And nobody has said vaccination is 100% safe. But the risks are very low.
The biggest risk is anaphylaxis - which is why there's a 15 minute wait after your jab. Most reactions will have occurred within that time, and you'll get quick treatment and care if you start reacting badly to the injection.
There is a small risk of blood clots, but it's small enough risk that, even for the younger generation, you will be far more at risk of health issues from Covid than you will be at risk of suffering clots related to the vaccine.
This thread is actually pretty funny in my opinion, as it's a small but vocal group railing against health measures that have been brought in to minimise the effect of a global virus. It's pretty much the standard response of almost every country in the world (with some variation in capability around enforcement of strict controls, about adherence to mask wearing and to reactiveness to rolling out vaccinations). And we're still waiting to understand who benefits from all this, why the world has almost universally reacted with the same measures (barring one or two, who mostly have had horrific experiences by not doing enough).

Isnt there something of a difference between closing borders as a precaution when you are in the early stages with no immunisation, knowledge of virulence, testing etc
.. And now, when we are able to tailor the action we might want to take down at the individual level?
Just seems about 15 months late, and is such a blunt instrument it's been completely overtaken by events.

That clip was from 2011.
In 2016 she claimed she was not in favour of capital punishment but there is no record of any explanation for the change of view.
Of course she's also the progeny of Indian born parents who emigrated from Uganda to the UK to run a corner shop. Precisely the sort of people that the country now does not need and would be denied entry, according to priti patels new rules.
The woman is beyond scorn. Third rate thick as mince is about as close as I can do.

There's a big difference between
a) waking up to nonsense (of which there is plenty), and
b) getting frustrated that things have gone on as long as they have, looking to lash out but in concentrating where your fists are aiming forgetting to check your footing and subsequently falling down a rabbit-hole of counter-nonsense, having your emotions played on by any old ******** 'opinion-dressed-as-news' article that seeks to stoke the fires of discontent, and partaking in social media echo-chambers where you get dragged deeper and deeper into giving credence to conspiracy theories.
Obviously I'm not seeking to tar everyone who's unhappy (who's happy, exactly?) with the b) brush because that would be a gross generalisation, and most people (I assume, I hope) are smarter than that, but there are plenty of people who've well and truly been suckered by the very same brand of ******** they'll tell everyone else is the 'truth' they've closed their eyes to.

Come on buddy, if we're going to have to endure another round of your 'global Covid conspiracy' theories, whereby every country systematically brings it's own economy to it knees, crashes stock markets and reduces both the public and private sectors to rubble, would you mind at least giving us less enlightened folk the benefit of a credible reason for this cunning masterplan? Something other than some vague, 'follow the money' schtick? Is Jeff Bezos actually Megamind? Will there be a Scooby Doo type reveal...
Also, please don't try to assign upper strata levels of intelligence to the likes of Johnson, Gove, Patel, Hancock and the other ministers purportedly managing the Covid crisis. They are rank second-raters. I'm sorry, but if your whole premise is based on ministers like the terminally stupid Priti Patel being some sort of criminal and conspiratorial masterminds, I'm calling ********. The reason these people appear not to have a clue is precisely because they don't. At best they do their master's bidding.
By way of an example, here's a gentle reminder as to the depth of our current Home Secretary's critical thinking capabilities.

I'm not disagreeing with the professor at all - I'm stating that the next 'crisis' - whether that's a new variant, a completely new virus or space aliens (or anything) will be responded to in exactly the same way with exactly the same approach and with exactly the same results. Too little, too ineffective, too late, too bad.

Could try some alcohol free beer like Punk AF. Tastes pretty much the same and you don't realise you aren't drinking.

My tweet was not 100% truthful. I was actually brunching with @Angry Ram at the time, but by the time my poll had been completed, he had already left. (Stormed out actually because they had sold out of artisan mushy peas.)
Lee's joke has not aged well though. He needs to change the "gastro pub in North London tweet" to a letter written in a traditional town centre pub in the Chilterns!
Or perhaps "graffiti daubed on a wall in a strongly unionist part of Belfast".

Should be out in Stalis right now watching the football with a frosted beer glass full of pils.
I could have been out in Albufeira right now watching the football with a cold beer.
instead, on the sofa with a can of coke zero and a bag of pork scratchings.
Damn you Grant Shapps you Bamford.

Just before Christmas my Mother-in-law was rushed into hospital. On admission she was tested and didn't have Covid - a week later she was discharged - with Covid. It may be a wild guess, but I reckon she probably caught it from a healthcare worker....not great for a 91 year-old with dementia, a pacemaker and other health issues. Luckily (probably because she's so stubborn) she seems to have made a full recovery, but the good old NHS could well have killed her. I have absolutely no issue with telling anyone in the health care industry that may come into contact with the general public that they MUST be vacccinated......the only problem is that it's way too late to bring in these sort of rules.

I am not demanding people get vaccinated. I am saying people who want to work in the care sector must have jabs. If they dont want them, thats fine just work doing something else. Its pretty black and white for me. Like my football.

Agree, there is already a requirement of employers to ensure their staff have the Flu jab working in that sector, its no different really.

I don’t see it as “forgetting our debt”.
We can be incredibly grateful for them exposing themselves to a far greater risk than the rest of us more fortunate ones but that shouldn’t exempt anyone from having to take precautions to help protect the vulnerable people they have to come into contact.

What I'm saying is, if anything objectionable is posted, the report button is the fastest way to sort it.
It's fine to think the politics should be removed. It's fine to report it.
It's less fine to complain but not help the mods by reporting content you feel is not in line with the rules.

Because no one actually wants to censor discussion. I'd bet that the people whinging about this would rather that no topics were out of bounds on this forum. The point is only being raised to highlight the hypocrisy of the situation. I can absolutely guarantee that if the right leaning members started to wander into more political posts your mod inbox would fill up very, very quickly.
