  1. I wonder if it's worth considering replacing Paul Warne with Luke Williams.

Williams has been coaching in League One and the National League with Notts County, and it appears that he is close to making further progress up the pyramid. He is known for his coaching methods and tactical mind, having previously coached the Robins Under-23s from 2017 to 2019, before joining Notts County.

We would have to buy out this contract, but we would have to buy out the contract for most managers who might be worthwhile replacing Warne.

Williams is an "on-the-grass" style coach who can help players improve their individual skills. However, I understand that there could be concerns about his ability to promote us to the Championship, and whether our club is willing to take the risk.

  2. While I've appreciated Paul Warne's efforts since he joined us, it's clear our form under his leadership has been dreadful. After a string of defeats that see us languishing in the wrong part of the table for a club of derbys pedigree.

Warne was brought in to turn things around, but the results speak for themselves - it simply hasn't happened. The squad looks devoid of ideas and motivation lately. Though saying goodbye is difficult, we need fresh tactics and enthusiasm to start winning again.

As much as I respect Warne, the club must come first. Bringing in new leadership gives us the best chance of promotion and getting Derby back where we belong. The fans deserve better and have suffered long enough.

I know making a managerial change is disruptive, but our poor form shows something needs to change. With the right appointment, we can still turn our season around. But sticking with the status quo means more disappointment.

It's time we start looking forward. Let's thank Warne for his efforts and begin the search for a manager who can bring success back to Derby County. Our club's future is at stake.

And he won’t unless we put a run together and surge up the table , some think it can happen, others don’t 🤷🏻‍♂️

Warne doesn't inspire me that the team under his management is capable of beating the top teams.

Looking forward to seeing if he can mastermind a victory in our next match.

Our win ratio has to massively increase, we don't need to get beaten by lower teams.

  4. Does warne inspire confidence that this team is ready to turn things around and beat 90% of the teams in this division.

I'm concerned about the Stevenage game but I'm concerned about he would win against the top 5 teams.

    Warne doesn't inspire confidence

  5. Derby county not spending a transfer fee for sometime has created the following:

Limited to older players: Free agents are typically players who are not wanted by their former clubs and are often older players who have very little resale value.

Relying solely on free agents can limit a team's ability to bring in younger, more promising players who can contribute to the team's long-term success.

Lack of team cohesion: Signing a large number of free agents can disrupt team cohesion and make it difficult for players to develop a strong understanding of each other's playing styles. This can be a disadvantage for teams that are looking to build a cohesive and successful team.

Performance risk: Free agents may not perform as well as expected, especially if they are older players who are past their prime. This can be a disadvantage for teams that have invested heavily in high wage budgets for these players

In summary, while free agents can be a valuable addition to a team, relying solely on them with high wage budgets can have several disadvantages, including being limited to older players with little resale value, performance risk, and a lack of team cohesion.

we need to spend money buying players, rebuilding the team.

Without that can warne or any new manager be expected to see positive results.

Does our high wage budget stop us making proper transfers without releasing players first.

  6. Here are 15 signs of an ineffective football manager:

Consistently poor results: If a manager is unable to achieve positive results on a regular basis, it could be a sign of poor tactics, team selection, or man-management skills.

Inability to recognize bad players: A manager who is unable to identify the strengths and weaknesses of his players may struggle to build a cohesive team.

Over-reliance on wonderkids: While signing young, talented players can be beneficial, relying too heavily on them can be risky and may not lead to sustained success.

Lack of adaptability: A manager who is unable or unwilling to adjust his tactics or team selection based on the opposition or changing circumstances may struggle to achieve consistent results.

Poor communication skills: A manager who is unable to effectively communicate with his players, staff, or fans may struggle to build a positive team culture.

Inability to handle player interactions: A manager who is unable to manage the personalities and egos of his players may struggle to maintain team morale and cohesion.

Lack of attention to detail: A manager who is unable to pay attention to the small details of the game, such as set pieces or individual player instructions, may struggle to gain an edge over the opposition.

Poor man-management skills: A manager who is unable to motivate his players or build a positive team culture may struggle to get the best out of his squad.

Inability to handle pressure: A manager who is unable to handle the pressure of high expectations or a poor run of form may struggle to maintain his composure and make effective decisions.

Lack of a clear vision or strategy: A manager who is unable to articulate a clear vision or strategy for his team may struggle to build a cohesive and successful squad.

Inability to reverse poor form: A manager who is unable to reverse a run of poor form may struggle to motivate his players and get them back on track.

Lack of accountability: A manager who is unwilling to take responsibility for his team's poor performance may struggle to gain the respect and trust of his players and fans.

