I understand everyone’s very keen to avoid the mistakes of the past but surely what we’re actually trying to avoid is the Nick Blackman signing. A so-so player bought off the back of a purple patch, with years left on his deal and to satisfy a manager who knew him personally (only to be sacked almost immediately after, which won’t be happening to Warne)

Didn't Blackman only have 6 months left on his deal at Reading when we signed him?

Glad you've read the thread. You would have seen that I answered your comment in another post more than once. So sorry if you felt that it didn't apply to your point. Never mind it was just another Warne joke. 👍

I have read the thread. I've seen you take offence on behalf of Sibley, I've seen you not realise that it was a joke, I've seen your post where you get snotty when people have told you it was a joke, I've seen your post that clearly shows you haven't watched the interview. I've seen your posts that deflect away from the point, which it was joke. A joke that he had already said to Sibley, before the interview. You questioned if there is doubt that it was a joke it shouldn't have been said. There was no doubt, if you had watched the interview. My first post was to show you that it was a joke, but you can't admit that you were wrong, but you were wrong because you weren't given the full details of the interview, and had clearly not watched it. But whatever, I'm done.

Why do you feel the need to keep going on about my opinion? I've answered why i posted but that's not good enough for you. Read my previous posts. 👍

Show me where I keep going on about your opinion. In fact show me the last time we had any interaction, it will have been months because I have avoided having any discussions on the forum for quite a while because all I seem to get in return is snotty replies.

I have posted twice on this whole thread (prior to this one) once with what Warne fully said about Sibley's goal, as to me it seemed as though you hadn't watched the interview and had only read part of it which did seem like Warne was calling Sibley, and the other was in response to that post, where you are having a dig at Warne for having a joke, that clearly he has already had with Sibley prior to the interview. In my opinion, Warne wouldn't have made the joke if Sibley did not take it the way it was meant to, you know, as a joke.

That will encourage him to risk shooting again. 👍 Oh, that is if he gets to play again anytime soon.

Seriously?!? It was clearly a joke. You've obviously not watched the interview, and you are taking offence on behalf of Sibley without knowing his feelings. You are taking this completely out of proportion, which is no great surprise to be honest, as it feels like you look for any reason to post negativity about Warne.

My opinion is that if there's a doubt over the joke don't do it. Plus Sibs hasn't been a regular, why not just give him a bit of a boost and leave it at that? It takes away from the praise and is un-necessary.

I criticise him because I don't rate things he does, that is one instance. I haven't bothered recently because all that comes back is personal comments. If you think Warne is a joker fair enough. But suggesting my motives isn't at all pertinent, but is a cheap shot. 👍

In the end it's the players that will be the one's to interpret what Warne says means.

Warne actually said "I'm glad he scored because if he hadn't scored he would have been in deep because he could have put Birdy in, so erm, (Warne cracks a big smile) he knew I was going to say that, so yeah really pleased for Sibs"

All opinions.  Marriott's two goals deserved the start.  He terrified Mings when he came on when his afternoon had been that easy he was living on the halfway line.  No other manager would have left a striker on the bench that full of confidence unless it was a personal dislike.  Incomprehensible to me then and now.

Yes Marriott deserved to start as well. For me the team should have been the one that we had on the field when Holmes went off injured against Leeds (bar, obviously, Cole for the suspended Malone) we should have kept the midfield 3 of Johnson, Mount and Wilson, Lawrence at the tip of the diamond and Marriott and Bennett up top.

It wasn't personal against Marriott, it was Lampard being cautious and putting a less attacking team out.

Remember when we played Franks favourite up top.

I'm sorry but Mason Bennet deserved to start the final, he had probably his best game for us in the semi final against Leeds, he played a big part in the first goal and won the penalty. His harassment and harrying of their defenders played a big part in their capitulation.

It always amazes me how it isn't picked up that the error was changing the dynamic of the midfield was a major factor to our performance against Villa, for me the inclusion of Huddlestone was more detrimental to our performance than Bennett starting.
