Yes, you mention Waghorn and the fact that he is still a DCFC player, so obviously considered a better option than Martin, seems totally wrong.

It is a shame, as a result of spaffing money up the wall on some lousy players in the past 5 or 6 seasons, that we are now in a position where we couldn't offer a little bit more to a player who could still do a very decent job for the club.

Seeing Chris Martin leave and now join Bristol City, I feel like a part of my heart has been ripped out. I’d say it’s an end of an era. Russell, Bryson, Keogh and now Martin gone. What a shame. That 2013/2014 team was an absolute joy to watch.

Guarantee we will be casting envious “if only...” glances at his performance this season.

Yep,just another example of our ineptness on the transfer and player front.
I'm sure Bristol City will be getting a lot more out of this deal in more ways than one.
Meanwhile we are left empty handed.
    Crazy.

The orange was the le Coq, followed by Patrick, the away version of this was the blue and white stripes and the light blue and navy blue stripes, they also wore red that season.

As part of my collection and the rams heritage group that we have formed, myself and Jason Shardlow aka est1884 or boyfromtheterrace have with the help of toffs recreated the first Derby County shirts you have a badge, we had that embroidered by a third party and toffs applied it for us to the Bespoke shirts that they had made for us, it has really brought this period back to life and will be at future rams heritage displays so look out for events.

Bloody hell, couple of tough looking buggers there. I reckon the wingers are back row third from the right and front row first on the left. Defenders one either side of the goalie and front row second left. Centre forward middle front row. ?
Love them striped shirts an’ all.

Since his sacking he’s turned up on the pitch about as often as the rest of the squad, so it’s probably justified.

Yes absolutely, plenty in the same age group as the players involved in 'boozegate' are out on the lash every weekend causing mayhem. For many, as long as they turn up to work on Monday and haven't been involved in anything that would alert their employer, it's carry on as you were. Not sure why the booze culture is the way it is in the UK? As you say it's a growing problem, and needs addressing. Has to be through education and awareness.

Well Eranio certainly makes a valid point. I think a lot of younger players these days are pretty clean living in fairness. The pendulum is swinging from the drinking culture of yesteryear to the typical model of our European neighbours. I think it had to because as you've pointed out, fitness is absolutely key these days. Gone is the era where a team of drinkers can win the the title without losing a game.
I do think however, it's not just a football problem though, as a lot of English lads and lasses do binge drink. You've only got to look at how the mindless minority behave abroad or check the city centres on a weekend. It's a growing problem too. It's not something we associate too much with other countries and I'm not sure why so many folk can't have a decent drink but still behave.

I wasn't actually aiming blame at anyone, just an observation really. Yes they are adults, but that's not been reflected in their behaviour, which unfortunately has inflicted damage to the club.
I seem to recall an interview that Eranio did. He was very surprised at the way things are (were) in English football, compared to Italian football where the players training and dietary regimes were much stricter. Very much reflected in the skill and athleticism of many Italian players.

I wouldn't accept a pay drop though either. I'd accept the same punishments as the drink drivers and I would consider myself being reasonable.
Like I said, I get that he can't provide a service anymore and I get that the club are possibly within their rights to do what they have done.
I dunno, I just have my principals and loyalty and I'm a proud person. I do what I thinks right whether it's legal or not, fair or not. I don't hold people to a higher standard than others. I don't think I'm better than anyone and I don't think anyone is better than me. For Keogh's service and position I'd have some leniency and I wouldn't dare utter words about representing the club and still let Lawrence and Bennett run around. I'd choke on my words.
If I was Keogh I'd take the wage drop if I saw it as a punishment just under Lawrence and Bennett. I'd not really accept this fantasy role that I'm their father figure and somehow supposed to look after them in a pub. They drove the car!! I've been punished for getting in it because my leg is ruined.
Derby's morals are a bit out of line with mine.
I thought they handled Lawrence and Bennett quite well. But this knocks the whole thing out of perspective

When I first heard about the incident my initial reaction was relief that nobody was killed and hopefully the lads would take their punishment and we could draw a line under it and move on.  However since Keogh has been sacked for gross misconduct it doesn't sit well with me that the ones found guilty of drink driving are still playing for Derby. As far as I'm concerned the sooner they are sold and move on the better. Financially I understand the reasons but morally for me it is unfair and very wrong. I understand some people will disagree and that is fine as I respect that other people will have differing opinions.

Regardless of everything else, this day is very sad if for nothing other than the finality of it.
I’m 25, had a season ticket since I was 6, so I’ve seen him play more than any other Derby player. I’ve never known a player be so consistent in their availability. For many my age - he is Derby County. His distinctive face, mannerisms and playing style defined an era. Maybe not a successful one, but certainly some excellent memories and some fantastic football.
That’s what we should’ve been talking about with Richard Keogh. He should have retired a happy man, with a full testimonial in front of the kids. He should be sat down with an ancient Colin Gibson on Rams TV meets in 15 years’ time. We should’ve been debating in the pub with our mates what could’ve been with our rose-tinted spectacles...
All those games, all those memories, now pale into insignificance. This is what we will remember him for. Knowing the end, it’s tainted many of the memories when I look back now.
I love a good redemption story in sport. Today’s very unfortunate because we will never get one with Richard Keogh.

It's all a bit tragic, regarding the ending of a guys career. Without being involved in the conversation between the club and Keogh, the tone of it etc. it's difficult to even speculate. It's possible that Keogh has had some potentially bad advice (agent, maybe ?) and made a decision without thinking it through, discussing with others.
Really do agree with many posters, that for all concerned, the other culprits Bennett and Lawrence should be offloaded as soon as possible. Can we then perhaps move on ??

We don't know what's in the contract small print. There may well be a list of reasons for gross misconduct and sacking and the club can probably use its own discretion if a rule has been breached.
Hard luck on Keogh when the other two remain employed but if a rule has been breached then it's up to the club which offenders they sack and which they do not. Harsh but not illegal
I just worry about what effect this will have on the squad, it may go either way. Hopefully it will galvanise the remaining players but I wouldn't hold my breath

I personally think its the right decision to sack him but I would like to see Lawrence and Bennett sacked two as they are both crap players and more importantly are more guilty than Keogh in the whole ordeal.  It seems unjust for the least guilty person to get the worst punishment duet to his age and the injury he got, not the biggest fan of Keogh but a 35 year old Keogh would still offer a lot more than a Bennett ever could as long as he could still move properly after his injury.
