It’s nice to see an idea of a book actually come to fruition. Well done, well worth the money.

The publisher part actually came pretty much last to be honest. I had the idea late 2017 and from then on, spent two or so years just compiling interviews with anyone who I thought would have a story worth telling about the club that would add something to the narrative we all know already. So even deep into the writing of the book, I was getting responses from people like Harry Wilson and Craig Burley about being part of it. So from the original idea to the final sign off, it was around about 30 months or so in total.
In terms of the actual publisher side of things, I always felt there might be just about enough interest there because there had been nothing like it on the club before, and if it came down to it I would have looked into self publishing, but in January I pitched it to three different publishers and two of them, including Pitch Publishing (who were the ones I had in mind all the way along really) picked up on it. So then I spent the next six or seven months just finalising it, working with their team of designers and proofreaders to work out how the final book would look. But it actually worked really well because the proofreader Gareth is a former media man at the club and one of the designers is also a Derby fan as well, so there was involvement all the way along.
Was a bit odd because I'd never worked on a book before so the actual pitching process and the world of publishing was alien to me, purely because I just did this as a bit of 'fun' in my spare time! I think I put a thread on here maybe April last year sort of time mentioning it, but even then I wasn't fully convinced it would actually ever come to life.

Happy Sunday, chaps. Just wanted to bug you again and say the book is still somehow flirting in the top 10 of the Amazon football charts, which is absolute insanity. How reliable the charts are I'm not sure on as they have Roald Dahl in the same chart, but I'll take it. If you hate Jeff Bezos with a passion, it's available everywhere else though, pretty much.
It seems to be doing well rating wise, aside from what I can only assume was a Red Dog who reviewed it as 'Not a very good read from a small club in Nottingham.' I've spent the weekend trying to decipher what on earth it's meant to mean, but the chap (who titled his review 'Nottingham County) is not getting to me. I promise. I definitely haven't checked all of his reviews. Nope, not me.
Hope you're enjoying it ? Any questions just drop me a DM. Not sure I'm quite ready for a follow up on the next 20 years of Champions League glory and world stars, but we'll see.

Came in the post today (I was that excited)
tempted to read it before giving it as a Christmas gift.

This is where stats like xG are actually useful and aren't absolute rubbish like people say. He underperformed massively on xG last season but it showed he was getting into the positions and having goal scoring chances which he either missed or were saved. Now, he's regressing towards the mean and getting goals he did deserve in the first place.

It's not bad, I think if you have Sky Q it's even in HD? Better than when it started, one camera angle there's commo and (I think) even replays. We watched the Huddersfield game via it and it seemed fairly good coverage, but don't remember it being anything awful/special.

Yes, watched it last month.
Quite freaky, especially towards the end.

Can’t believe some think they will stay up, all over a flukey start to the season

Proof that the Premier League's a tinpot league and its top strikers wouldn't hack it in the Championship

Halfway through it and I don’t really read books. But it’s really well put together, lots of player thoughts laced through the text which really give you a seamless view inside our club through the recent past years. I look forward to my nighty reads, thank you @HuddersRam

Baalocks, that would have paid out this weekend. Not sure what the odds were but it usually paid out anything from £40-£70 dependent the odds at the time.

Glad you're enjoying it! That promotion season was probably my favourite to work on. Either that or in a very strange way, the 11 point one.
And that's not a bad idea with the threads. Was a bit conscious about spamming the forum but might be worth a bash, yeah!

ariotofmyown reacted to G STAR RAM in The Saturday Acca thread
I find accas on the whole to be a complete waste of money.
I used to have a £25 fourfold every week and was probably getting one win a season ?
I now do a £50 double every week instead and find I win on a much more regular basis and have shown profit for 3 seasons running.
I only ever place a bet on teams @ evens or above.
Today I have gone on Crystal Palace @ 15/8 and Millwall @ 21/20. £50 returns £295.
Did not know Rowett had Covid and so would be missing from todays match. Think if I had known I would have gone on Huddersfield at @ 19/10 rather than Millwall.

Thanks David, glad it went down well and provided a few smiles over a time where they've been pretty hard to come by! And @Heisenberg& @DJAY, good to hear it did the job! I'm 25 as well so at times it was a whole lot of research but then for others it was just through my extensive and ultimately sad knowledge of the club.
Heard from the publishers that it's in for a second edition reprint as it's gone down so well, so a massive thanks to everyone who has taken a read. I loved working on it. In terms of that audiobook from Billy, we might be waiting a while sadly

ariotofmyown reacted to Heisenberg in Pride: The Inside Story of Derby County
Yep I agree, I'm 25 and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I only really remember supporting the Rams when Burley came onto the scene so it was an interesting to learn more about what actually went on with the 3 amigos/the follow on when Gadsby and his consortium cleared the clubs debts, as well as everything that came before that in the earlier years with Jim Smith and Gregory.
I couldn't recommended it highly enough to any Rams fans who haven't purchased yet!

I'll wait until the audiobook, read by Billy Davies, comes out.

Just a quick bump on this as it deserves it, maybe it’s the era that I grew up with, but this is hands down the best Derby County book I’ve read, so many little quotes that put a smile on your face, stories from times where the internet wasn’t a thing.
Whack it on the Xmas list for anyone that’s 35+, honestly you won’t be disappointed. ?

It gets slower..... much slower.
It oozes quality and attention to detail but by series 3 or 4 (I think) the snail-like pace finally got the better of me. Really wanted to love it but for me it was a bit style over substance. Some great actors and a really good era but I much prefer Peaky Blinders as a comparison of a interesting, fast moving period piece.

one of the best programmes ever IMO. Stick with it. Some of it is factual.

I'm halfway through the 2nd series. Just keep getting better. Love the moment when something else clicks for either yourself or the character.
