Was hoping this would be a thriller, but that’s just bad.

With Michael Jackson looking for us maybe he could get us sponsored by Bubbles 😉

taffyram reacted to OoooMarkWright in Worst Refereeing decision for and against Derby.
Atwell v Forest. Addison’s header. Awful decision.
Agree about Martin at Burnley too. Should’ve had a penalty but was booked for diving. Sent off later for 2 bookings. Pure rage as the ref walked past Derby fans at half time. Bobby Madley had a shocker.

Think there is a lot of the pot calling the kettle on this forum at times🤣

To be fair, he did say "some" fans, not all, and didn't name individuals.
I could only speculate as to why you're offended on behalf of these unspecified fans, so I won't.

It really is a shame that the same can't be said for some fans.

Finding and signing that gem of a striker would help or perhaps he is already here and was out on loan. Effective Striker this year more key than ever

After this Summers Euros , next June/July we will be treated to the Club World Cup . 32 Top clubs go to the U.S.A to fight it out . I understand that lower Championship is not for you . What concerns me is that kids are saturated with images of the worlds top players and won’t give a fig about the “Bread and butter” , EFL .

Its just madness the money and the way the prem clubs are run! I hate the bussiness side of football! I dont see how clubs can really compete unless they go into big debts!
The prem just want to turn it all into a franchise and open shops all around the world and sell merchandise for the so called "big" clubs to get even more money!
They moan theres too many games but f off for tours during the winter beak! They get rid of the fa cup replays but newcastle and tottenham do a 24 hour flight to oz a week after the season finishes to do a tour! Drives me mad 😡🤬😤
I hated the idea of a european super league when it was floated a few years ago but the more i think about it the more its growing on me! Take the franchise clubs and f off on your european greed train and let the proper clubs sort out a proper league where footballs run sustainably!

taffyram reacted to BramcoteRam84 in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
As a club taking into account our history, punching above our weight would be top 10 in the premier league, the minimum we should be is a top 8 championship side anything lower than that then we’re underachieving. Last season (22/23) finishing 7th in L1 was the joint worst in our entire history.
However given we’re 2 years on from near oblivion, and the distribution of finances in football over the past 5-8 years especially, in our current state to be anywhere near the playoffs would be punching above our weight.
I’ve been fortunate to see Derby as a top 10 premier league club beating some of the big boys, but have to face the possibility we’ll never get back there. To get back to the premier league alone will be tough. And to survive you need to spend £150m!! It’s bonkers.
The premier league has changed football in this country for the worse, it’s almost a super league in itself and I think unless a regulator gets hold of it there will soon be a clamour for it to become a closed shop and the concern is some foreigners or self interested clubs who know nothing about the history of football in this country will decide 1 or 2 clubs from the East Mids is enough for the top table (bit like what Derbyshire is facing in cricket) and that would be devastating. I think I’d turn my back on all football if that happened.
We couldn’t have picked a worse decade to be s***.

taffyram reacted to Ghost of Clough in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
Because depite having one of the biggest gate receipts in the league, we won't have a top 6 turnover (due to parachute payments), and will most likely have a midtable playing budget. We'll therefore have to "punch above our weight" if we're to achieve the ultimate aim for most Championship clubs... promotion out of the Championship.

taffyram reacted to MadAmster in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
PW with Rotherham in the SBC.
1st time, relegated playing crap football
2nd time, same again
3rd time he had put together a better side playing decent football (source Rotherham forums at the time we poached him). He had them 8th after 9 games. All the sides above then had played 10. Win that game in hand and they would have gone 5th. He came to us and Rotherham ended up 19th. Just maybe, the 1st 2 seasons were more down to RUFC's inability to attract the right players? Both the results and the style were better 3rd time around...
IMO, forget anything he did at Rotherham. Derby is a totally different kettle of fish. Let's see what he can put together over the summer.

