Couldn't agree more. I've been saying it for a while (alongside you and a few others) the academy is the one major advantage we have as a club that we can draw upon to essentially punch above our weight but we have to be set up for it and have to take some of the teething pains as we put the rights thing in place for it flourish.
The one thing I'll add, the short term "fast promotion" argument would have weight if it looked like that was what was going to happen. Last season we finished and right now we are looking for a finish that's more or less the same (within a few places). In what world does that look a fast promotion? That's my biggest biggest problem with Warne is we are doing neither a fast promotion nor building for the future.

I do not believe that Warne is deliberately and wantonly defying the owner at all. I posted yesterday that I think that Warne is proving to be a one-tricky pony who knows only one way of playing and with those methods he achieved promotion three times with Rotherham (followed notably by two relegations from the Championship). He has not previously managed a club with a Category One academy where the EPPP programme is adopted and the first team play a style of football in line with that taught in the academy. Derby still adopt EPPP as do all PL2 academy teams. We now are the only PL2 club whose first team does not play a style which reflects EPPP; that causes a problem for academy players stepping up and we are failing those youngsters in who we have invested so much. I think simply that Warne's methods are extremely limited and he knows no other way, which makes him a poor fit for Derby County. It's not his fault, he simply knows no better. The academy coaches are good but Warne is not the right coach to further the development of the academy graduates. Other clubs have appointed younger coaches with long experience of academy coaching as head coaches and they are way ahead of Warne; Kieran McKenna has been at Ipswich less than two years and has turned them around from mid-table in Division One to a side on the brink realistically of promotion to the Premier League. There are many other similar examples of coaches outperforming Warne.
If you doubt that the rebuilding of the academy was part of David Clowes' intentions and he might not have told that to Paul Warne I simply cannot help you and you will have to take that up with the owner. I find him candid and honest about what he has said about his intentions for the club. Are you confusing him with his predecessor ? I hope not. I have not been privy to any of his conversations. I simply trust his public statements backed by the clear support and investment in the academy.
I don't get the misunderstanding about the competitive budget which David Clowes said we had. Is it not competitive? Paul Warne said he had chosen to spend not on transfer fees but on wages which allowed him to bring in more players. I don't find that confusing; it was Paul Warne's choice on he spent the competitive budget.
Yes, with what I have witnessed in the past year, I now think that Liam Rosenior would have been the logical appointment. For all I know, the owner may or may not be thinking the same thing. Hindsight is a benefit available to none of us at he time of making crucial decisions. I don't do guessing so I can't help you there.

I don't know how much academy football you watch. I have been watching it for eight years whenever the first team aren't playing. This is the first time I have been worried that we are not making the best use of the potential resources. I know that other regular academy attendees who post on here and others who follow it on Rams TV, share the same concerns.

