Beating Exeter on Tuesday night will have absolutely no effect on me. Warne is not the future of Derby County. Clowes's idea is collapsing infront of our eyes. Since February we have played well at Peterborough and Blackpool. Thats it. Ive no clue what Warne is all about tactically. I see players playing like they are unhappy. This squad is good enough. Time to go for Warne.

Shape of the team v Blackpool and Notts County was good. Cheltenham not good. And it showed in performance. Why would Warne worry about Cheltenham's midfield?? What he said after has got worry even the Pro Warne fans!! Going further back...We havent played well at home since February. We have been poor and it reflects in the Atmosphere. I believe this squad is good enough for Top 2. We should be doing better. In performance and results....In my opinion.

We are doing ok away from home. I thought Tuesday night was the best ive seen us since February!! The movement off the ball and the passing was very good. Defensively pretty solid. At home its been nothing short of very basic and boring. Its not just a few games either. I reckon we havent played well at home since Morecambe!! We have to become a better side at home. The goals against Lincoln were 1st class. Thats what we need...movement,clever play, third man running..teams cant cope with that at this level. Our squad is capable of top 2. Look at the bench the other night. Unreal bench for League 1. And thats with Ward,Elder,Thompson and Jules still out!! Warne has to show more at home. The players are there. No excuses.

Not long got back and i wont look at comments till ive put mine. Blackpool was a blip in Warneball. Ive not much more to say. My heart sank when i saw the team. No play thru midfield...it was gonna be all wing play and cross. We were awful against a side that wouldnt finish top half in League 2!! Warne is lucky to still be in a job as you wouldnt need all the fingers on one hand to count the good performances in the last 6 to 7 months!!

Well Paul Warne's post-match interview opened a few eyes, and cause a few more to roll heavenwards, no doubt! The first surprise was that a Radio Derby interviewer aske some awkward questions - I didn't think that was allowed! Well done, that man! Also, that Paul Warne was worried that Cheltenham had "overloaded" the midfield, so he chose to avoid it - memories of Monty Python's "Run Away! Run Away" spring to mind. This is against the bottom team, in League 1 who have virtually no performance to speak of all season. They are supposed to be worried about us, not the other way round. So we decide to favour long balls into the channels, and loads of crosses into the box, against a team full of big, tall men. We did show some promise in the first 45, but chiefly when we played the ball on the deck. But overall it was a team packed with gorillas who played the football.
The second half started much, much better, largely because of young Mr Bird, who clearly doesn't listen to team talks, because he had no idea at all that were supposed to be by-passing the midfield! And suddenly the team was buzzing because the ball was being played where God designed football to be played. It's all there in Hezekiah chapter 4 verses 2 - 10, and chapter 6 verse 7. And so it went for about 10 minutes or so, until the Cheltenham boss decided to make 3 substitutions, further flooding, or "overloading" the midfield, and snuffing out Bird's influence. Were you watching, Paul Warne - they saw what had happened, and made some changes to counter what we had done. OR is it too much to ask for Warne to change it up again during the same match, let alone ju8st the once in the season so far? We actually did nothing much, until the substitutions later on. But they changed nothing, because we got Washington coming on to o what was already not working, and we got Hourihane, who played like Hourihane tends to.
The real issue, as I mentioned earlier, and in other threads, is that were are playing the Number 10 role with someone who isn't a Number 10, so we are weak in the key area of trying to unlock the defence, either with a great through ball, as Max Bird showed, or someone who can run at the defence and force them into an error, or break right through them and have a go at goal. Nuff said on that. As for Collin's chance in the dying moment - he had more room to the keeper's left, as he was expecting the camera shot into the top corner. Collins should have "Bladdered it" (how about that for a Graham Richards-ism?!) low to the keeper's right. Oh well.
We also heard from Warne that we didn't do enough in the first half, an admission he has made before now. Curiously I was of the opinion that the players were played to perform for the full 90 minute plus, not the 30, 40 or 45 they tend to dish up when the mood takes them. Unless they are disillusioned because they know what they are capable of, but are restricted by the pattern (I use that term loosely) that is being imposed on them.
I know some people were expecting a cricket score, and in many ways it should have been, but in reality a 1 - 0 or 2 - 0 would have been sufficient, because this lot were beatable. All it needed was for us to play to our strengths, with a proper number 10, and keep the ball on the deck. Oh well. Onwards and same old, same old.

The goals against Lincoln and last night proves this side has it in them at this level to play football!! Not the turgid get it wide and cross it!! This squad of players have not been performing. Ive said it time and time again. Look at our bench last night. I understand a couple of players are back from injury but that doesnt gloss over we have been underperforming massively. Top 2 should be the aim and dont let anybody tell you any different. Get that ball moving, get good movement and this side is top 2. Best games from Collins and Smith they have played in a Derby shirt.

Everybody has an opinion obviously but this squad should be playing better. We havent played well at home in ages....probably Morecambe last season. We have had injuries this season i know but that is only glossing over stuff. I was alarmed how Warne's subtitutions on Saturday actually made Cambridge a threat!! I also feel Warne will eventually go wing backs. Ward will be back soon so wheres he gonna play? Wilson? He will look to play Nyambe in a 3. I can see it now. This squad is good enough for Top 2. I have no doubts on that but they aint playing like a Top 2 side and thats down to Warne.

No we know little about DCs decision-making other than he had no qualms about removing an honourable man, with plenty of admirable character traits, who had stuck with the Club throughout the admin process, even turning down the Blackpool job (I know it was only Nixon that says he had an offer, but...).
We can imagine we know his reasoning in appointing Warne, but not much of his reasoning seems to be bearing fruit? He failed at Top 6 last season. His recruitment this season has been lacking. He seems mostly uninterested in our expensive Category 1 Academy. The football quality is questionable. But he has a long contract. So we'll see whether more decisions are made.
IMO Warne had a better squad last season, that doesn't mean he won't do better this season maybe. But there aren't many positives to keeping Warne - well there's a whole thread with I think one positive on it, his away form is better than Roseniors.

There have been one or two old player birthdays recently along with glory day clips of golden goals. Interesting in the build ups how the great players move to receive the ball or move when they’ve passed, that old mantra, make your self available. I’m here, put it there, anticipation.

I see a lot of zonal coaching, keeping shape, clichees like “transition” and “phase” … All well and good but we seem to be losing a lot of the basics and instincts of pass, move, anticipate. We don’t look for the player making a run, we don’t work enough in 2’s and 3’s with the ball or for say throw ins and overlaps. It’s this sort of basic attacking stuff that catches opponents flat footed while they are all trying to “keep their shape”
Nyambe yesterday did it at least 3 times, the difference was palpable. NML used to do lot when he first arrived but has gone off the boil. Thommo could do it too. Most of the players have it in their locker from their youth but I think it’s getting lost in the “tactical theorems” of the game at this level. Just Sunday morning musings

We have been like this since Wycombe away last season. I was hoping id seen shoots of a recovery last 2 games but i really didnt. For all the people who say we played well...Wildsmith made more saves than Cambridge's keeper. We have won 2 out the last 14 at home. Burton and Fleetwood. Both 1-0. Burton win was a penalty. Its a year in now and Warne's best players are still the ones Rosenoir brought in or had coached before he became manager. The substitutions today were an absolute joke. For a team sitting deep...what does Washington offer? For Sibley to come on and play wide tells u everything. Barkhuizen taken off??? Why??? I know hes been out a while but...Why???...Bored and see nothing but bland nothingless. Does Stevie Mac fancy Part 3??? That Rosenoir is doing ok too. One for the future that lad.