taffyram reacted to Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
Brentford incrementally hoisted themselves from relative obscurity by recruiting players on a data based model of analysing player attributes, buying those that excel in footballing stats in relation to their playing positions and then selling them on when, surprise, surprise they repeated their statistical strengths at a higher level.
Whilst some may scoff at this data-based approach, they got far more right than wrong and they're now in the Premier League and have made a profit on players of well north of £100m.
Bigger Premier League teams can afford to buy "off the peg" and mostly need instant results. We need to learn some lessons from Brentford if we want to slowly work our way back to the promised land. Mel mostly messed up by cherry picking some of the best players from our rivals, then trying to crowbar them into our team, ignoring the fact that we played a different style from the team we bought them from.
We've a long way to go before we can dream of a similar renaissance, but be more Brentford. Player stats are by no means perfect, but can lead you to spend your money wisely, and hit the jackpot of resales on a fairly frequent basis.
The first stat we should concentrate on is players who regularly are able to play 40+ games a year consistently. At least you're not buying a " Maradonna for 5 games a season ".
Every penny will count this season. We're fairly lean now, with little debt. Not a time for risks.....

You've invalidated that argument well.
I would argue this adds weight to the argument that the reason Rotherham yo-yo'd is because they couldn't do major surgery
-
taffyram reacted to kash_a_ram_a_ding_dong in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
Correct....
I'd imagine that one of the reasons he came here was to be able to build a team that could compete in the championship.
Every other time he achieved promotion, his players were largely sold off without suitable replacements for the division.
This will be the first time he can actually start to compete and hopefully show his true ability to manage in the second tier.

taffyram reacted to De22Ram in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
I dont see us as mid table! I see it as anything but relegation this first season! Im all for ambition but my worry is this first season will not be pretty, itll be about surviving and building for the following season! Dont want some fans to start booing after a few games because they think we should be mid table and were sitting in the relegation zone 🙈

Good question and I have no idea. It would be interesting to know, for example, how much Dylan Williams is currently on at Chelsea. He would have been on "pennies" here.
I bet there is also quite a big difference between wages of those on the books of United/Chelsea, and those from the likes of Bournemouth/Fulham.

Would be interesting to find out how much the likes of Chelsea pay their kids a week nowdays , £20k ? Also how much do they ask for as a fee , for a season , £5 mill ?

Reminds me of the Everton fan who once phoned 606 on 5 live and said:

🤣

taffyram reacted to Dave Mackay Ate My Hamster in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
Parachute payments income aside, we should still be a mid-table Championship team next season, just based on crowds and income. Obviously we're not an established Championship side now, after being relegated. We're not going to do " an Ipswich ", but we should be able to hold our own in this League.
My personal take is to buy wisely on speculative young talent. To take us forward, we need to take risks on upcoming prospects. Gone are the days of "ageing stars". Been there, done that. I'd settle for an improving team in this league. But don't do ourselves down - with good management and careful spending, we should, at least not be troubling the relegation positions.
I think we need to take advantage of young Premier League loanees - and speculative talent from the lower leagues. Also, despite PW's less than illustrious record in this league, I'd argue, cut him some slack. Rotherham, most likely had the smallest budget on the occasions he got them there.
We can't afford " Billy Big B******s " transfer fees or wages. We'll most likely have to wheel and deal. Maybe even sell Cashin or Dejaune at the top of the market to fund expansion. But, I do think, with our huge financial recalibration, we'll operate smarter. We have to. We don't have the big bucks anymore.
I'm expecting a mid table end position next season. But obviously wanting more. I'm wanting us to recruit like the Brentford of a few years ago. But will we?
Now every £ is sacred, will we spend wisely? I hope DC's influence will spend every penny carefully.
Do you think we can spend intelligently enough in this new financial reality to easily cement ourselves in this league next season?

Just a thought, we’ll have had a week longer break, teams will have lost players to the Euros, we’ll have promotion momentum…
If fixtures go our way… we could get the ball rolling 👀
