  1. Id like us to have 25 players in the squad, that would provide team depth, and rest the older players. At least one more striker, attacking midfielder, better defensive midfielder.

Are any of these players we might consider signing ... LIAM KINSELLA, BEN COTTRELL, DOMINIC GAPE, KEVIN STEWART and KILLIAN PHILLIPS

  2. We are being linked with Billy Sharp, thankfully Rotherham are also linked with him. At 37 he's not even a good substitute in my book.

We potentially could look at premier league loans, how about ... Yegor Yarmolyuk (Brentford, attacking midfielder), Luke Plange (Crystal palace), Malcolm Ebiowei (Crystal Palace).

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Derby County is interested in Ipswich Town striker Freddie Ladapo, with Rams boss Paul Warne being "a big fan" of the 30-year-old after working with him at Rotherham. However, Witcoop claimed that Ipswich Town "won't entertain any bids" for Ladapo. After the arrival of George Hirst from Leicester City, Ipswich Town's stance may have changed.

Three potential loan signings that could be knight replacements we might want to consider ... Greg Docherty (Hull City), Ollie Rathbone (Rotherham United), Marc Leonard (Brighton and Hove Albion).

Nigerian striker joins us on trial ... https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=48082

In the meantime, great news for us regarding Barnsley ...

  3. I think 2 million is a good fee for a player in the last year of his contract, whether the cast of Wilson, is the right player and after 4 months injury last season?

Any way the focus must remain on replacing knight with player like Josh Onomah, who I think could do well in League one.

Hourihane at 32 hes not going to look any faster in the coming season, plus he looked tired towards the end of the season.

I'm looking for players like these from last season, who created at least 11 assists ...

    Leif Davis, Ipswich Town, 14

    Barry Bannan, Sheffield Wednesday, 13

    Aaron Collins, Bristol Rovers, 11

    Wes Burns, Ipswich Town, 11

Then the next challenge, finding a striker who can score more than 15 goals in a season and remaining injury free (take a look at their historical injury records, plus the fact that they as older players are more likely to be injury prone) which I don't see collins or Washington doing.

For the striker I'd be happy with us signing sam smith.

I didn't write the following, but i accept the articles view ...

Great strikers are often considered selfish because they need to be focused on scoring goals and winning games for their team. Here are some reasons why great strikers are often seen as selfish:

Yearning for glory: Strikers are often the heroes of the game, and the largest slice of glory is reserved for the goalscorer. To consistently deliver the volumes of goals required at the highest level, strikers need to be ambitious and self-centered.

Responsibility to score: As a striker, it's your job to score goals and win games for your team. This means that strikers need to be focused on taking shots and opportunities for themselves, rather than always passing the ball to their teammates.

Motivation to win: Strikers are often motivated by personal accolades, such as winning the Golden Boot, which is awarded to the top scorer in a league. This can lead to a selfish mindset, where strikers are focused on scoring as many goals as possible to win the award.

Pressure to perform: Strikers are often under a lot of pressure to perform, as they are expected to score goals and win games for their team. This pressure can lead to a selfish mindset, where strikers are focused on their own performance rather than the team's performance.

Overall, while great strikers may be seen as selfish, their focus on scoring goals and winning games is essential to the success of their team.

    Need a poll. Godden\ Sharp/neither

Whole story seems to suggest Godden is second option but in my opinion I’d prefer him.

Not for anything Sharp has done wrong but because he’s younger and more mobile.

Billy Sharp guaranteed as over the hill at 37.

    Godden is 31.

    Godden seasonal stats:

    2022/23 scored 8 goals

    2021/22 scored 12 goals

    2020/21 scored 6 goals

    2019/20 scored 15 goals

    2018/19 scored 18 goals

    2017/18 scored 14 goals.

Many of these were scored at championship level.

I would be very happy if the club signs godden.

If we pack our team with older players who struggled in the championship, what do we do if we’re promoted?

Don’t we end up paying over the odds again because everyone knows we’re desperate?

