Giving this thread a bit of bump, however it is to say that I'm reopening another pub (as well as keeping the Maypole) this one is actually the Merry Widows. Hoping to open this evening, get through any teething problems before tomorrow's game.

When I was 8, I thought everyone was singing "Sheep shall guard me". It was a few years before I realised why my mum was horrified I was singing along and why she had asked what I was singing 😅

Just seen the highlights from yesterday.
Still coming to terms with how a professional footballer can miss an open goal from 4 yards out with no pressure on them, glad it didn't matter in the end.
Nevermind about new strikers, chances like that are gifts we can't afford to be turning down.
Nice to see as well that it's not just our defenders whom play suicide passes.
Onwards to Tuesday.
Keeper gets a touch and Bird can't readjust his body in time. Very harsh take on it.
Just posted in the Bird thread that it was reminiscent of the Gazza miss at Euro 96 just the opposite. Gazza expecting the touch from the keeper who doesn't and misses the ball by cms, Bird not expecting the touch and the ball goes behind him.

I think the goalkeeper deflected the ball behind Max .
Slight deflections can mean you run past the ball and can’t get your feet right .
Criticizing Bird is ridiculous in my eyes as he always gives his best for the team whatever .
The miss was the Gazza-Germany Euro 96 miss reversed.

Far be it from me to question that fine upstanding publication of balanced righteousness that is the Daily Mail but the article contradicts itself on the player payments - says later on that they are due at the end of August:
"Forest declined to comment. Players who remain at the club are due to be paid their bonuses at the end of August. It is thought that those who have left will received their fees at the same time."
Still hilarious about the agent fees though. Must be shed loads for last season's business.
Don't think it does contradict, players who have left the club were due to be paid their bonuses at the end of July and the players still at the club are due in August, the players that should have been paid already are believed to be paid in August with the current players.

I don't even remember one of them!? But if true, please tell me we sang the song...
We had the keeper on loan from Liverpool and the winger on loan from Millwall.
I believe we did sing the song.

Why don't we gazump them and sign the young lad up? https://www.watfordfc.com/magazine/features/getting-to-know-james-collins
Wasn't it the 1986 World Cup when the England fans were singing "Two Trevor Stevens - there's only two Trevor Stevens"? A contender for best footy chant of all time, and one we could replicate!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we have 2 David Martins under Nigel Clough?

Ok I may be being a bit harsh saying he was awful, but I remember too many blunders by him.
Which were down to him being injured, which also then knocked his confidence. And is the reason we went for Carson the following season.

He cost us loads of points in his last season with us, with his awful blunders.
Playing whilst injured as we only had Roos as back up.
The season before he was magnificent, and his performance away at Brighton in the play offs was one of the best I have seen by a keeper.

England have had 20 maiden overs in this innings already (Aussies have had 32 in the whole series) not sure what their game plan is today.

Waghorn didn't have the disadvantage of having Tom Ince on the opposite flank to him, thus being absolutely starved of the ball to the point he may as well not have been on the pitch for most of those games.
He did have Lawrence and to an extent Wilson as well, though.

How many goals scored and total minutes played?
1 hour ago, CongletonRam said:I would prefer that Chris Martin comes back to the club over Jordan Rhodes. They are similar age and their records are not dissimilar over the second half of their careers.
Neither have done much for 7 years. Their careers have stalled somewhat
In that time, their (very average) records are comparable:
Jordan Rhodes 212 (games). 38 (goals). (5.57 strike rate)
Chris Martin 171 32 (5.34 strike rate)
Conor Washington 218 43. (5.06 strike rate)
James Collins 308 110 (2.8 strike rate)
Collins really sticks out for his superior record. Get the ball to him and he will finish. Even the much maligned CW has a better record than Rhodes over that time period.
Warne has intimated that whoever he buys will be a rough diamond and represent something of a gamble. I don't think the need for a striker is as pressing as many make out. For me, we need creativity.

I'd also be fascinated to hear which player Murdo Mackay signed during Brown's tenure that impressed him to the point of thinking there must be something dodgy going on. There's no doubt Mackay had that type of deal in him, as he signed Bisgaard, Idiakez, and Rasiak the previous season, but who is Brown talking about? Did he consider Paul Thirwell to be an unbelievable signing?
I would say Marc Edworthy, as well as (like Brown mentioned) Darren Moore.

Apologies, missed this post.
Unfortunately Maypole doesn't have a licence until 11am, however as above, taken over at the Merry Widows now as well, and will be open from 10am on match days.
