as the primary reason we lost tonight.
We are still second, it is still all to play for.
Tin hat on.
Well said, mate. Completely agree.

Well one game every now and then would be nice.
Don’t be silly. We’ve played well in lots of games. Lots of teams have had periods of poor form. Everyone raved about Portsmouth- they were naff over Xmas. Everyone raved about Peterborough- they’ve dropped off the face of the earth.
Both Derby and Bolton are currently in a mini slump. Not the end of the world. All will look rosy again on Saturday when we batter Port Vale

Can’t believe the negativity on this thread again. It’s really crazy if you ask me
Did everyone think we were going to win every game or play fantastic football in every game? I just don’t understand the levels of expectation

I think there’s a good chance that none of those kids (except Bradley) will play many minutes for the rest of the season. Probably a decent bet that they will largely end up plying their trade well below the premier league
None of them actually did anything to suggest they’re actually good. They just ran around and were played out of necessity
my point being I don’t think it’s fair to use as a representation of how many youth players should be brought through at any club
(That said, I do think Warne could make more use of the academy than he has this season)

Not the Top 20 podcast briefly questioned why Sibley hasn’t kicked on since being the star of Derby’s “fabled 2019 youth team”.

I guess there are always a few players, even up to under-21 level, who are never going to be viewed as potential first team material, but have a role to play 'making up the numbers' to allow the better talents to have a platform to develop.
I just hope that some are considered future first team material and we actually see some debuts in the coming years as the academy emerges from the ashes of admin

Are their careers nosediving though or is just proof that Derby are making the right decision to let them go?
Struggling to think of many that we have let go that have gone on to higher levels.
Emil Riis currently plays for Preston. Callum Guy has been very impressive in the last few seasons, albeit mostly in League 2
Arguably Morgan Whittaker has gone on to show us he’s worth more than we thought but the club might argue selling him was a good option at the time.
Can't think of any other obvious ones tbf

Maybe their focus was Cashin and Bird and, now they’re resolved, they’ll focus on Sibs and Tommo
I do vaguely remember Warne discussing it very early in the season and was surprised to hear him say something like “sibs knows that if he performs we can have that conversation” (re a contract) and will be shocked if they don’t try and re-sign him. Like I said previously, excellent player still full of potential even if he hasn’t reached the level of Cash and Bird

I’d like to see them both retained as part of the squad, I think it’s important we still have some of the academy graduates from the last few years with Bird now following Knight out the door.
Yeah and I still think they can be really good championship players. Both only 22. Would be silly to allow them to leave. Exactly the sort of players we would want the club to sign ie young with some pedigree and lots of potential

Not heard anything about Sibley being offered a contract 🤔 same for Thompson
Pretty sure they’re both up in 2024. Be surprised if we didn’t offer them terms

Morgan Whittaker now joint top scorer in the championship 👏

I actually think Exeter were a really good endorsement for Warne’s more pragmatic style last night
Played lovely football right up to our third and were then clueless. I think, at this level, it’s really hard to find players who are going to pass it through a tight defence. At any level really.

@Jram as the topic creator, would you be happy for me to close this topic, moving forward with a topic simply called “Paul Warne”.
We’re seeing similar posts depending on the result in both. A singular place to discuss the manager under a neutral title.
The same question will be asked in the alternative threads.
Yeah, no worries 👍🏻

We’re 46th in the football league. Outrageous with this squad. Warne out
Let the mental gymnastics on other threads begin…

Is there a reason they’re completely ignoring CBT 🤔

For some reason I went to see Exeter play Forest Green last season and they were amazing. I tipped them (in my own head, nobody actually asked my opinion) for play offs this season and was secretly very pleased with myself. They’ve been much worse than all that so let’s hope we batter them

Really gripping. Thought the first one the cops were all horrific but the second one I was totally on the cops’ side and thought none of the incidents warranted any discipline
How that lady thought police officers would know her son had a brain bleed from him saying he had a headache, I’ll never know 🤔

Well Man City look a pretty ordinary premier league team sometimes. They’re still an exceptional side who’ve had lots of success. Football is random, you’re not going to be amazing every game. That’s even more so in League 1