Poor recruitment: A manager who consistently signs players who do not fit the team's style of play or who are not of sufficient quality may struggle to build a competitive squad.

Inability to develop young players: A manager who is unable to develop young players and give them opportunities to play may struggle to build a sustainable team for the future.

Lack of tactical flexibility: A manager who is unable to adjust his tactics to suit different opponents or situations may struggle to achieve consistent results and may be predictable to the opposition.

It is important to note that these signs are not definitive and may not apply to all managers. Additionally, some of these signs may be more indicative of a manager who is inexperienced or still learning the ropes, rather than one who is inherently ineffective.

In Warne's words, "If we don't get promoted, changes are needed"

The question in this scenario would be whether Clowes sticks with a manager who has "failed" for 2 seasons in a row and only make changes to the playing staff, or also change the management team

Warnes not actually had a transfer budget to buy players in. He's been allowed only to offer high salaries so has missed out on the best players he might have has a chance to sign for the club if a transfer budget could have been used.

why does he deserve more time? how has he earned that?

just because we've chopped and changed in the past doesn't mean we have to now stick with a manager because of it. What if he's just simply the wrong one for the job? But no no, we have to stick with him because we've sacked managers in the past😆

Isn't the real reason that pw is unlikely to be dismissed from the club more connected to the fact that he's on a 4 year contract where there could potentially be a large payout if he leaves from an owner who's already spent a fortune saving the club from bankruptcy.

On top of that the owner seems content to keep the club stable.

  9. I doubt Clowes will pay off Warne to leave Derby before his contract expires in 2026. While Clowes did save the club from bankruptcy by investing millions, I doubt he would want to pay off Warne.

Warne's attempts to strengthen the team during the summer have proven unsuccessful, with some of the players he brought in receiving high salaries but without any transfer fees and being at the end of their careers.

It's difficult to improve the club without investing in the players, and it's unreasonable to expect the club to be promoted soon without doing so.

If Warne is paid off, Clowes will have to pay another manager who will likely require a long-term contract and transfer funds.

Relying solely on high salaries to attract players is unlikely to result in promotion for the club. Improving the team's performance is crucial to have any chance of promotion or reaching the playoffs this season after a demoralizing loss to Cambridge.

It's unclear if the current team is capable of doing better.

We've tried that one. They're weren't interested at the minute, even to facilitate Cashins loan there.

Next summer the efl remove all transfer restrictions. We could offer a loan deal with an agreement to buy in the summer.

Are Port Vale really performing that much better than us? They had a notable win away at Oxford but were also mauled at Barnsley and lost at home to Burton.

Cambridge’s away form is won one (Fleetwood) and lost three so this is definitely a game we should be winning (draw it is then 🙁) but it’s not a must win game.

Port vale are 4th place in the table, I'd settle foe that at thus time

  12. With us placed just above Cambridge, mid table in the league, the upcoming game between the two teams promises to be quite interesting, especially given that Cambridge recently drew with Port Vale, a team that has been performing better than us this season.

Only time will tell if Warne can pick up 3 points from the must win games against mid table talent, when this team should be in the top 6 places right now.

It's not binary though, is it? The entire premise overlooks a bracket into which I'd wager the largest sector of fans fall. The pro and out camps on here just seem the most prevalent because they make the most noise.

My hunch is that a largest number of fans are simply undecided and want to see how Warne progresses with this set of players; others may be concerned that if we are not successful this season, compensation for the remainder of Warne's 4 year contract may not even be viable; doubtless others just think that sacking managers without affording them the chance to build their own team is braindead and what got us here in this mess in the first place; there's probably even some who wonder how we'd look with a squad less injury stricken. Let's be clear about this; none of those views necessarily constitute them being pro-Warne, nor do any render them happy clappers.

Bit of a tangent maybe, but let's be honest here; it's dead easy to say drop the gaffer, pay the compo and find us someone better when it's not you that's footing the bill. It's not nearly so easy when you've already spaffed £52 million saving the club in the first place.

The only way to see a return on the large sum of money that was splashed out on saving the club is to spend money and promote the club not just from league one but also from the championship.

If derby are in the Premier league our owner could find a buyer to get back some of the funds he invested in the club.

A team thats weak, needs to strengthen. We are losing against teams i think we should have beaten, but our teams to weak. Its not just tactics, the same tactics promoted rotherham 3 times.

For that you need a transfer budget.

On current form I wouldn't want the team promoted. If league one teams can defeat them, what would championship teams do.

Spending money on salaries to bring in loan players who just want to get back to their respective clubs or older players who almost zero resale value isn't going to do it.

I'm not entirely against pw as he promoted Rotherham on 3 occasions. Yet he also failed to keep them up twice.
