Which I think he is more likely to do if our own fans would just stfu moaning about him and move on.

    Hi
Bournemouth supporter here and congratulations on the win yesterday. Should have been a draw but that's not what I came on here for.
In 2008-09 we were on zero points after 19 games - having started on -17. We were also under a transfer embargo, were struggling to pay players and had a  team with several on-league and out-of-contract recruits. For us the rest is History as Eddie Howe stepped up from youth team coach on 1st  January, lost his first 2 games but we stayed up on 46 points.
OK! OK! I know it was League 2, and you don't want a Bournemouth history lesson. My point simply is - it can be done. Your home support may just help -it was pretty impressive yesterday.
    Hope you manage it.
    Good luck.

It's free investment under P&S. Spend £5m on the academy, sell 1 player for 1p and the club is in a better P&S position.
Spend £5m on a player and the club is in a £5m worse P&S position.

From a financial poijt of view, it was right for Birmingham tobmake that decision - they only managed to run at breakeven over the past 20 years thanks to the sale of Bellingham, and the players they currently have hold little value.
Meanwhile, over the past 10 years Derby have also broken even in terms of academy graduates sold and academy investment. However, Derby have a lot of players in the first team with significant value with a production line of Championship quality players (or better) in full motion.

50% of the starting 10 outfield players today from the academy.

Somebody said earlier this week that we should scrap the academy - I’m not so sure.

My mates lad plays in the academy and said to me recently how well all the staff have handled the situation and it’s as if nothing has happened since we went into administration. That only comes from great leadership.

This may be the worst exaggeration Ive seen on this forum ever.
A mortgage is a gamble that you can afford to take on a debt and repay it from your income. If your income stops with no support from the Government you may struggle to service the loan and you may lose your home. There are warnings to that effect when people take out mortgages , yet still they do it and still some people lose their homes. If they were self employed there may be HMRC debts owing as well.  Were they immoral or just unlucky? Or unwise maybe, at worst? The days when debtors were sent to jail have long gone you know.
In the Rams case, Morris believed that the  income from Derby's loyal fan base was secure, and built his financial plans on that. Call that  a gamble if you like but i would say Derby's ticket income is  probably normally more secure than any salaried income, so less of a gamble to rely on that to cover our costs than to rely on your salary to pay a mortgage.

Yet what happened with the pandemic was unprecedented in history. Revenue of £20 million lost in an 18 month period. And no support from the Governnment despite it being the Government that ordered the closure of stadia. And who is our biggest creditor? A Government agency, HMRC! And who apart from the players and their agents was the biggest beneficary of Morris high spending years? HMRC.

I think if Morris can afford to pay the debts, he should from a moral point of view. Otherwise, HMRC as a Government agency is in no position to play the morality card, and in any case it is clear Derby cannot afford to pay without external help.

As we don't know whether he can or cannot afford to pay the debts, (and never will know as the force majeure appeal was never heard) I am not willing to make any personal attacks on his morality, or signify my "contempt" for him. Especially as according to Gboro "personal attacks" are against forum rules.  In my book calling people immoral when you do not know the facts to support such a claim is a personal attack.

Bear in mind Mel still owns the stadium and in consequence, whether we like it or not, we're still dependent on his goodwill to complete the successful transition to new ownership. If he's looking for an excuse to say duck it, this is exactly the kind of thing that could give him it....

Just saying. If on the sliding doors theme, Frank Lampard has selected a more adventurous team at Wembley we might have still been singing “He’s One of Our Own”.
MM gambled and we all lost.
If the double 6 had landed he would have been lauded but it didn’t.
He is no doubt as devastated as us and maybe he should have sold every last asset to keep us afloat, but I suspect most on here would not have done in similar situation.
Bottom line he screwed up massively but probably with good intentions at the time.

Actually I don't think EFL are entitled to insist on straight line amortisation. There is nothing in their rules that allows then to do that.
But really i wouldnt give a figgy which method the EFL insisted on. If they had insisted on straight line in 2016 then fair enough. But then letting us adopt something else and then charging us four years later for using a different one, and then penalising us again for overspending as a result, well that is just ridiculous in my view.

It’s been an interesting week.  Our club has had a few sliding doors moments in the past (Sir Brian leaving, Charlie George’s shoulder, Zamora, etc) but looking back how important were the injuries to John Eustace and Chris Martin in 2014/15?  Without those we would arguably have achieved automatic promotion, Mel would have bought a PL team, no FFP issues even if we’d have come down.
Even Thorne’s injury against Ipswich on the last day of the following season.  Again, without that the big spending may have paid off.
Instead we’re staring at League 1 - which could turn out to be a good thing in the long run although it might not feel like it now.
Life’s all about fine margins.  In years to come we’ll have sliding doors moments that go in our favour.