Not picking you out particularly with this, it's more of a general comment, but the bold bits get to the root of why I'm so opposed to Warne.
The way I see it, we have everything off-field ready for the Premier League - the fanbase size, the stadium, the training ground etc are all good enough.  Obviously we have no divine right to be in any league, but in theory there's no reason why we shouldn't be in the same group of clubs as the likes of Leicester/Burnley/Fulham/Brighton/Norwich etc who have spent at least as much time in the Prem as they have out of it in recent seasons.  I'm not saying we can win it like Leicester or be top 6 like Brighton or anything, but we absolutely have the potential to get there and stay there, but the onus is on us as a club to make it happen.
Obviously, one way that happens is that a new owner comes along and throws a lot of money at the club.  But there's no guarantee this happens, there's no guarantee it works if it does, and we all know what the potential fallout can be if it goes wrong.  It's certainly not an option we should be relying on.  Another way is just genuine luck, alignment of stars type stuff - you get the right manager at the right time, a bunch of signings all work out and you hit the jackpot.  We came close with Burley+Rasiak+Idiakez... and McClaren+Martin+Bryson... but ultimately fell short.  Again, that's not something you can rely on - you need a lot of things to all hit at once, and even then it might not work.  And it gets harder and harder as the championship gets dominated by clubs with parachute payments.
So IMO we should be doing the one thing that we have some degree of control over, and that's doing our level best to get the most we can out of the academy.  But that means fully committing to it.  When academy players are hitting 17/18/19/20 (it will be different for each players), they need to start being introduced to senior football.  If they aren't they won't progress.  If we take the approach that we can't play youth players now, we need to get promoted first, then you're basically writing off the current generation of academy players.  They won't get the first team exposure they need and won't kick on.
So if we do get promoted what happens?  We can't afford to play academy players, we need to get stabilised in this league first.  And then?  We can't afford to play academy players, we need to kick on for the top 6 now.  And then?  We can't afford to play academy players, we need to get promoted to the prem first.  If your attitude is "we can't afford to play them now", then you won't be able to play them when they're good enough later, because they won't get good enough.
You can't just have an academy sat on the sidelines and hope it produces players now and then.  If you want to be like Southampton and have a steady stream of them, you have to gear the whole club up to make it happen.  You play similar styles of football across all age groups, you gear your transfer policy to not block promising players, you commit to giving youngsters first team chances when they're ready and if they take it you let them run with it.  And from what I can see, we can't do any of that with Warne in charge.  So we're just stuck hoping a youngster pops up, fully formed, once in a blue moon.  And that's one of the big advantages we could have over similar sized clubs that we are just choosing to throw away.
I have no idea if Weston is good enough, I've never seen him play.  But by all accounts he did well when he came on, and scored a good goal.  If you give him say 20 minutes against Barnsley and he scores again, then okay, maybe we've got something here.  If he then starts against Crewe and scores, then we've got a potential first team striker for nothing.  And if he doesn't do any of that then fine, he goes back to the U21s and maybe gets another shot in a month or 2.  But right now, we've just got a guy that scored a goal once and then never played again, which is no use to anyone.
Sorry everyone for the long post, but I genuinely think appointing Warne was a catastrophic mistake for a lot of reasons.  The ridiculous short-termism of "he was brought in to achieve promotion quickly" sums it up - it's like there's no thought as to what happens when we do get promoted.  And when I see fans almost actively celebrating it ("I don't care about academy players, we won 3-0" type stuff) I just find it a bit sad really.  I want the club to be in the premier league, I want the club to play good football, and I want to see academy players getting into the first team and doing well, and I want the club to be actively trying to make all that stuff happen, not just flailing around doing stuff at random and hoping that one day it might work.

”For the next 70 minutes WE didn’t lay a glove on them”
“WE didn’t create enough goal scoring opportunities”

    I see it differently.
I sensed a whole club mentality after the Wolves game. We had two ideal opportunities since to build on that. Particularly Weston. Think how good he felt after the Wolves match. We could easily have given him the last 15 -20 against Barnsley. Then last night, none of those senior players could have any complaints if they got subbed for a youngster. At 3-1 the game was perfectly set for a cup hero, no real pressue, just go out and see if you can get us back in. But no. All that good from the Wolves game wasted. That fire and desire in Weston dampened as he sits and watches players going through the motions. I imagine he feels somewhat deflated.
It just cements my opinion that Warne is not a risk taker and he sees anyone under 21/20 as a risk, with very little trust. For a club with an academy that we have done a lot of work to get back in shape it concerns me greatly.

The main issue with the loss is the team he put out. I don't think anyone would have minded if we had lost with 2-4 academy lads getting a game.

Saturday was okay we scored 2 goals off long free kicks but you’ve got to score them somehow. The other a soft penalty. Still didn’t like our overall play but when you win who cares. When you don’t win then this is what is looked at. What really annoys me more than anything with warne is his inability to change a game when it’s not going his way. Also what is the point of a cat 1 academy if the manager doesn’t at least throw them in a cup game when we have 12 senior players who played 3 days earlier. At least Rooney and Rosenior would have chucked them in.

if I was an academy prospect I’d look at other teams than derby with the current set up as with this manager I don’t see a pathway to the first team

