sage reacted to Crewton in D-Day
It's sobering to think that if Hitler's closest advisers had had the courage to wake him earlier, the Panzer divisions that were held in reserve might have reached the front before the Allies had been able to gain a firm foothold inland. The struggle that the British and Canadians had to break out into the interior after those Panzers had finally arrived showed what their impact might have been if they'd been called forward sooner. The Allies deception campaign worked a treat too in forcing Hitler to keep more resources in reserve than if he'd known exactly where the invasion was going to be.
So many "sliding doors" moments on the way to victory it's impossible to understate what we owe to those who served.

I suspect the overwhelming majority (if not all) posters on this forum are anti war. However, to rely on reason prevailing would only be feasible if the world was entirely made up of reasonable people which, of course, it isn’t.

Early morning from our flat in Belper. Day 10 heading into the Silk Mill and found the address where my grandfather lived in Belper so we’ll go stalking the neighbourhood. Highlights this week, walking from Bakewell to Chatsworth, cycling the Monsal Trail, going to the Arboretum where there was a memorial towards the children displaced from home ( my father and uncle sent to Oz) and a great Sunday with relatives at the Nadee and the Dragon. Sadly after 5 weeks we start winding down before heading home next Monday.
This morning’s brekkie.

Why couldn't people simply wait until the game was over? We effectively forced the ref to end the game 2 minutes early and were lucky we got away with that and it was declared full time.
Yes I know that might seem a joyless, boring attitude, but I'd rather not have more points deductions or see players get hurt.

Pillows & Mattresses. At least half of the time.
When you want them to be supportive, comfortable and an aid to drifting off to sleep they refuse to cooperate, becoming over-hard, uncomfortable too warm.etc, you're tossing and turning, readjusting, ending up with a crick in the neck, pins and needles in various places.
...but when you wake up in the morning, when you've got s*** to do and really you need to get out of bed asap, they couldn't be more comfortable. The last thing you want to do is move or heaven forbid actually get up.

Was he ever a more special talent than Tom Huddlestone, Will Hughes or Giles Barnes? I don't think so personally.

sage reacted to BaaLocks in Worst Refereeing decision for and against Derby.
I've gone back to the OP on this one - the exam question also calls out decisions for us but, being Derby and general football fans in general, it seems we've rather focused on the empty half of the glass. So, to reinvigorate the thread a couple that we had in our favour.
- The Dwight Gayle penalty against Reading, pretty much ensured our season stayed on track and if it hadn't been given I'd argue we'd all be staring another season in League One in the face.
- The 'second' goal by Real Madrid at the BBG, should never have been given offside, as should our second penalty. We blew it from there but we got given that advantage.
- Wildsmith should have been sent off against Oxford, after that we're never coming back to win it

sage reacted to Bris Vegas in Punching above our weight. What do you think would elevate us above mid table next season?
I like being here. I’m a big Derby fan. I pay £20 to RamsTV every month. I wouldn’t be here otherwise.
Just because I don’t rate Warne, or I don’t think Derby are a big club, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be here.
I enjoy the forum, and I enjoy reading people’s opinions despite what may appear.
I’m not too fond on the personal jibes, ganging up and to some extent bullying tactics though. The forum doesn’t need all that.

First morning in Belper, doing a recon for pubs and bars. Don’t think we can get to all of them in 2 weeks 😳. What a lovely park at the mill.

I don't believe in the afterlife. I've never believed that anyone is literally looking down on us.
However, sometimes something so pure as Daniel's love of Derby County can inspire a group of grumpy, cynical buggers by example.
I hope we can take that into next season.
Be more B4

I was at Belper Cinema tonight and the lady working there mentioned she used to work at Derbion Cinema.
I said you must know Daniel then. She smiled for half a second, remembered he had passed, then shed a tear. Within seconds she was smiling again but still with moist eyes.
She told us how positive, optimistic and lovely he was and how great he was at his job. He was her favourite workmate.
At this point I may have had some grit in my eye.
I think Daniel has made us all tearful as we smile at his memory and I dare say many of us will look to the sky at 2.30 tomorrow, with that same bit of grit in our eye.
I've never been so confident before a match in my life, as the very briefest thought of us not doing this for B4, hasn't once crossed my mind.

Of course he’s more productive than bird as you mention, he plays a lot further forward. He obviously has ability but do you agree he struggles to get involved in games at times?
the other issue I think is that when has a poor game is almost impossible to leave on as is like playing with ten.
i like him as a player, he gets shots off and has quality on the ball. But he’s not quick, not particularly strong either. Maybe this wasn’t highlighted as much in academy football but feel there is a large enough body of work from mens football to use that as the sample now.

I was interested to hear Kieran Maguire on his Price of Football podcast that came out yesterday talk about David Clowes paying off £8.8M in full to all the unsecured football creditors when he bought the club, a significant portion of which was related to the Krystian Bielik deal. If he hadn't, then Derby would have had a further penalty of minus 15 points on exiting administration.
Maguire mentions he knows of at least one other interested party to buy the club who was willing to put in a lower bid, and was also willing for Derby take the 15 point penalty as they weren't bothered about paying back these creditors.
Again, fair play to David Clowes for doing the decent but expensive thing with the football creditors. We would have been mid table last season with a 15 point deduction, but it also would surely had a longer term impact to the feel around the club that would have made our promotion this season much less likely to have occurred.
