Correct, only one game played, we played well enough but on the basis that we only scored one goal I'm not sure how we could have "easily won by two clear goals"?
It's looking increasingly likely that we won't get pace in. The market is absolutely flat. Even PL teams don't seem to be letting youngsters go out on loan. Teams who have relied heavily on loans in the past might struggle this year.
Your point that you'd rather lose than win 5-0 is completely lost on me. I'll take the 5-0 win thanks. I'm sure the topic among Barnsley fans having beaten Port Vale 7-0 wasn't "I wish we'd lost".
It clearly hasn't gelled straight away but I'm not worried. We played well enough in patches on Saturday to suggest we could have a good season. You wouldn't expect the defence to be collectively that poor again this season.
People have gone over the top, but also I've seen some very valid constructive criticism that you clearly see as whining.
The prem loans will come out, but not until the last week usually when EPL have finished their wheeling and dealing.

Can’t see it until SW sign a couple of forwards.

1-0 Win (Bird).
Dull as dishwater, but job done.

Waggy can play more positions and can press much better..
But will miss a greater proportion of chances..
Pays your money, takes your choice.. Arguably if you were to think of Knight in a more forward role, then a good replacement which would probably get more goals.
If Rhodes can’t press/chase then in some games he would be a liability and not selectable.

Won’t we still need oil for lubrication, plastics and any number of other things for ever?

Could have said to PW that he really wants to come, but needs to negotiate an exit deal with HT and advised PW that he was confident that he could.
Then it turns out HT play hardball and he wants to play a who blinks first game with HT (as Colin would really want to have the wages for someone who he wants to play).
PW doesn’t want to play the game and has moved on.

Are Wigan expected to be any good this year?

I predict some Lonnnnnnngggggg games initially until they slowly give up on the new rules.

I can imagine his tricks don’t work as well against better quality Champ defenders, but L1 is definitely poorer in that area so hopefully he can have a great season.

I’ve been assuming the “goal scoring” CF signing is just waiting for the Knight deal to be done to provide the funds.
Assuming this happens, I’m fine with CW.
Every chance he can get 10 goals based on past L1 record. Collins could get similar (like he did last season) so assuming we do get the main man in, say 18+ then that should be sufficient with a bit more contribution from elsewhere.
Our midfield should be able to do better than last year IMO.

Nope. It’s a bit Jodrell Bank

The great thing about live football is that you can have great moments whatever the level.
The Leeds playoff Semi Final win was as good or better in terms of the emotional event than most of the 90’s prem games, despite none of the footballers being at the same talent level.
I have had the Cox and Smith top flight years in my supporting life and they were great times. But there were exciting games in none too flight seasons too which I have enjoyed as much or more.
“That Season” in the PL where we went every week expecting to lose is something I could do without repeating. Last season in L1 was way better even if you don’t get to see Ronaldo.

Getting 30 goals out of two or three players as massively better than getting 25+ from. McGoldOne.
Being reliant on one player like we did is just a huge gamble for no injuries, suspension, form loss. So… Didzy may have done us a massive favour by going to Notts, if it results in us building a more balanced team…
Cheers McDick. 👏⚽️ But it was necessary to replace you with a spread of goals, even if none of the players will be your calibre..

Not surprised to see some absolute drivel on here tempered by posters with realistic expectations.
We don't know what squad we'll have, we're the bookies favourites (which means nothing), we are the biggest team in the league with the largest budget (which none of us actually know), all of which are spurious assertions yet from this we therefore must be winning the league......or Warne must get sacked.
I'll go with Top 6 minimum.
Don’t know why, this post made me giggle.
Thanks Mr D

Quality prem loans are often done later in the window (after season starts frequently) as they may depend on the prem teams own transfer dealings. I think we probably keep a slot open for one or two of these, but don’t bank on it. IE A Brucey bonus..

Could be the new Keogh…

It should be possible to replace the goals, but not the class.
Sheffield Wednesday had Smith and Windass both in Teans of goals, but together more than McGoldOne.
Neither of those two (type of) strikers or equivalents are out of our range?
Anyway that’s the way to do it…

My lad says the other 4 signings are a 68 on Fifa23 and Conor is a 65, so it's a no from him.
What would Nick Blackman and Erling Haaland be on the FIFA scale (just so I can understand the process).

Wondering if we have certain signings potentially lined up which would be dependent on raking in some Knight cash..

I was Mr Utility.
Did not mid where I played and was pretty mediocre so who ever was not available played there. Highest standard was when I was goalkeeper and both first and second team starters were injured.
Only scored 2 goals ever (not as goaly) and was too shocked to celebrate.
If i did it more regularly I would think the “Shearer” would be my style.