We do what many other promoted teams do, scrub them as free agents or by accepting what ever low bid we can get.

    Examples:

Ipswich, 8 players left the club.

Plymouth Argyle, 11 players left the club.

Sheffield wednesday, 6 players left the club.

Then we rebuild the team, but we would have a full transfer budget if this season, we are promoted.

Zero chance I'd want to see Washington or collins trying to win us games in the championship.

Warnes not got a great record in the Championship, but at least he's been there. He knows what's required to get the team performing well in the Championship.

Once in the Championship its difficult to obtain a promotion play off because of all the demoted teams from the Premier league who for several seasons received payments for having been in the Premier league, to give them the best chance of promotion.

Due to long term injuries, a reluctance to use the academy, and not making full use of the loan system, we effectively had a 15 man squad for the league last season (those who played more than 100 minutes)

We will be increasing the effective first team squad from 15 to 20-22 - a considerable increase.

Warne has commented that we will aim to sign 3 'forwards'. This will almost certainly be 2 CFs and 1 AM/SS/W.

thats against the backdrop of a limited transfer budget and free agents. My concern is that many of the ok striker free agents have been signed already? Given that warne is looking at signing 3 forwards

  9. for context ... i wasnt actually thinking are we missing out on certain players. I am just wondering if how many players we might at this point have missed out on, in as much as they could improve our current overall squad. i wanted to look at strikers, but may be attacking midfielders should also be looked at.

I think we probably need to sign 3 new strikers, especially as i dont consider collins as good enough or to be a player that will score a huge amount of goals in the coming season and even if he could he cant be expected to lead the line for multiple games.

The club has both a limited transfer budget and needs to rely on free agents and loan players. With that in mind are there players we have missed out on that could have improved the current squad.

Our current squad seemed exhausted towards the end of the season, not many of our players looked like contributing a lot of goals.

At the end of last season, our team was not strong enough to secure a play off place.

  10. Would any of the following players, have significantly improved our clubs attacking line ...

    Josh Gordon (Barrow) to Burton,

    Cole Stockton (Morecambe) to Burton,

    Danny Mayor (Plymouth) to Fleetwood,

    Reeco Hackett-Fairchild (Portsmouth) to Lincoln,

    Christian Saydee (Bournemouth) to Portsmouth,

    Conor Shaughnessy (Burton) to Portsmouth,

    Anthony Scully (Wigan) to Portsmouth,

Dan Agyei (Crewe) to Leyton Orient,

Ethan Galbraith (Man United) to Leyton Orient,

Max Sanders (Lincoln) to Leyton Orient,

    Alistair Smith (Sutton) to Lincoln.

    Whytte to Portsmouth

  11. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/initial-cost-of-birmingham-citys-derby-county-and-leeds-united-double-swoop-revealed/

I wonder if this is true ...

"The report claims that Birmingham will pay less than £1 million in initial fees in the deals with Derby and Leeds, which is particularly helpful given the Championship club is operating on a tight budget this summer.

If Eustace is able to help both players fulfill their potential, this double-swoop could end up looking like a masterstroke - particularly given the pair cost their last club more than £10 million in combined transfer fees (Bielik £8m and Roberts £2.5m)."

Ive used flw here, because i didnt find another article where the fee was mentioned.

Sor for Bielik and Roberts a combined fee of £1 million. Bielik's fee could rise to 1 million over time, however Birmingham got a heck of a bargain.

This doesn't inspire me with confidence over the transfer negotiation ability of our club.

I guess the one plus is the reduction from our wage bill, but that was largely covered last season by his loan to Birmingham and probably would have been again had we decided to loan him to another club. We would not have received a fee in a years time for him, but it kind of feels like we have not received a fee for him any way. If to give value to it, i estimated we sold Bielik a player who initially cost us 8 million, to Birmingham for 500k.

While i admit Bielik probably is not worth a lot, i think hes worth more than 500k to 1 million, assuming the club eventually gets the 1 million.
