Yeah, that’s the way I’m viewing it at the moment as well. He’s probably the one “in charge” as chairman, in terms of making decisions, but he may well not be the main shareholder. The money seems more likely to me to come from elsewhere, and whoever the investors are must trust Alonso to run the football club and get them a return on their money.

Anything at this point is speculation, so here's my speculation: The money is "his" in terms of control/responsibility but not entirly "his" in terms of who's funding it is (allowing 2 slightly different takes on the situation). The extent to which it is really his to control we'll probably find out when things start to go wrong!

Well, this is the concerning thing for me. If he is being economical with the truth about there being a consortium behind him, the kind way of viewing that is that he is making himself accountable for what happens next, protecting the anonymity of any other investors. The cynic in me worries it’s ego.

This whole consortium or sole owner thing is very confusing. In interviews with the English media, Alonso has seemed to indicate he’s on his own, but that interview over in Spain seemed to suggest he does have backers behind him. All a bit contradictory. You’d have to assume the latter is true, given the links to the more wealthy Indonesian businessmen. But why not say that more openly? If anything, that will reassure fans as they can see evidence of funding for the club.

FWIW, I realise I’ve been very negative about Alonso, but that’s mainly because we’ve already had our fingers burned with Sheikh Khaled, and this all feels very familiar. Maybe that’s harsh on Erik, but I’m struggling to get excited when I can’t see the source of the investment. I’ll be a lot more comfortable if there are genuine Indonesian backers, as the names mentioned do appear to have some wealth. Alonso running the show may well work out well then, provided he listens to Calderon’s advice.

I’m certainly taking no delight in our situation, believe me, no true Derby fan isn’t hurt right now. I’m just being realistic that relegation is a real worry, and I’m struggling to see a way we survive. No issue with those who think I’m glass half empty, but I struggle with those claiming there’s no chance we will go down. That’s delusion imo.
So what if negativity is built into me, doesn’t make me any less of a fan than you. FWIW, I have no problem with Alonso having ambition, in fact I welcome it - I just don’t think any prospective new owner should be setting targets openly in the media given our current situation.

I’m merely expressing my current gut instinct on him, I’m more than aware what I think is meaningless. This takeover will happen, unless the EFL stop it.

Why mention it at all if it was so meaningless? Seems to me like he’s trying to brag about the approaches he’s made. I don’t trust his character one iota.

So it appears he exaggerated the talks with Cardiff. Wonder what else he could have exaggerated...the funds available? The links to Calderon? This is all starting to feel very Sheikh Khaled to me. Loads of talks with other clubs but nothing actually came of them, possibly because they didn’t see him as viable. But Mel is so desperate to sell us that it seems he’ll accept literally any offer thrown his way, even if others wouldn’t go near them with a barge pole...

I'm not convinced we have the baalocks but more importantly we don't have quality upfront! 
Apart from Kaz's burst of scoring which may well keep us in this division this lot are not even 3rd tier standard as an attacking force. It will surprise me if we win another game. Let's hope the bottom three are equally crap!

I’m more worried about the association with Matt Southall... he’s not a man who should be allowed with 100 miles of a professional football club.

The fake Sheikh blew any belief I had in any takeover ?
