Oxford have just been loaned an England u20 goalkeeper from Brighton. We have signed some steady League 1 players but 2 or 3 loans from the Prem could give us the edge. 

It should be possible to replace the goals, but not the class.
Sheffield Wednesday had Smith and Windass both in Teans of goals, but together more than McGoldOne.
Neither of those two (type of) strikers or equivalents are out of our range?

My thoughts exactly. It is possible to replace the goals through a combination of the likely change in play and the squad additions we have and will continue to make. I can see there being more goals shared across the team, the likelihood is McGoldrick was a one season treat for the fans, there aren’t many players out there (at this level) with his touch, vision, and for want of a better word… swagger(?). 
I’m glad we got to see him play and I expect we’ll see goals next season but more scored from range, from crosses, relying on some pace/power rather than McGoldricks touch and class.

Not getting to playoffs again would be utter failure. If we got there and fate conspired against us then there is not much you can do about that.

I think we need players who are good in the air to take advantage of Hourihane balls in from set peices.

Top two is the target. Top 6 is the very bare minimum. Any less than that is an abject failure. We've had a year to acclimatise and get settled under Clowes, time to get out of this rubbish league. 

I wondered what would happen if we tried to adjust transfer costs by inflation. I took the inflation figures from https://www.totallymoney.com/content/transfer-index/data/#filters?/options?order=4|asc and calculated what we paid, minus any fee we received and divided by the number of appearances we actually got out of the player. The higher the bindex number, the more relatively useless the player was to us.
