Well, I am a Warne in man. Not because he’s a genius, not because I like 3 at the back and flogging aging wide players to play the full length of the pitch. Not because sometimes he seems inflexible.
I am Warne in because we have all been too impatient in recent times. Because he talks as straight as he is able to, without betraying confidences that he has to keep. That despite some bumps, he has engendered a team sprit. He wants to win, never knowingly plays for a draw, likes using width of the pitch. Has probably done as well as anyone attainable for us could have done. The injuries we have had have been very unlucky. …. And biggest of all he deserves a chance over the length of his contract without constantly having to look over his shoulder in case he’s going to get tripped by his own fans.
Question him ? Yes. Put him on the spot Yes ! Undermine him in the considered way that some seem to revel in no.
The football is ok with some ups and downs. Still lots to do, isn’t perfect but I am fed up with manager merry go round. Unless we look threatened by relegation he gets my full support at least to the end of the season and maybe beyond.

There is. They were still in the game and it would have been a lot to ask him to play 30 mins as a lone striker. If it had been 2 up front, he could have come on earlier with someone alongside him. The penalty probably cost him another 10 mins on the pitch.

This is what happens at nearby away games when we have a big capacity. Encourages all the scum bags who aren’t proper fans to go there looking for a fight.
Always find it’s a much different experience at the smaller grounds. None of those nobheads travelled to Carlisle for instance, and the atmosphere was much better. Lots of moaning about the s*** performance of course, but no coked up idiots shouting abuse.

Thanks for clarifying the detail……doesn’t depart from the fact that you can have a brand of football that is good - and still lose games - and end up failing in your objective to win games and secure promotion - even if the matches were entertaining - which was the post I was replying to.

Just having a look at your analysis further, there seems some similarities between then and now:
    1. Recruitment: 14/15 was the season before MM throws money at it - suggests SMac had his hands tied when it came to recruiting a well balanced squad. Roll on 23/24… I think we know this is true for PW.
    2. 3x Injuries in one position in the team:  13/14 …. (CDM - Eustace, Mascarell, Thorne). ……. See 23/24 RB/RWB issues…Ward / Rooney /Wilson all injured for a large proportion of our first 11 games.
    3. Attacking options: OK so not at Centre Forward like the Martin and Bent issue specifically …….but Bird (if you play him in the more advanced role), Embleton, Sibley, Barkhuizen, John Jules (brought in to play behind the 9) all injured/unavailable consistently.
So an inability to put out a consistently balanced team for 11 (12) games.
Was SMac just damn unlucky because he had his hands tied on recruitment and was unlucky with injuries?  Or should he have signed players regardless of budget constraints, had the foresight to recruit 4 players for every position, trained the players differently so they didnt get injured and maybe have changed his style of play to suit the players at his disposal? Surely we had enough in our squad in the last 3 games of the season to get the extra point we needed to secure play offs given we were playing away at Huddersfield (16th), Millwall (Relegated) and at home Reading (bottom and relegated)?
I only make these points as it seems they are overlooked by some posters right now who don’t like the brand of football played by Warne and believe we have a right to be in the Top 2.
We’re 11 games in - and 35 to go and we’re about to hit our stride. My own view is that with the current coaching team we will be still in the promotion hunt after 45 games…..just like 14/15… here’s hoping that’s where the 14/15 comparator ends.
And yes it’s just my opinion…🐏

Dava75 reacted to sage in You might not realise it but Paul Warne's doing pretty well
The criticism has died down for various reasons.
We are playing better football in the last 2 games, so some of people's concerns are being assuaged.
We've won 2 of the last 3, as BC says, 3 points shuts people up.
Also, many who weren't happy are tired of the kick back, especially post Carlisle when we didn't play well but won and those commenting got the result thrown at them.
From my point of view, I'd like some more control in games, but Nyambe and the return of Bird and Barks have improved matters. It wasn't personal for most critics, it was based on what we saw.
As Maynard Keynes wrote, when the facts change, I change my mind.

I’m not sure I said we would …..but just to pedantic (hope you appreciate this Jimbo 😉) ….. you could certainly go winless in 6.

Go back to March 2014/15 season under Stevie Mac - arguably one of the best 18 months of entertainment we’ve had at Derby (since TBE at least) but no wins in 6. And only 2 out of 12 at the most important stage of the season. Perhaps that team lacked character and steel 🤷🏻‍♂️

We were entertained but ultimately it was not good enough to deliver the main objective - promotion!!

We’re unbeaten in 6 - which has to be good for confidence - and yes I too would have also liked to have seen more goals and more wins, However, there are mitigating circumstances, we are only just able to select from a full squad and even then are nursing some (Bird, Wilson, Barks) back to full fitness. One win puts us in the play off spots and on course for the main objective for the season - promotion.

Yet another thread about PW. Very tedious but I’ll reply anyway. 😀
I suspect he already has regular conversations with Warne. As for his patience, I suspect he has more than most of us on this forum and won’t be going into meltdown if we don’t go up this year or even end the season where we are now - 8th.

I cant speak for them I'm afraid.
Personally, I see last season as a team where he did not have his own players in. Think we should have made the play offs but lost out on the last day so not a major disaster.
This season, due to injuries, I don't think he's been able to put out his strongest line up. We're currently on a 6 match unbeaten run and will be in the play off positions and 7 points off top spot if we win our game in hand.
I see very little point in bringing in a new manager at this point.
Not really enjoying the football but think Warne will get us promoted this season.

Hope you noticed him win every subsequent header that came into the box? Maybe another confidence boost he needs
Not calling you out, he’s looked poor, probably because he’s rusty from the lack of games last year, but these little cameos at the end of the game are helping. If Curtis Davis had been coming on last season in similar circumstances, most fans would’ve said smart move.

With time, he may look a rock solid performer at this level and he’s starting to show his credentials in snippets; just need to be aware of his lack of pace.

Yes. the answer is zero times. The goal is 24' x 8', measured from the inside of the posts and crossbar. So, if the opposition hit the frame of the goal, we've 'been saved' by their inability to hit the target.

I was at Saturday's game and to my mind it was a decent performance just lacking an end product and I said this at the time....it was far better than we had been playing recently and was a building block for tonight's game.

Our bench tonight was stupidly strong for this level, Warne himself said its the best bench he has had ever as manager.
Hopefully we will have Ward & TJJ to add to it soon who could be the keys to improving our home form. Warne said that he signed TJJ for games like Sat where teams sit in against us as he can make the difference.
Back to tonight, I think most fans would have taken 4 points from Sat & tonight.

Just got home to Birmingham. The drive back was a nightmare, there were a couple of big delays on the M6. Worth every second of the journey though, what a game! Smith, Fornah and Nelson excellent and the subs made a difference. Loved it.

Warne has deffo improved our defence this season with the additions of Nelson and Nyambe, both looked excellent again tonight, Nelson is a man mountain of a man, and is looking a great partner for Cashin , also Nyambe looks solid ,is quick and reads the game so well, they say all good managers build from the back, and our defence is looking very good this season, best in the division for me.

Dava75 reacted to TuffLuff in Can anyone actually name a single improvement Warne has done since arriving?
He’s improved the spine of the side to why we had before
         Wildsmith
    Nelson       Cashin
    Smith        Fornah
             Bird
            Collins
You’d expect Hourihane to make his way in most likely for Smith at some point, Sibley and Thompson being around it too. Can’t see that Bradley won’t force his way in at some point yoo.
Rosenior didn’t get this right in midfield last season, Warne struggled last year too. By bringing Fornah and Nelson in he’s complimented what was there before, but it’s also more balanced.0