Our style of play relies on set pieces or the opposition giving us space to play in. Once we get a goal, the opposition leave more gaps at the back which allows us to hit them on the break and give us 1 on 1 situations
We struggle against the sides who make the middle of the pitch compact and get back into defence quickly. If we concede first, it just makes the task harder as the opposition sit deeper and deeper.
Why do we struggle against those compact defences?  Simply put, the players resort to crosses - from an inability to create through the middle and down to manager instructions. The manager takes most of the blame for that as he chooses the team. He consistently chooses the least creative midfield possible (one of which relies heavily on crossing the ball as a form of creating chances), and the way the full backs and wide attackers are set up means we have 4 players in wide positions who would rather cross the ball than play passes into the middle of the pitch.
Looking at our central players (starts only), Fornah, Hourihane and Smith combined are creating fewer non-cross open play chances per 90 than Bird. Thompson marginally leads the list, with Sibley in 3rd. Since Thompson is injured (and unlikely to play much under Warne), and Sibley preferred on the wing (if at all), we rely heavily on Bird to create against those more compact sides. Crowd Bird out of the game and the crosses are inevitable.

    An inability to change tactics
An inability to play to our strengths
No trust in some of the youngsters
Looking like he's losing (lost) some of the dressing room
We're only as high up as we are due to the fact most other teams are absolute tripe.

I think it's fairly clear at this point that he just isn't the right person to lead us to where we need to be. Ipswich spent a bit longer in League One, but they built up with a good young manager and a good style of football and have adapted well to the league above. I have no data to back this up, but generally the pragmatic sides that get up don't seem to adapt as well.

Tonight is on the players. The team was comfortably good enough to win tonight, and the tactics and set up won't be radically different from the weekend. The difference is application by individuals. They need to look at themselves in the mirror.

Hello everyone, I’m Claire, Daniel’s (B4) sister. I am overwhelmed by your kind words, support, and the memories you have shared.  Thank you so much for the kindness and love you have all shown to Daniel over the years. My parents are working their way through all of the posts and will offer their own thanks in due course.
I wish I knew about the scraves, flanges and ballions before now. I wouldn’t have let Daniel live that down at home. This made my husband and I laugh this morning.
I will be wearing Daniel’s shirt and keeping his seat warm at the Bristol match. Really looking forward to hearing a big cheer and round of applause in the 38th minute, a goal at the time would be perfect!  Do please continue to share the picture with details of the applause. Let’s raise the roof for Daniel!!!

A stranger we had yet to meet.
    Our paths had never crossed.
And yet, it seems, we knew him well,
A dear friend we have lost.
A heart of gold, a Kindly soul,
    A friendly word to each.
A clumsy gaff may oft appear,
    But ne’er offence be reached.
A call to arms, a plea for fight,
    A positive embrace.
    Defiant stance, a pumping fist,
    A smile on his face.
Hatred of pink, and all things red,
More strangers for him to meet.
“A sea of black and white” he’d call,
“Let’s all stand at our seat”!
    A disregard for marriage,
    for relationships of two,
    “Never, ever” he would wail,
    “That would never do”!
Yet he loved all, and we loved him.
    His quirks always forgiven,
    His stubbornness frustrated,
But missed, now he’s in Heaven.
The truest Ram, amongst us all,
    Now gone for evermore.

When I heard this sad news last night, I was absolutely gutted, B4 was such a positive man, an optimist in times of mediocrity, a true believer who only faltered once, when we were on the brink 16 months ago. The thought of losing his beloved Rams, filled him with dread.
However, it is only tonight, reading everyone's tributes, with an unashamed tear rolling down my cheek, that the bigger picture emerged. Tales of chats at service stations and concourses, his passion at at games and most tellingly, the private messages of encouragement or empathy when other posters were going through a tough time. Even when he had his own troubles, which would have left most of us exhausted and probably would have prevented all of us attaining his relentless positivity.
The reason behind those chats and messages, as well as good human nature, is we are family. We have something which binds us together, a shared love, a community. We live in a polarised society, where politicians, media and social media seek to expose and amplify any divisions and isolate us. However, we have an attachment, a forum, a club, a badge, a team to rally round and no-one rallied round The Rams more than B4. For those, like B4, who may find life hasn't always been kind or easy, that sense of attachment is even stronger and more important.
They say you die twice in life, once when you stop breathing and again when people stop remembering you. Daniel, we will remember you, we will remember your rallying cries, your kindness to others and most of all the purity of your faith for the team you love.

I heard the news last night and it came as a huge shock, B4 as we knew him so fondly by will be a huge loss to the forum.
He was Mr Positivity, Derby County's biggest cheerleader, even during the bad times his positivity would shine through.
I know his Dad was at the game today with a scarf on his seat, whilst we haven't closed the gap on Portsmouth in Daniel's final rallying call on this forum, I'm sure he will be over the moon with the 3 goals and 3 points today.
DCFC Fans will be honouring Daniel in time to ensure he remains in our memories, we will also be contacting the club in due course to see what can be done during a game.
Suggestions are welcomed as we all come to terms with the loss.

I have some very sad news this evening.  Daniel (B4) died earlier this week. He was just 38.
As you know, he has been battling numerous health conditions for a long time, but always remained cheerful  and was the most loyal supporter of his beloved Rams, home and away.
He was at the match at Crewe and gave his full support as always.
Daniel leaves behind a grieving dad, mum and sister. Our thoughts go out to them and we only hope they get a little comfort from knowing how well loved Daniel is by all who know him.
Here are a couple of photos that his dad agreed could be shared. I'm sure many of you have others, as Daniel loved a selfie at the game.
David is hoping to arrange a more fitting tribute in time, but for now please raise a glass in his memory and a good Derby win today. I am sure that's what Daniel would have been doing tonight.

But just to bring a rather more dismal viewpoint to it, Crewe could only manage 5 players on their bench and I believe had 8 players out injured.  Why didn't we change our gameplan by halftime to overrun a makeshift Div 2 team?  We were too slow and deliberate in our build up, giving Crewe time to pack out the final third. You're right, we should have been out of sight and with better game management, maybe we would have been.  The jury is still out on our tactical nouse - whether that lies at PW's door or the players  - or maybe both, I don't have an informed view of.  It's still very frustrating to watch.....

In the interview on this thread (at 47 seconds) he literally said we don’t come away with it feeling like a victory.
If, in another interview, he did say a draw feels like a win, come on, surely he meant scoring two very late goals to grab a draw makes it feel like a win. I think that’s a very normal and common sensation and not an indication of his expectation. Same with their manager, if you’re 2:0 up on 88 minutes you’re bound to be disappointed not to have won even if you’ve been played off the park for those 88 minutes.

Having sat and watched the League One leaders lose at Chesterfield, fielding their strongest team, but Chesterfield deservedly winning, I did wonder what Derby’s match at Crewe had in store.
Warne, I think rightly, did not change a winning team, many on here seem to urge that. Derby battered the Crewe penalty area constantly for most of the first half. Crewe often had 8/9 men in their penalty area at times, which was very congested. We did try a variety of methods to score, playing passes to try and break through the lines, to no avail. We then resorted to mainly cross the ball, usually failing to hit a Derby player. If there was a diffence from Tuesday night it was a lack of movement from the front players, to try and create space. Unfortunately, Fonzie had an off day with his passing, sometimes because of lack of movement in front of him, and the falling asleep for their first goal.
in the second half, we were still dominant in possession but particularly Hourihane slowed the game too much, in my opinion, maybe trying to look confident that we would get back in game. The 2nd game was again poor defending from both Bradley and Nelson. That led to Crewe packing their Area with even more men, had some luck but also were let off by some poor score scoring efforts.
The subs did have an effect, freshening things up and eventually Derby scored the goals which gave them what they deserved. Well done for continuing to believe. Contrary to what some think, there is good spirit and they are playing for the Head Coach. As someone else said, Hourihane up his game tempo and was very important in the revival. Derby tried to play along the ground as much as possible, but trying to play through the centre of the defence was virtually impossible. Our standard of crossing improved a bit with Ward and to a lesser extent Wilson. Think Ward will be very important when he becomes match fit.
some of the comments on here during the match were embarrassingl and laughable. Special mention too to Crewe, who made it extremely difficult with their determination and hard work. Having watched the match against Northampton, their Manager wasn’t going to give Derby the amount of space they enjoyed on Tuesday.
Apart from a couple of pieces of defending and our finishing, it was a reasonable performance and no where near as bad as the Warne Out people are portraying. It was Crewe’s Cup Final - Chesterfield won theirs quite convincingly against Portsmouth!
